Thank you for this video!! You're they only one who did some detail explaining on this unit!!!! I just bought the mono version, and am trying to find every video on it until it arrives. I know there's nothing like just playing with it and figuring it out. I'm one of those ones that'll read manuals. Which I have already.🤣🤣. Thanks again sir!!!! I am trying to find the digital modules for the mono version but I can't find them anywhere. Emailed Neve. Waiting for them to respond.
Thanks for kind words. I really love this unit. I'm not sure about the digital IO card for any of the units. I'm not affiliated with Neve in any way other than a lover of the gear. yep, playing with toys is the best!! Best of luck to you!!
Very good test on a solo track. So rare on TH-cam. And best of the best : 2 tracks with dynamic and ribbon mics. Exactly what I needed. Please, give us a comparison between the 1073 EQ and the Massive Passive EQ on a high gain riff recorded with the Dual Rectifier !!!
Hi Willy, in this session I am reamping a guitar track, sending a pre recorded guitar DI out thru a Marshall amp and micing it u thru the Neve. I use the 1073 for sweetening up Pro Tools tracks all the time. Usually when I am mixing a project for someone that sent me something to mix where they didn’t have a stellar front end like the Neve to use when they were tracking. It lets me put a little of that Neve magic onto their tracks.
Mike Bolenbach Great! So, you route thru Neve MIC XLR w/ attenuation to pass thru the INPUT transistor as well as the OUTPUT one is what I’m understanding.
Welcome To Willy Calderon technically, I am using microphones on this track. The reamp is sending a DI track of the unprocessed guitar out of pro tools thru a reamp box into a marshall JMP amp with a Celestion V30 cabinet. The cabinet is mic’d up with a sennheiser 421 and a Peluso ribbon mic....those mics are what is patched into the Neve mic inputs. When I am just sweetening pro tools tracks with the Neves, I generally use the line inputs.
Well good news. I have both of them now lol. To my ears, the Neve 1073N sounds more modern/brighter than the 1073SPX. The SPX rounds off the transients better. I prefer the SPX tbh. I don't think the N is worth the extra $, unless you for sure need it to be portable or capable of fitting into an actual console. I'll be sending the N back. It's personal preference and trust me I wanted the N to beat the SPX. Also the SPX has an output trim, off/on button, & pretty much all other controls on the front panel - which i love.
And before I send it back I have clients that have home studios that usually send me super clean raw vox ran only through their interface. I'll print 2 separate vocals - 1 with the N & one with the SPX. I'll also do the same for drums 🙏🏽 My instagram is LilEddMusic, if anyone wants to hear them. Message me there & I'll send samples via email.
@@LilEddMusic let me know when you do that!! Instagram @jatero I will go for the spx then. I have been searching online for comparisons between a 1073lb(+500 case like a BAE 2lb), 1073spx and the 1073n. I will be using it with u87ai into an SSL6 into a Prism Orpheus.
Hi. I just received my Neve 1073 DPX from the Music Store. The low, and the mid band eq buttons of the lower rack seem to be very loose. I am talking about the 2 gray buttons on top. Other buttons at the same place on the above rack, and the other vol. buttons feel good to the touch. This is such an expensive unit from a reputable company, and I am planning on keeping it for a life time. Can you please verify if your unit has a similar issue, or not? Are they all like this? Are we loose at some buttons, and more tight on others, even for the same function's buttons for the 2 racks? Thank you.
I’m not sure if the artist put the song out on streaming yet, but he’s a super cool guy...find him on Instagram at @phil.keiser.....I THINK. LOL. If that doesn’t work....hit me up, I’ll find it.
One of the off positions is between the mic & line inputs as he showed the other off that he didn’t show when you go past this off it engages a second amplifier stage into the mic circuit. I don’t own this particular set up but I do own the vintage original 1066’s & 1064’s.
That’s a good question. Both those preamps are amazing. The BAE is supposedly an exact duplicate of a 1073. The harmonic content of all of these are amazing. I’ve only used the Chandler a handful of times but was extremely impressed. All the BAE stuff I’ve used was equally amazing. I used some BAE 1272s for Alice Cooper’s vocals on a record a few years back. The ones we used were original Neve units that were racked up by Brent. Holy awesome sauce. Whether or not the DPX is “better” or not is subjective as these are all fantastic.
I definitely could have demoed it with some different stuff but this was what I was working on when I demoed it. I’ve been loving it on pretty much everything. This demo was from a few years ago and the unit has become one of my main go to units for almost anything. I have a ton of pres,..API, Neve, Avalon, Vintech, SSL, Amek, Shadow Hills, Great Rivers, high end Focusrites, etc etc and this one is up there with all of them. Cheers. 🦄
Yes, we were running mics thru the 1073 pres. We reamped his clean guitar DI (electric guitar straight in, no processing of any kind) into a 1974 Marshall JMP and mic’d it up thru the 1073. We had originally recorded the guitar thru a pair of Amek Neve 9098s, But just muted those tracks and started over with a fresh amp sound and reamped his original performance from the DI track. 👍🤘👍
I blew my head off in the middle of this solo, now I'm in hell listening to people scratch their fingernails on a chalk board. Sound just like the solo!

AMS Neve DPX is awesome! That is one of the best preamps made today.
If you think it sounds better than yours or our friend's vintage units, sell the vintage units to me. Serious.
Christian Noir I think it’s the best MODERN preamp made today! Hey my vintage Neves ain’t going nowhere ha ha!
You think DPX sounds better than Shelford?

That guitar is on Fire!!! Awesome performance and gear
Thank you. I will pass on your compliment to the artist. He's a great guy. You can find him on instagram @phil.keiser
So two years in are you still loving it? What is your opinion of how it sounds on acoustic guitar and male rock voices? Thanks
I am. It’s almost impossible to make it sound bad.
How, when and why should I send my sessions back into the Neve?

Mike Bolenbach Hey Thanks For The reply! Ok, I understand now. Thanks a lot and looking forward to the next vids!
Hi, I have the Neve 1073N.
I wonder if there are any differences in sound terms of sound quality between both?
A question I have been looking for the answer to that NOBODY has an answer to.

Are you talking about the mid band boost/cut knob?
That guitar completely had my face twisted... A totally un-expecter face melted. Great stuff
Is that song available? I need it

Why are there (2) different OFF positions on the Big Red knob? Why is there an OFF position between -50 and -55?

Would you still prefer this over an Bae 1073/ TG2 ?

You sure this guitar solo as an example is a good idea to show this preamp? It's mainly mids and high piercing notes...

Hey how you doing, I have the mono version of this gear, and I want to ask you if it's normal to have noice at 40 on the red knob
Hey...I’ve never noticed any noise on this one on any of the pre amp setting.
so, do u like ur neve spx ?
Is this a digital or analog device?
This is an analog device that has a slot for an optional digital out. 👍
@@fullwell100 thx homee
Hi, how does this compare to the Neumann V402? Thank you for your help.
Hi. I haven’t shot it out against that one. I’m sure they both are quite fantastic. 😜
Is the neve worth it? Does it give the vintage model its cloned after justice and is the warm audio version even close?
I have a friend who has the warm audio version. They are not even close sonically. The Neve sounds incredible.
Did he prerecords the guitars.....thats makes it just an eq in this example....or did the guitars go through the 1073?
Yes, we were running mics thru the 1073 pres. We reamped his clean guitar DI (electric guitar straight in, no processing of any kind) into a 1974 Marshall JMP and mic’d it up thru the 1073. We had originally recorded the guitar thru a pair of Amek Neve 9098s, But just muted those tracks and started over with a fresh amp sound and reamped his original performance from the DI track. 👍🤘👍
ahhh nice!
The ribbon sounded better and smoother.
have you seen that in NoEuro country this one is with 400 euro chipper..some units with until 1000 euro chipper,.. Serbia,Russia or Turkay
I have not.
