I had my first colonoscopy in early Feb this year after a positive FOBT (no symptoms whatsoever). When I woke up, I saw two nurses assembling a bunch of referral forms for further labwork and CT scans. I knew I was in trouble and snuck a peek at my records when they left, and my eyes somehow zeroed right in on the dreaded word 'malignant.' The doctor came in and told me he found a large-ish mass and he was almost certain it was cancer. It was like being hit with a truck. Went home in a daze, got all the tests done and had to wait 2 weeks & 6 days for a followup to learn the results of the biopsy & scans. The waiting is hard. Today is 3/1/24. I am 42. I will be 43 on 3/7/24. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy/endoscopy on 3/5/24. I suffer from SEVERE constipation. My symptoms right now are changes in bowel habits- sometimes mushy, sometimes hard “rocks”, other times yellow in color. Globs of mucus. I often see specks of dark blood in my stool. Rectal achy pain. Ascites (build up of fluid in the abdomen) Clear rectal discharge. Pain on the left side of my abdomen when I poop. Bloated belly. Extreme fatigue- blood results suggests I have microcytic anemia (which is oftentimes associated with colon cancer). Lastly, I had a Gastric Emptying Study done on 2/29/24. I will come back to update this comment with my results for all 3 tests as soon as they become available to me in hopes of helping someone else with the same symptoms/problems. Let us all hold on for we are stronger than what we think! 🤍🕊️
I have a family history of colon cancer. I am 64 and I am going in for my 5th coloscopy which I have scheduled next month. I agree that the procedure saves lives.
OK, I post it again: CRC is treatable. If the tumor accumulates sufficient DNA damage and loses markers that are used by conventional chemo, then it starts responding to Fenbendazole which is an anti-parasitic medicine. Fenbendazole does not replace chemo, it supplements it and is vital 3 days on, 4 days off, 444mg. It is not a magic bullet and it requires certain conditions in order to work. The most important is the loss of DNA stability, which happens anyway to some of the tumor cells after months of chemo. See "Anti-cancer effects of fenbendazole on 5-fluorouracil-resistant colorectal cancer cells". Also, anti-inflammatory pectin, e.g. Luden's sugar free lozenges (at least 5 a day) and/or pectin from orange peels slow down the metastasis, "Anti-Cancer Pectins and Their Role in Colorectal Cancer Treatment". Most cancers do not breathe oxygen. They use a more primitive process of energy production by fermenting glucose and glutamine. Do not consume sugar or simple carbs. Take your energy from olive oil and some cheese. At most eat a limited amount of cooked potatoes. If you do take Luden's pectin lozenges, take only the sugar free ones! You need a ketogenic diet that will starve any reoccurring cancer. The problem with oncologists is that most of them are not open minded. There are other supplements such as turmeric + a little black pepper for absorption and 81 mg aspirin that help but these have little influence. Cumulatively, Fenbendazole + pectin + turmeric + aspirin can help to a far greater extent. You also need vitamin D3 1100 to 500o IU + Magnesium for absorption. Without magnesium, vitamin D3 is not effective. Vitamin D3 + Magnesium increase the odds or survival from CRC by 12% !!! See "Vitamin D and colorectal cancer - A practical review of the literature". Most research papers made a mistake that they did not distinguish between daily consumption and weekly consumption of D3. It works best if taken every day. Do not consume eggs: "What Explains the Egg-Cancer Connection" and definitely not red meat!!! You can find many papers on the connection between CRC and red meat consumption.

A friend of ours was very, very sick with colorectal cancer and his life was saved in a Houston hospital. Apparently Houston has excellent hospitals for cancer. My mother died of colon cancer in 1983. All of my siblings get colonoscopies regularly now. My mother was in the clinical trials for the chemo port in the late 80s, and I worked for Genentech for 21 years, including the era when Avastin was approved. Treatments are improving so quickly, and I hope your generation will benefit in this regard.
My 60 year old uncle was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer just 6 months after he had had a completely normal colonoscopy (no symptoms but ordered during his annual physical due to his age and family history of other types of cancer). They suspect the cancer was "triggered" by a serious dose of food poisoning he got while traveling (another family member also got food poisoning from same food item but has not developed cancer). It was only found because he couldn't seem to recover from the food poisoning symptoms. With aggressive treatment he lived another 14 mths. My sister-in-law was diagnosed 18 mths ago with stafe 3C, at age 36. She had more typical symptoms. After surgery, 12 rounds of iv chemo, another surgery, and months of oral chemo (finished last week), they finally think she is NED (scan in May).
You are indeed a very very lucky person, especially living near one of the best cancer hospitals in America; my mother was treated in NYC at Sloan Kettering Memorial. You do lecture about your disease. That said: TRY to avoid "k'know y'know y'know" a verbal tic you have which you can train yourself to avoid.
Clean scope 2 months before a reacurance of adenocarcinoma colon cancer. Scopes save lives but it's a tool of preservation listening to your body is important to.
My dad had colon cancer, his brother did as well. I also had a first cousin on my dads side that had colon cancer. I had a colonoscopy as a precaution and was told it was clear so I could repeat in 5-7 years!!! Are they crazy??? All this family history and I’m suppose to wait years before I repeat? No way. I’ll be asking for one much sooner. I also didn’t have anesthesia as it was not offered to me and it was painful. I saw on report that it was advised I didn’t tolerate the procedure well and should get anesthesia in the future. No kidding. I won’t do it again without being put out.
Saying you see blood in your stool is a good way to make them give you one! But also just monitor your body. If anything weird happens with your poop go immediately. Pooping too much, too little, different weird colors, bad smelling gas are all signs
Definitely don't wait the five to seven years. Lots of colon cancer in my family. Was scoped in 2018 and was perfect. Was told to come back in ten years. Last year I was unwell, insisted on a scope. Guess what? Colon cancer.
What scared me in your experience is that the clear colonoscopy only 1.5 years before the colonoscopy that detected cancer. Doctors always assure us that most colorectal cancers take at least 10 years to develop. I realize you addressed that by saying your cancer was suspected to be very aggressive, because it showed up so soon after your last colonoscopy - or, of course, because it was missed in that colonoscopy. Still, it’s scary to know that sometimes, it CAN develop much sooner than 10 years post-colonoscopy. Anyway, I hope you have excellent health from now on. Btw, re plans for one’s death - everyone should make such plans, especially for eventual hospitalization, no matter one’s age.
Don’t get too scared though, I was sure I had cancer but I absolutely didn’t. It was the best thing I ever did for myself, even though it wasn’t what I thought. Still, please get checked as the earlier the better, for both your health and mental health.
The only time I really used information online when my late husband was being treated for colon cancer was to find ways to improve palliative care to help him tolerate side effects. I did find products that really helped. For instance, really painful mouth sores are a side effect of a lot of treatments and I found an amazing rinse created by a pediatric oncologist at MD Anderson - made a huge difference for him.
Stop the anti science baloney - especially not on a science-based website. If you want to boycott vaccines and other life saving, (miraculous, really) but do not spread malicious misinformation online. You will have blood on your hands. I also suggest getting your head out of the online misinformation ecosystem - you’ll make better decisions in your life.

I have had bloating, gas, small stomac cramps,, weird looking stool, ,, for three weeks.. will do a FOBT test tomorrow at home prior to a phonecall from the doctor. I have no fatigue and hemoglobin looks good.. but I have noticed more frequent diarre the last 10 months.. I have a history of working with radioactivity and had a abdomen that was not protected.. so in risk group.. 48 year old male.. I pretty sure I have had it for a long time.. so probalby stage 4.. I am expecting the worst.. And you are right.. It is time to have people be more aware of their bowel habits and how the stool looks like.. FOBT test should be mandetory from the age of 45..

10 years? I'm not an expert, but you are 69 with diverticulitis! I did read that IBS isn't a risk factor for colon cancer, but diverticulitis is. Don't they suggest a colonoscopy every 5yrs now?

I had my 1st colonoscopy when I was 31 yrs old my kids had an Asian flu that’s what they called it and I got it and I could not kick it it was scary I had a fever diarrhea big time and I threw up I went to ER 2 times and they just gave me some pills and they told me everyone you go to the bathroom take one of these ! Well it did not work then one day my hubby was at work I told the kids to get our neighbor and one neighbor took me to my dry he other neighbor kept the kids as soon as my doctor saw me he said go to the hospital now I ended up staying in the hospital for 6 days 😩 they only gave me clear liquids but I still had diarrhea the dr came in and asked me have you been traveling to Mexico ?? NO why ? I’m just worried I know there is no colon issues in blood family and only an uncle by marriage right ? Yes ! Well I think you need a colonoscopy what do you think ? Just do it ! they tried to clean me out but it never came out clear so they went ahead and it was a clean colon I just had a bad BUG 😩😩 so now if people are sick do not come to my house
It’s not a wand; it’s a very thin tube with a camera at its end (google it). Of course it’s clean - it’s sterilized, as is everything medical that’s inserted into the body. I suggest that you have a colonoscopy. I’ve had four altogether (I’m 75 and a breast cancer survivor, but so far have not had colorectal). Twice, non-cancerous polyps were found and removed and biopsied during the colonoscopy. Same as Allison here, I’ve had the tests only under the anesthesia that allows no memory of the procedure (the anesthetic is wonderful for the first 3 seconds!).
Ms.Cheryl, no one is sticking a contaminated tube up your rear end. Hopefully your comment was in jest, all medical procedures have a researched and specific standard of care. When possible devices that are disposable are used. When not they are scrubbed and sanitized, then sterilized. There are controls used to verify sterility is achieved. This includes surgical and dental instruments.
I'm a germaphobe. I hate germs, dirt , just anything that can make you sick. I'm the type that can't touch anything that can have germs. I have had 3 colonoscopies (ages 21, 35, and 49) because cancer runs heavily on both sides of my family. If I can get it done, everyone can get it done. They showed me how clean the instruments are. Trust me, get it done. They are very sterile plus It's life saving!!!

People with Crohn’s disease are more likely to get colon cancer than others. I knew she was going to say she has Crohn’s before she said she did. Medications or not.

That's crazy and so unfortunate, clean colonoscopy a year and a half earlier then suddenly develop aggressive colon cancer within that time. Houston has an excellent cancer center, MD Anderson, but not “the best” cancer hospitals. There are excellent cancer centers through out the US.

Blood in stool can be hemorrhoids too.

Which leads me to believe that these aggressive cancers maybe be caused by the vaccine.

I did too a few days ago AND a ct scan. Turns out its my back hurting and radiating everywhere basically, like a pinched nerve

MD Anderson is a great place to go…. I went with my husband when he had bladder cancer.
Beyond crones disease, I wonder what kind of genetic tests were done and, if so, did that affect your treatment options?

First, her cancer was almost a decade before COVID. Stop wondering: There’s zero scientific evidence that the vaccine caused cancer.

@bdlimea7018 I think it depends on what country u live in. I'm in Canada. I'm going to ask for an earlier Colonoscopy because I don't feel right leaving it at even 5 yrs, let alone 10. Thanks for responding.

I'm in Canada, I think I will be asking to be tested much much earlier esp since I discovered as of yesterday upon examination that I'm quite tender upper left quadrant stomach where liver is located.. but I do have a lot of IBS problems at least what I think is IBS.
I had my 1st colonoscopy when I was 31 yrs old my kids had an Asian flu that’s what they called it and I got it and I could not kick it it was scary I had a fever diarrhea big time and I threw up I went to ER 2 times and they just gave me some pills and they told me everyone you go to the bathroom take one of these ! Well it did not work then one day my hubby was at work I told the kids to get our neighbor and one neighbor took me to my dry he other neighbor kept the kids as soon as my doctor saw me he said go to the hospital now I ended up staying in the hospital for 6 days 😩 they only gave me clear liquids but I still had diarrhea the dr came in and asked me have you been traveling to Mexico ?? NO why ? I’m just worried I know there is no colon issues in blood family and only an uncle by marriage right ? Yes ! Well I think you need a colonoscopy what do you think ? Just do it ! they tried to clean me out but it never came out clear so they went ahead and it was a clean colon I just had a bad BUG 😩😩 so now if people are sick do not come to my house

It’s not a wand; it’s a very thin tube with a camera at its end (google it). Of course it’s clean - it’s sterilized, as is everything medical that’s inserted into the body. I suggest that you have a colonoscopy. I’ve had four altogether (I’m 75 and a breast cancer survivor, but so far have not had colorectal). Twice, non-cancerous polyps were found and removed and biopsied during the colonoscopy. Same as Allison here, I’ve had the tests only under the anesthesia that allows no memory of the procedure (the anesthetic is wonderful for the first 3 seconds!).
Ms.Cheryl, no one is sticking a contaminated tube up your rear end. Hopefully your comment was in jest, all medical procedures have a researched and specific standard of care. When possible devices that are disposable are used. When not they are scrubbed and sanitized, then sterilized. There are controls used to verify sterility is achieved. This includes surgical and dental instruments.

I'm a germaphobe. I hate germs, dirt , just anything that can make you sick. I'm the type that can't touch anything that can have germs. I have had 3 colonoscopies (ages 21, 35, and 49) because cancer runs heavily on both sides of my family. If I can get it done, everyone can get it done. They showed me how clean the instruments are. Trust me, get it done. They are very sterile plus It's life saving!!!

That's crazy and so unfortunate, clean colonoscopy a year and a half earlier then suddenly develop aggressive colon cancer within that time. Then again, she already had Crohns disease which does increase your chances of developing colon cancer. Whatever is written for you is written for you in this life. Wish everyone health 🙏🏽

How can that happen read her book she was the lady who done the oxo ads and in her book dying to tell you something she basically implies that the doctor saw the tumour but lied to her and told her everything was ok if that's the case then the doctor who done the colonoscopy murdered her deliberately ......
