I've watched dozens of interviews of this woman and this is by far the best one. She is funny, relaxed and incredibly sincere. I can tell she's really fond of the interviewer who is so charming. I can tell Donna is so happy by his questions as she becomes tactile which is rare for her.
Donna was more than a great singer, she was also an amazing human being - with a great sense of humor. I worked with her years ago and remained friends, and I miss her laugh, and so sad I will never hear her voice LIVE again. I love her very much, and this interview was warm and funny, and made me smile with great memories of her. Have you ever interviewed Nina Hagen? - another one of my favorites! All the best-- XO!
SWSimpson Love Nina Hagen & Love Donna Summer May I ask how you worked with Donna, or when.. sounds like it would have been a very memorable experience :)
Donna Summer was a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. She was an amazing vocalist who left her mark in music history. Thank you Donna for sharing your amazing talent with the world. You are still loved and missed.
Oh Donna! If only I could turn back time. I would bring you back,we all miss you so much. I saw you singing so close to me. Now you are singing among the angels, great voice, great woman and great everything. Donna Donna Donna! What more can I say? My life is surrounded for your songs. Thnx 4 all!
When Donna Summer started speaking in german, she gave me chills. and i don't even know what she was saying. Music artist/singer like Donner Summer, Dionne Warwick, Tiner Turner, Patti LaBelle, and a few other african american female singers toured a lot in other countries because they were more appreciated in other countries. don't get me wrong, us americans loves them too. Donner Summer is/was one of the best female singers of all time.
I don't know that her race anything to do wit it but she did live in Germany extensively and was married to a german. That's how she got her last name (Sommers) changing the spelling. That was 50 years ago. :)
Anon Ymous And her first husband wasn't German he was Austrian, he just lived in Germany. Her 2nd & last husband was Italian & lived in Brooklyn when she met him.
Hard to think that only three years later she was gone. God took her quite suddenly and hopefully in no pain. Her outstanding talent was clearly needed in heaven sooner. There will never be another vocal and musical talent like Donna again. The Queen. RIP.
Thanks for this clip! She clears up the Falling Off a Stool RUMOUR w/ Barbra Streisand! She admits it is TRUE!!!! I will miss you so, Donna! Soundtrack of my Youthful Dancing Days! OUR LOVE will last forever!
It is impossible to forget donna summer. I've rarely met a woman who lives his singer and not just want to earn money. Donna Summer rests not in peace. That would be too boring for Donna Summer. Donna entertained further in heaven. I'm quite sure!!
5:44 It's TRUE. I'm on US Spotify now and that damn "Shout It Out" album is on Donna Summer's Spotify artist page. She and her team can't get rid of it.
OMG THIS IS IT! I am getting goose bumps when Donna talks about the fact that the radio DJs flipped the 7" vinyl single of "Can We Just Sit Down (And Talk It Over)" to the more exiting dance track "I Feel Love". This is another brilliant example of how important B-Sides were with single releases. It was basically your "Plan B" or your "joker" in case you or your management took the wrong decision. TRY AND DO THAT WITH A F***ING DOWNLOAD!!!!
Hard to believe but the same thing happened to Gloria Gaynor. The hit was supposed to have been "Substitute" but there was this "minor" little song on the flip side called "I Will Survive". I have heard the B side of I Feel Love; it was pretty, but not killer.
Thank You! Vielen Dank! It's great to hear an interview that's not all the usual questions but some of the questions we fans would have liked to asked her too. She will be missed.
Good interview. I loved her telling us about when she blacked out & Barbara still held her note & didn't even check ti see if she was alive still.... Her doing Barbara's voice has me laughing a lot as it's so funny! 😂🤣
Looks to me she knows he's a super fan so she disarms him right away, like a true pro. I think he is sweet & I do NOT care what his sexuality is like some fool did below in a comment. Dude aren't you past this yet. Get over it & who cares anyway.
Donna and her family were my neighbors and friends at 16 Parker Hill Ave. in Mission Hill. A sign was erected at the corner of Parker Hill Ave and Huntington Ave by the city of Boston which reads "DONNA SUMMER AVENUE". The memories will last forever. R.I.P. Disco Queen.
That is so true. I saw in concert singing live and she sounded just like her records, and better because she would effortlessly add extra spice to her vocals. I've been to a number of concerts since and I have to say she sounded the most like her recorded music. Not like a lot of artist today that you go see live and you know they are lip syncing or sound nothing at all like their recorded songs.
My uncondicional love for Donna,l could see her singing live, she's Was so clone to me. She Was so beautiful and The only that we can call of Diva. You Will remain eternally in my heart and my mind. Fly Donna! As Amanda Grace Sudano said: Mommybird ❤
She was so funny! She was offered a sitcom loosely based on her life in the late 80s/early 90s. When she read the script, they didn't want her real life husband to be her TV husband, but rather her boyfriend. They didn't like the idea of an interracial couple on TV. Donna turned the role down and kindly told them to go away.
actually her name was misspelled on her first album Lady of the night in Germany. her last name was Sommer bump when they album label and cover he misprint that's how she got the name somewhere they liked it and kept itactually put he actually put a u in place of the o making making it summer because of the misprint that's how she got the name summer they liked it and never changed it. her real name is Ladonna Gaines. she recorded a couple of 45s under that name. she met her husband Helmut sommer when they were in here together in Germany. they had a daughter Mimi which she wrote a song about it was on her live and More album
I will have to get a grip. I'm still not accepting that she is gone. I never cried at the death of a famous person until Donna Summer. She with her music was my escape growing up in the 1970's. I was , this little gay boy who''s stepfather hated him and got no support from his mother . Donna Summer's Music took me away. Spring Affair , I love You, Last Dance, I feel Love.........
@Terry Your comment nearly made me cry. I know someone who is in the exact same situation. His stepfather hates him because he's gay and his mom is very cold and distant. I'm glad Donna's music got you threw your pain and I hope things are much better for you. It's hard to believe the Queen of Disco has passed away. I thought she'd live to get to at least 80 years of age.
her mercury square Neptune causes her to stumble in her words sometimes...hard for her to bring what she really thinks to what she's inspired by together...
RicoCoracao11; is there any other clips with her and this guy? I would have loved to see a sleepover video of them. This is my all-time fave interview EVER!!!!!!!!!!
Donna Summer was simply magnificent and is a great loss to us all. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. Loved her music and singing ability.Fake american accents by a German or Austrian is very camp, screamingly camp and hideous, even Americans themselves would be horrified by it. Fake (and Camp) American accents by Europeans is disturbing. Donna spoke German very well without putting on a display of nonsense like this horrible man does in this video. What a shame.
I know my Summer, and I have to disagree with Donna when she says that album "Shout It Out" does not have her singing on it. That is her singing and although it was released with her face on the cover, the album is actually by Veit Marvos and contains songs from his albums and other projects he worked on in the early 70's when Donna was going by the name "Gayn Pierre". She appeared in GODSPELL in 1972 using that name (it is on the album credits), and was a session singer for various artists- what Veit Marvos did was take her singing from the background and remove the other voices and make it sound as if Donna was singing lead/solo on some of the songs. You can definitely tell it is her on the songs- "Little Marie" and "They Can't Take Away Our Music". The greatest mystery of her career is why she quit using her real name "Donna Gaines" and used "Gayn Pierre" for about a 2 year period. I have never seen or read an interview in which she discusses that. The album "Shout It Out" was released under various titles- "Remixed Greats & 70's Hits", "Funstreet", etc.
He interviews Donna Summer in a hallway? Whatever. Donna Summer was pretty and talented. I like her personality, but honestly, I don't like a single Donna Summer song. And back to reality: Michael Jackson was a guilty creep.
It's hard to think of a world without "Donna Summer"...
true true
Hot stuff number one and grammy donna summer was the first woman to win the grammy in that category. Right again
Awesome interview you go donna
I've watched dozens of interviews of this woman and this is by far the best one. She is funny, relaxed and incredibly sincere. I can tell she's really fond of the interviewer who is so charming. I can tell Donna is so happy by his questions as she becomes tactile which is rare for her.
AGREED ABOUT THIS INTERVIEW - IT SHOWED HER AMAZING BEAUTIFUL PERSONALITY

What a sweet lady she was. She will be missed forever. RIP Donna.
She was soooooo beautiful. She even still retained her voice all those years
Donna Summer was a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. She was an amazing vocalist who left her mark in music history. Thank you Donna for sharing your amazing talent with the world. You are still loved and missed.

Anon Ymous that wasnt 50 years ago lol...it was only 41 years ago that she changed her name to Summer
Anon Ymous And her first husband wasn't German he was Austrian, he just lived in Germany. Her 2nd & last husband was Italian & lived in Brooklyn when she met him.

I grew up listening to her music in the 70s what a talented and wonderful women she was, gone too soon she is dearly missed, R.I.P. Queen!
She was so humble and gentle. Diva and disco queen! RIP Donna.
What a lovely and beautiful lady.. Donna, why are you not with us anymore???????
Cancer is a B!!
I loved the German at the end even though i couldn't understand a word.
Donna Summer is very witty, smart...i did not know she could speak German so well 😂
interesting interview. great performer. amazing!
Hard to think that only three years later she was gone. God took her quite suddenly and hopefully in no pain. Her outstanding talent was clearly needed in heaven sooner. There will never be another vocal and musical talent like Donna again. The Queen. RIP.

"I couldn't sing that bad if I tried" 😜
Alistaire Aubrey you go Donna!!
5:44 It's TRUE. I'm on US Spotify now and that damn "Shout It Out" album is on Donna Summer's Spotify artist page. She and her team can't get rid of it.

Thank you sooooooooo much for this and keeping her memory alive! RIP Disco Diva!
What a great interview...a true star
RIP Donna
I'm still shocked at her passing. She looks so well!

DONNA I LOVE YOU ALWAYS
I wonder if that new album will ever be released.
This guy is hilarious.
RicoCoracao11; is there any other clips with her and this guy? I would have loved to see a sleepover video of them. This is my all-time fave interview EVER!!!!!!!!!!
they just keep talking when the video stops and I keep intereeesteeeed! where's the rest of it?? :)
Hw could make the interview in ferman because she spoke fluently german because her husband was austrian.
intervewer Torgen makes this video a cringe video. Donna is better than expected.
Years later I feel the interviewer isn’t as bad as I first thought. Could she be any sweeter?
poor Donna

E como cantava, hein! Adorava! 👏👏👏👏
I didn't know she spoke German
She worked and lived there in Germany in the 70s and married an Austrian.
And this Interviewer is obviously GAY- she didn't hate them at all! ~
she was pregnant???
Good eating... chiiiiilllee
Was she actually pregnant there?
You're kidding right? She's in her 50s here.
Donna gained weight
Terrible interview. He's egotistic, and annoyingly revolting.
He interviews Donna Summer in a hallway? Whatever.
Donna Summer was pretty and talented. I like her personality, but honestly, I don't like a single Donna Summer song.
And back to reality: Michael Jackson was a guilty creep.
