I played against you in a duels lobby a week or so ago and thought “Oooh now’s my chance to put all that Dave taught me to the test and beat him at his own game!” It didn’t go well…
The pickaxe is a better choice for the engineer because you can pick up a shield. Also, after you use your ramp/bear trap, you can replace your secondary slot with a 1H sword, which is easy to find around some resupply boxes, which you're already gonna be going to and from. It's a good way to maximize your kit.
One more thing about engineer - if you spawn with spike trap, place 2+2 walls and spikes and you die if you respawn an engineer with bear trap you can place the other trap, while we all know the same trap gets destroyed. Tested, I'm positive
@@Nostroman_Praetor This is the only reason I've stuck with Shovel on my engineer, feels way too close for comfort when I try Pickaxe. I'm probably in the wrong but the muscle memory is dug in by now
@@eliezeririzarry247 It being a 2 handed weapon also means less stamina loss on block so your by far safer actually taking the shovel or sledge. Pro tip: Arrows and crossbow bolts (not sure about ballistas) can be parried, which if your skilled enough circumvents the need to have a shield to begin with.
Part of the benefit of the Poleaxe is that a lot of players can’t tell what you’re doing when you special. Many people will mistake it for an overhead in the heat of the moment and try to counter. I’ve had great success maining poleaxe and throwing out heavy stabs and overheads/specials
I've seen the morningstar special surprise a lot of people tbh. Some lad legs it in swinging like a lunatic, and an enemy assumes it's a single strike and a bad miss so lower their guard to attack the supposed opening then get the second or third swing to the teeth. Nice list 👍 Also it may be muck but the sound the shovel makes is hilarious and worth it for a laugh every now and then imo
Yes! Please! I certainly think of this list when I want to know what weapon to pick up off the ground after panic throwing my main weapon. I need to know what’s good to grab around me to throw!
I just got back into chivalry again after a long while of not playing and was using the messer(I like the weapon in general so I used it I do not know if it is good or bad). I was wondering what weapons I could use and play to switch things up and I saw the previous tier list videos, and I hoped for a new one since there’s an update, and now you dropped an update tier list, thank you so much!
Love your tier list, always a good reference to me. I don't play competitive but what i've noticed in pubs and even against good players is that alot of people have a hard time reading the Quarterstaff since there's very little people that uses it. The feints,animations and hitboxes are kind of weird on it and sometimes that can give me the upper hand when i use it.

I completely agree with the full list! My only little note at all is that, for me personally, I actually like the Dagger for 1vx fights. Weirdly enough, I've come to really appreciate the hitstop on it with its speed, cause it lets me get my block/counters up really quickly! Not to say it belongs in a different tier or anything, just an interesting observation! Thanks for all the content, it's been really helpful for my Chiv play!
The Dagger hitstop would be tolerable if at least the heavy attacks cleaved, but having hitstop on the heavy slashes is really detrimental. The Rapier has hitstop but the Rapier heavy slashes do not.
Interesting, I didn't know that since I don't use Rapier myself! And yeah, you're right and it's likely just not a great 1vX. I am biased because I love being a sneaky shithead.
Javelin should deal more stamina and shield damage. Being able to break small shields in 1 hit, medium in 2 and large in 3. That was really the whole point to pilums since they penetrate through shields and make them unwieldy. That being said, I don't think anything else about it should change since the damage is really high and it can be weapon blocked unlike arrows but being able to block it with little consequence and how much harder it is to land a hit makes it pretty bad since the reward for landing a shot isn't worth the downsides.
I'd put Highland Sword in Redundant tier personally. Its useable, but considering as a Devastator you could always take the Great Sword instead. Way better speed an actually useful special and all you give up is slightly less damage on heavy overheads.
I agree with most of this list, and the stuff I differ on is by like a tier. Thing I like about chiv is that even with some of the worst weapons, you can give a majority of the playerbase the business if you jump into TO modes.
What made you decide to have Heavy Mace over Dane Axe? Genuinely curious, I would think the Dane Axe to be higher for its deceiving speed and range, paired with the great damage. Overall no complaints, this is a great list, thanks for putting it together.
The Heavy Mace can be used on Officer, and it has a passive stamina drain negation which helps massively. Also, the Heavy Mace has some attacks which are just as fast if not faster than the Dane Axe's fastest attacks. It also has superior draggability.
@Soter Dave Thats fair. With regards to 1vX situations I think the fact that its a blunt weapon that can't cleave and its on a less mobile class to bumps it down for me personally. I find more success playing vanguard with a cleaving weapon to help the 1vX situations. Definitely see the point though, just my opinion. Great list!
Dave would you be some what in agreement that the dane axe animations are kinda easy to read making it not as good in comp as pub? BTW my longsword....
I've been a devout war club user nearly since launch. It's so insanely fast that the alt slash can interrupt basically any attack if you're fast enough and excel properly. It's good at everything and every mode and i'm glad it's getting some love.
Yeah it's pretty great. It's often neglected because it can only be used on Devastator, which more often than not will be using the superior Greatsword. But the War Club has its own unique strengths
@@randomuser4379 war club alt slash seems to be much faster to start up than the normal slash. You can excel it so quickly that you can nearly interrupt anything on reaction. Really strong duel weapon at least
I would argue that the longbow synergizes better with the brazier, since more arrows = more headshots = faster brazier and also the brazier's primary purpose is the distortion effect it creates, and more arrows shot out faster means more enemies disrupted. Also more ammo means you can charge up a brazier and not have to reload before using your ability, so you don't have to play around an ammo crate all game and maximizing your uptime. You can even outplay warbow users since your stamina game is better. Just bait them into camping a corner they think you will peek while shooting at other players, and when they're finally exhausted you can peek for a safe shot. You don't need to kill a player to remove them from a fight, just bait them into focusing you while still getting value in other ways and you've effectively taken them out for free. I'm not arguing it's better than warbow, just maybe not a "redundant" weapon since it has some upsides like the brazier synergy and stamina. At least those are my thoughts as a casual player, I wonder how this would work in comp...
At the moment, there are very few archers in competitive play that are actually competent, and none of them use the bow. They all use the Warbow or Crossbow. This is because being able to shoot more arrows and like more people on fire is comparatively worse than having the ability to one shot another Archer to the body while also having double the damage of the bow. It's too significant of a damage jump to neglect. I do admit that it may be a bit cruel to put it in the redundant tier, but at least at the high level, bow users don't play much different from warbow users. they just get less kills.
Javs desperately need at least an archer dmg bonus modifier. I should without a doubt be able to one shot an archer with them to the chest. I think the javs also need slight flat dmg buffs for each attack, and the mini shield needs a longevity buff. Skirmisher sad :(
Im a half-decent rapier main, and I would heavily disagree for one main reason. The reason things like one handed Spears excel at team fights is because you can reach over your teammates head and stab enemies for good damage. And you can intercept enemies and interrupt them to play a very strong support role, with rapier, you can do the exact same thing, except instead of over their head, you go in between them, I play it like a spear during team fight, but will switch to sword-like play style in 1v1s. That’s why I think it’s so good it can play both roles.
Unfortunately it's too short to play in the way you describe, at least at a competitive level. And that's why nobody does it. I don't think it's impossible for that to be done, but it's pretty uncommon.
Nice tier list, and I have to agree with your commentary about the qstaff basically being pointless atm. That said I'm still gonna use it because I just think it's fun and I feel good topscoring in pubs with it where as when I top score with the heavy mace I just feel dirty, haha.
Katars are great for ambushing them from behind, very nice overall but requires skill to keep in mind they don't interrupt attacks, only the special does lol
The stam negation nerf especially hurts for knights. Pole axe is still in my top 5. Im over level 200 and Im not bad with the Cavalry sword, but it just feels inferior to the sword and even falchion. Range focused weapons just tend to be bad compared to speed and damage focused ones. Maybe up its damage a little bit, but keep it slow. Its not chop or blunt, so I don't think it would put it in S tier. Im trying to get good with it, but I have to 4D chess knights to beat them. I perform noticeably better with the sword still and it upsets me.
As it stands currently, it is 'good enough'. I do not feel it needs to improve much, but my advice to you is to integrate more special attacks into your combos when fighting Knights. It's your strongest attack and it's surprisingly quick compared to your heavy attacks. Also understand you recieve other benefits which may be invisible to you, like longer counter windows and greater active parry timings on top of its greatest benefit, extremely easy to use cavalry attacks.
Do you have a video discussing 2h weapons vs 1h weapons ? If not maybe you could just answer : in high level duels can 2h weapons compete against 1handers? Thanks.
The best two handed weapons are much better options than their one handed counterparts. However, a shield can be used to 'make up for the difference'. I suggest going to break their shield if you're attempting to win duels against one handed players. For example: Sword + Shield > Longsword > Sword At the end of the day though, neither is stronger than the other to seriously make up for any skill difference if you're just better than them as a fighter.
I wanna point out that arrows can be parried if you know where and when they'll hit you, but this doesn't mean you can reliably do so in a fight. Since I learned it was possible I've just been doing it to scare the crap out of archers who think they can attack me uncontested.
Unpopular opinion, I love war club beacuse of how fast it is for a 2h weapon. I wish greatsword was this fast. I have ADHD or something its fustrating how slow things are. I need speed!! Historically a zwei weighing 5-6lbs was very quick, nimble, agile most games portray a greatsword like if your swinging a sledgehammer. 🧐
to be fair the Glaive shines in Defence, its speed and range allow to control crowds easily, while it wont get many kills it sure pokes a lot making the enemy atleast to back off
Unfortunately it doesn't have enough damage output to justify its usage. It's not a terrible weapon, as I didn't put it in the actually bad tier. I just don't think it's great.
@@yourmum5576 the Glaive is still a totally usable weapon! It's just not an amazing weapon. You'll also need to understand that competitive play is very different from casual play and some weapons become significantly worse against good players.
Since this video is about competitive play, and not casual, I'll have to agree with the Cudgel, but for casual, nothing beats the fear in an opponents eyes when they realize the archer they tried to ambush has one of the fastest weapons in the game, and isn't afraid to mercilessly club someone to death with it, haha.
The war club is my favorite weapon in the whole game, especially for duels. Its so fast and its range is very long. Absolutely the best two handed blunt weapon imo. Lol I guess its bad if youre against another vanguard, but again, most players are knights.
Thanks for the tier list I usually run crusader with messer and falchion is a great pair only lvl 41 but usually in top 5 in 64 player modes but when I go into duels I get slapped up

Interesting that you place the grand mace in S-tier. A lot of people put it in low C or B tier. I‘v used it since chivalry 1 and the only thing stopping it from being OP is the blunt hit stop in this game imo
Love the content my man, I agree with the list and I am glad you see the cavalry sword as it is, an ok-ish weapon, but that is it. I really saw a lot of Chiv 2 youtubers gush over it, but maybe because they are beasts at the game and of course they can slaughter people with it. But among one handers there are faster / harder hitting weapons and the range is nothing special at all when facing two handers which dominate team fights. I used it plenty myself and I really feel it lacking a lot. I used the morning start after and I went on a complete tear with that. Even the falchion I feel is better, despite the lower range.
The difference between me and most Chivalry content creators is that I play competitively for most of my gameplay, so I will look at content from a competitive lens. And competitively, the Cavalry sword is just ok lol. I give it credit for its cavalry capabilities though, as they are awesome and its easily the best one handed weapon on horseback.
I think the misconception occurs because it's really easy to bully noobs with spacing and otherwise leveraging high reach. In 64 man TO I almost sort of use it like a one handed greatsword and bait swings to space and punishband this tends to be effective, but doesn't really work against good players and unlike gs the damage is extremely mid lol
@@TheArnoldification You can abuse range with far better weapons than the cavalry sword though. I allmost never see it used in TO even by experienced players. Even on duel servers it is rare to non existent in the match. And those servers have plenty of good players.
@@SoterDave Right you are, but even from a more casual perspective the cavalry sword has little going for it. The range is nothing special compared to two handers that fill up most lobbies. I rarely see people using it. And people like Ziggy kept saying how awsome it is. The guy is a beast at the game, but I dont see why he keeps saying its so great of a weapon.
Shovel is a meme honestly, which is where it should be. Sledgehammer needs something to set it apart. The longbow and quarterstaff should be pair together to have a "yoeman" style subclass.

The Spear is still the dominant species in this land. No arguments allowed. The Halberd comes close, but most of us agree it isn't as potent as the Spear.
I’m a new player. Just came in with wave of PS players because it’s free this month. I started using the 2h spear a few days ago and am now frequently around the top of the scoreboard. A testament to its power! It seems to struggle in 1vX and duels.. i usually just try to create space and retreat or wait for teammates. When I can third party a fight though.. boy, does it dominate! Is Glaive comparable? I know it does less damage, but I’d love some more attack options and the vanguard war horn.
The Glaive is significantly worse than the Spear. Still fun though and like I said, still completely viable. I wouldn't say it's like the Spear though, it's more like a variant of the Halberd.
Glaive is horrible. Give the Dane axe a try for the vanguard class. Also the Maul. Once you get use to the speed you can really go on some killing sprees. Even if they block you are draining stamina and eventually they will drop their weapon.
I cant speak to the javelins efficacy, cause Ive never used them, but I can say with confidence they are extremely popular among high-level ffa players. I dont know why, but I see at least one level 200+ player using them in every ffa match I play, and I play ALOT of ffa.
35:08 They have not the same stamina drain negation, Staff still consume way less stamina while holding block and while actuall blocking. I just test this today and i think you should do.
I've met some people who are actually really good with katars. They're not bad if you know what they are at it's core and how to use it. Katars are used to counter and sneak in hits while someone is swinging, it's standing special actually cancels an enemies attack and it's headbutt jab has good range. I wish they would buff the damage window width, i see myself missing alot, a jab has higher damage width than katars do. I personally don't think Katars are the 2nd worst
I’d argue the cudgel is good specifically to the Crossbowman as an alternative to the axe. I specifically used for fighting wounded knights and footman in a 1v1 scenario of witch I need speed and damage, of witch though the axe and hatchet beat in damage in cleave get outpaced by speed. I cannot count the times of where I land a shot on a knight and he tanks it, starts charging only for me to whip out the cudgel and hit him once, reducing him from 1/2 to 1/4th HP in one brisk move, forcing him onto the defensive of witch I’ll mostly win due to my speed. Useless as a sidearm for say the Ambusher or Poleman but you can be surprised by how effective it is as a sidearm for the Corssbowman in the right hands
In reality your best weapon for fighting opponents in melee as a crossbowman is your feet. I understand the range but the damage is traded off for speed, of witch as a crossbowman one screw up and you’re done. The cudgel sacrifices a tad bit more damage for the speed of a shortsword and the ability to dispatch a wounded knight in three hits, 4-5 if your unlucky to fight a full one but your landing two if he’s not expecting the speed of the counters. It’s all dependent on how you play the crossbowman really, frontlines takes the axe and snipers cudgel. Still see why the axe is a great option for pushing points but I’m sticking to a weapon that can force a guy thinking he’s going to get a quick kill into a situation of where I control the flow of it rather then hoping for two hits to connect.
Highland Sword is better now. Man its a good day to be a HL Sword main. Also great teir list, i found it quite reasonable besides HL sword being in B teir. But thats only because im biased (:

@@SoterDave Vanguard already has plate armour on some of the sets, and chain mail and scale armour surprising have very similar defensive properties, but honestly they should have made it a new class called Huscarl or, maybe even Drang. Give it the Dane axe, short sword and shield, spear variants, the hatchet and maybe a new axe variant, maybe even the sledge hammer. Just a thought I had I just don’t want to sacrifice my favourite weapons for an armour set, though I do think that ffa shouldn’t be limited to classes and actually let us make our own character instead.
The highland sword is so goated, its a takedown printer. Lol I think the most people ive hit with one swing is 8, its so cool. Plus its got nice overheads for when you dont feel like causing team damage.
Not at all, what are you talking about? Nobody players Skirmisher in competitive whatsoever. I can't even remember the last time someone played Archer, let alone Skirmisher.@@cprn.
I think you're mistaken. This tier list is based on the competitive viability of a weapon, not how good it is in a pub. In the competitive community, Skirmisher is not effective in the slightest, and consistently underperforms.@@cprn.
Gotta disagree on the pole hammer. It has one of the highest speeds of two handed weapons, doesn’t hit block on hit, and it has one of the highest damage specials next to the Maul.
Execution axe + Morning star as a knight is so op (and you also get the Molotov). I don't understand how both are not higher on the list. In 95% of my games (when I start from beginning) I am in 1st or 2nd spot. and I am only level 100 now (usually a lot of level 200,300,400+). and usually i have the highest takedowns. execution axe for group fights and then throw it when in duel or 1v(2-4) and start using the morning star. and also you can tank a lot of hits.
Thats funny. My favorite, best performing weapon in the game is the javelin. It might not be great for dueling, but its great for mid range supports and picking off enemies. You did not mention it, but getting hit with a javelin completely ruins your stamina. So getting hit by one mid fight pretty much ensures you will die. It is also reasonable in a fight. Allowing you to kill over confident enemies or keep them blocking and at bay until your allies arrive. With smart positioning you will keep a whole group of your teammates alive. It also has a benefit over the bow in that it will auto switch to your secondary when you throw the last one. Allowing you to be ready for that approaching knight who thinks he is getting an easy kill, but is actually arriving with half or more of his stamina gone from over blocking or getting hit. Then there is the targe. Having a extra punishing jab available is a great way to punish those who think they can just get in your face and swing mindlessly.
In general, the Javelin is extremely easy to block in competitive play. You also only receive five of them. Regarding the light shield, it breaks too quickly and is blocked easily by most competitive players.
@@SoterDave You are making a lot of assumptions with that assessment. Javs are only easy to block if you are are just flinging them with no timing or positioning...but I guess you are just going to ignore the correct usage and go off your own haphazard experience with them. Javs are also crucial for eliminating those crouching, defense focused enemies. All it takes is getting one good jav in their back and they usually fold. The light shield is great not only as a surprise throwing weapon, but to add an extra bite to your jabs. It is also important for protecting your low stamina if you get jumped. It should only be used for one conflict however and should be put away once damaged. When sheathed, it slips onto your upper arm and catches a surprisingly amount of arrows with its passive hitbox.
@@Meryle25 I promise you I did my very best to make them viable, but after numerous attempts in competitive settings, I could never get them to work properly. Just wasn't getting nearly enough kills to justify using them. As for the light shield, it's a novelty at best because although the extra jab damage is nice, the enemy will always have tons of long-range high damaging, which causes you to lose the shield quickly. Finally, there's the actual subclass. Skirmisher has super low health and stamina, which means all of your fights are generally much more difficult. Overall, you can say that I'm just making assumptions, but the fact of the matter is that in competitive play not a single person uses Skirmisher seriously to any noteworthy impact, if at all.
@@SoterDave Reading this after seeing how the majority of knights and footmen have switched to the light shields for its better walk speed, utility, and throw damage LOL Also, ranged and thrown weapons do not even damage shields...seriously, do you really just have ZERO idea what you are talking about? Shields are useful for blocking hits you are not comfortable countering. But I suppose your "I'm competitive, so I counter everything!!" mindset likes to pretend you can just counter everything and never simply block. Even if the light shield only survives one conflict, thats one conflict it helped you survive. Which is often enough for a skirmisher. Since it takes an over extender to get to you. Also arrows, shields block arrows, how the heck do you call that a novelty!? And yes, skirmisher is super low health and stamina, that is why you play them behind your allies and avoid melee unless its to support. Were you just running in like a fool as them? All classes and weapons have a place in the fight and a distance they should maintain..and here you are talking about skirmisher health and stamina as if you should be in melee often XD "Hey guys! I keep taking this archer subclass into heavy melee and I keep dying! It must suck!"- SoterDave Actually this explains a LOT of your misconceptions about your tier lists. You only believe in heavy combat. You don't even consider hit and run tactics. mid range fighting, or flank support. You are a perfect example of, "Just because someone makes videos, it does not mean they know what they are talking about."

XD yes, it gets less kills....that is because its primarily a support class! Skirmishers helps the front line wound or finish off difficult enemies quickly, protects their backs, and takes out retreating enemies. but of course your thought process goes, "I don't see big numbers, so it must be bad! If I am not getting the last hits to get credited the kills, then its practically unplayable!!" Completely ignoring how you instantly take half the health of any enemy you hit and that you are the bane of every crouch n' spin spammer....you do understand this is a team game, right? And before you say "but competitive players block it!" again, competitive players block melee too, don't they? But if you play smart you can get around it. Its the same with thrown weapons. If you know *when* to throw them, you destroy everyone. No matter how good they are, counter protection does not last forever. Also, having just 5 is plenty if you are landing your hits, retrieving your javs, and positioning well.
The awful reload animation for the crossbow puts it below war bow I think. The disadvantage of being a stationary sitting duck during reload and the way it resets your aim, negates the increased fire rate imo. The banner is its only saving grace but there are better classes to use which have the banner
On the thumb nail. The guys is holding a SICKEL. if you find that on the battle field. It will be the best weapon of all of chiv. His for 37. Faster than a punch. Interrupts openets. They can reposit and before their move is done you can hit again.
Honestly I’ve been mopping up with the skirmisher with javelin and mace; the mace just covers my ass whenever people rush me as I turn them into javelin holders 😂
cavalry sword is sick tbh, A tier for me makes Guardian and Man-at-arms much more viable in 1vX situations for me as you essentially have a mini longsword. Slap your shield on your back for those archers/crossbowmen and you can turtle your way though most 1vX without any interuptions.
can someone please enlighten me about the regular sword situation ? the data I find shows it has the same range as longsword, same damage on light swings and overhead with 10 damage less on the light stab while being all around faster, and you get noticeably better movement speed with sword ( without holding the throwing knives ) AND you get the reduced stamina drain trait. i don't understand how it's C tier and longsword is A tier. now all these very experienced people seem to value longsword much higher than sword, i'm not sure if i'm missing something, halp me understand please ! :)
Having increased stabbed damage is incredibly valuable when your weapon is stab focused. Furthermore, playing officer allows you to use the war horn and throwing knives.

ive swapped from longsword to dagger and im outdamaging Mauls. 150 dam from the rear 100 from the front. All you have to have is gud movement and timing for the special. If someone is too tough then run away and throw knives at them. Its hilarious xD
Striped sweater proved the daggers are monstrous if played right and thats the key there trash with someone does not know how play them but really good if you know how to play the ambusher class but at super high levels its probably in the right spot
I still hold the opinion that the Dagger is the worst weapon that is still considered good. I believe I can say this because to my knowledge, my team is the only one to have ever won a tournament using an Ambusher at all, and in doing so I acquired a very clear understanding of Ambusher weapons and where they stand. The Dagger is a great dueling weapon, but unfortunately in team fights it falls short to the Short Sword and even Hatchet. The one shot to the back on Footman is nice, but it doesn't make up for the downsides.

Seeing the knife go into actually bad made me a little sad, see me and the knife go back, we have history if you would. I despise being shot by archers while fighting so when it came time to level up the archer class I did so with a set of parameters. I was not allowed to do damage with the bow, unless I threw it at someone or bonked them with it unless I saw an enemy archer poking my guys from behind his lines in which I was permitted to stop him, otherwise the bow was just an incredibly bad throwable to me. I was allowed to pick up a weapon if I killed someone with my knife, fists or if I was disarmed during a fight. After becoming use to living with the fragility of an archer who charged headlong into 1vXs with a knife I found that after switching to playing normally again I felt unstoppable. it's comparable to the jump from being a knight to an MVP character. TL;DR I have an appreciation for the knife few do.

The pickaxe is a better choice for the engineer because you can pick up a shield. Also, after you use your ramp/bear trap, you can replace your secondary slot with a 1H sword, which is easy to find around some resupply boxes, which you're already gonna be going to and from. It's a good way to maximize your kit.
One more thing about engineer - if you spawn with spike trap, place 2+2 walls and spikes and you die if you respawn an engineer with bear trap you can place the other trap, while we all know the same trap gets destroyed.

You get half the reach of your other two options on engineer by using it.

Pro tip: Arrows and crossbow bolts (not sure about ballistas) can be parried, which if your skilled enough circumvents the need to have a shield to begin with.

Part of the benefit of the Poleaxe is that a lot of players can’t tell what you’re doing when you special. Many people will mistake it for an overhead in the heat of the moment and try to counter. I’ve had great success maining poleaxe and throwing out heavy stabs and overheads/specials

I just got back into chivalry again after a long while of not playing and was using the messer(I like the weapon in general so I used it I do not know if it is good or bad). Love your tier list, always a good reference to me. I don't play competitive but what i've noticed in pubs and even against good players is that alot of people have a hard time reading the Quarterstaff since there's very little people that uses it. The feints,animations and hitboxes are kind of weird on it and sometimes that can give me the upper hand when i use it.
We called that the novelty factor, and yes it plays a big part in fights against normal and competitive lobbies alike

I completely agree with the full list! My only little note at all is that, for me personally, I actually like the Dagger for 1vx fights. Weirdly enough, I've come to really appreciate the hitstop on it with its speed, cause it lets me get my block/counters up really quickly! Not to say it belongs in a different tier or anything, just an interesting observation! Thanks for all the content, it's been really helpful for my Chiv play!
The Dagger hitstop would be tolerable if at least the heavy attacks cleaved, but having hitstop on the heavy slashes is really detrimental. The Rapier has hitstop but the Rapier heavy slashes do not.
Interesting, I didn't know that since I don't use Rapier myself! And yeah, you're right and it's likely just not a great 1vX. I am biased because I love being a sneaky shithead.

Javelin should deal more stamina and shield damage. Being able to break small shields in 1 hit, medium in 2 and large in 3. That was really the whole point to pilums since they penetrate through shields and make them unwieldy. That being said, I don't think anything else about it should change since the damage is really high and it can be weapon blocked unlike arrows but being able to block it with little consequence and how much harder it is to land a hit makes it pretty bad since the reward for landing a shot isn't worth the downsides.
Unfortunately, stamina damage cannot be independent of base damage. Same with damage to shields.
I'd put Highland Sword in Redundant tier personally. Its useable, but considering as a Devastator you could always take the Great Sword instead. Way better speed an actually useful special and all you give up is slightly less damage on heavy overheads.

I agree with most of this list, and the stuff I differ on is by like a tier. Thing I like about chiv is that even with some of the worst weapons, you can give a majority of the playerbase the business if you jump into TO modes.

What made you decide to have Heavy Mace over Dane Axe? Genuinely curious, I would think the Dane Axe to be higher for its deceiving speed and range, paired with the great damage. Overall no complaints, this is a great list, thanks for putting it together.
The Heavy Mace can be used on Officer, and it has a passive stamina drain negation which helps massively. Also, the Heavy Mace has some attacks which are just as fast if not faster than the Dane Axe's fastest attacks. It also has superior draggability.
@Soter Dave Thats fair. With regards to 1vX situations I think the fact that its a blunt weapon that can't cleave and its on a less mobile class to bumps it down for me personally. I find more success playing vanguard with a cleaving weapon to help the 1vX situations. Definitely see the point though, just my opinion. Great list!
Dave would you be some what in agreement that the dane axe animations are kinda easy to read making it not as good in comp as pub? BTW my longsword....

I've been a devout war club user nearly since launch. It's so insanely fast that the alt slash can interrupt basically any attack if you're fast enough and excel properly. It's good at everything and every mode and i'm glad it's getting some love.
Yeah it's pretty great. It's often neglected because it can only be used on Devastator, which more often than not will be using the superior Greatsword. But the War Club has its own unique strengths

I would argue that the longbow synergizes better with the brazier, since more arrows = more headshots = faster brazier and also the brazier's primary purpose is the distortion effect it creates, and more arrows shot out faster means more enemies disrupted. Also more ammo means you can charge up a brazier and not have to reload before using your ability, so you don't have to play around an ammo crate all game and maximizing your uptime. You can even outplay warbow users since your stamina game is better. Just bait them into camping a corner they think you will peek while shooting at other players, and when they're finally exhausted you can peek for a safe shot. You don't need to kill a player to remove them from a fight, just bait them into focusing you while still getting value in other ways and you've effectively taken them out for free. I'm not arguing it's better than warbow, just maybe not a "redundant" weapon since it has some upsides like the brazier synergy and stamina.
At least those are my thoughts as a casual player, I wonder how this would work in comp...
At the moment, there are very few archers in competitive play that are actually competent, and none of them use the bow. They all use the Warbow or Crossbow. This is because being able to shoot more arrows and like more people on fire is comparatively worse than having the ability to one shot another Archer to the body while also having double the damage of the bow. It's too significant of a damage jump to neglect.
I do admit that it may be a bit cruel to put it in the redundant tier, but at least at the high level, bow users don't play much different from warbow users. they just get less kills.
Javs desperately need at least an archer dmg bonus modifier. I should without a doubt be able to one shot an archer with them to the chest. I think the javs also need slight flat dmg buffs for each attack, and the mini shield needs a longevity buff. Skirmisher sad :(
Skirmisher is quite sad. I agree that Javelins and Throwing Axes on Skirmisher should have increased damage against other Archers.
@Soter Dave if you had complete top down control over redesigning skirmisher, how would you handle javelins and throwing axes?
Im a half-decent rapier main, and I would heavily disagree for one main reason. The reason things like one handed Spears excel at team fights is because you can reach over your teammates head and stab enemies for good damage. And you can intercept enemies and interrupt them to play a very strong support role, with rapier, you can do the exact same thing, except instead of over their head, you go in between them, I play it like a spear during team fight, but will switch to sword-like play style in 1v1s. That’s why I think it’s so good it can play both roles.
Unfortunately it's too short to play in the way you describe, at least at a competitive level. And that's why nobody does it. I don't think it's impossible for that to be done, but it's pretty uncommon.

The stam negation nerf especially hurts for knights. Pole axe is still in my top 5. Im over level 200 and Im not bad with the Cavalry sword, but it just feels inferior to the sword and even falchion. Range focused weapons just tend to be bad compared to speed and damage focused ones. Maybe up its damage a little bit, but keep it slow. Its not chop or blunt, so I don't think it would put it in S tier. Im trying to get good with it, but I have to 4D chess knights to beat them. I perform noticeably better with the sword still and it upsets me.
As it stands currently, it is 'good enough'. I do not feel it needs to improve much, but my advice to you is to integrate more special attacks into your combos when fighting Knights. It's your strongest attack and it's surprisingly quick compared to your heavy attacks. Also understand you recieve other benefits which may be invisible to you, like longer counter windows and greater active parry timings on top of its greatest benefit, extremely easy to use cavalry attacks.

The best two handed weapons are much better options than their one handed counterparts. However, a shield can be used to 'make up for the difference'. I suggest going to break their shield if you're attempting to win duels against one handed players. For example:
Sword + Shield > Longsword > Sword
At the end of the day though, neither is stronger than the other to seriously make up for any skill difference if you're just better than them as a fighter.
I wanna point out that arrows can be parried if you know where and when they'll hit you, but this doesn't mean you can reliably do so in a fight. Since I learned it was possible I've just been doing it to scare the crap out of archers who think they can attack me uncontested.

Unpopular opinion, I love war club beacuse of how fast it is for a 2h weapon. I wish greatsword was this fast. I have ADHD or something its fustrating how slow things are. I need speed!! Historically a zwei weighing 5-6lbs was very quick, nimble, agile most games portray a greatsword like if your swinging a sledgehammer. 🧐
to be fair the Glaive shines in Defence, its speed and range allow to control crowds easily, while it wont get many kills it sure pokes a lot making the enemy atleast to back off
Unfortunately it doesn't have enough damage output to justify its usage. It's not a terrible weapon, as I didn't put it in the actually bad tier. I just don't think it's great.

@@yourmum5576 the Glaive is still a totally usable weapon! It's just not an amazing weapon. You'll also need to understand that competitive play is very different from casual play and some weapons become significantly worse against good players.
Since this video is about competitive play, and not casual, I'll have to agree with the Cudgel, but for casual, nothing beats the fear in an opponents eyes when they realize the archer they tried to ambush has one of the fastest weapons in the game, and isn't afraid to mercilessly club someone to death with it, haha.
If you're going for speed, I suggest the Knife

The war club is my favorite weapon in the whole game, especially for duels. Its so fast and its range is very long. Absolutely the best two handed blunt weapon imo. Lol I guess its bad if youre against another vanguard, but again, most players are knights.

Interesting that you place the grand mace in S-tier. A lot of people put it in low C or B tier. I‘v used it since chivalry 1 and the only thing stopping it from being OP is the blunt hit stop in this game imo
Heavy attacks go through people and do not have hitstop. Also, if someone blocks your attack, there is no hitstop.
Love the content my man, I agree with the list and I am glad you see the cavalry sword as it is, an ok-ish weapon, but that is it. I really saw a lot of Chiv 2 youtubers gush over it, but maybe because they are beasts at the game and of course they can slaughter people with it. But among one handers there are faster / harder hitting weapons and the range is nothing special at all when facing two handers which dominate team fights.
I used it plenty myself and I really feel it lacking a lot. I used the morning start after and I went on a complete tear with that. Even the falchion I feel is better, despite the lower range.
The difference between me and most Chivalry content creators is that I play competitively for most of my gameplay, so I will look at content from a competitive lens. And competitively, the Cavalry sword is just ok lol. I give it credit for its cavalry capabilities though, as they are awesome and its easily the best one handed weapon on horseback.
I think the misconception occurs because it's really easy to bully noobs with spacing and otherwise leveraging high reach. In 64 man TO I almost sort of use it like a one handed greatsword and bait swings to space and punishband this tends to be effective, but doesn't really work against good players and unlike gs the damage is extremely mid lol
@@TheArnoldification You can abuse range with far better weapons than the cavalry sword though. I allmost never see it used in TO even by experienced players. Even on duel servers it is rare to non existent in the match. And those servers have plenty of good players.

Shovel is a meme honestly, which is where it should be. Sledgehammer needs something to set it apart. The longbow and quarterstaff should be pair together to have a "yoeman" style subclass.

The Spear is still the dominant species in this land. No arguments allowed. The Halberd comes close, but most of us agree it isn't as potent as the Spear.

I’m a new player. Just came in with wave of PS players because it’s free this month.
I started using the 2h spear a few days ago and am now frequently around the top of the scoreboard. A testament to its power!
It seems to struggle in 1vX and duels.. i usually just try to create space and retreat or wait for teammates. When I can third party a fight though.. boy, does it dominate!
Is Glaive comparable? I know it does less damage, but I’d love some more attack options and the vanguard war horn.
The Glaive is significantly worse than the Spear. Still fun though and like I said, still completely viable. I wouldn't say it's like the Spear though, it's more like a variant of the Halberd.
If you want to use something similar to spear but is good in duels one handed spear and halberd are both good options
Glaive is horrible. Give the Dane axe a try for the vanguard class. Also the Maul. Once you get use to the speed you can really go on some killing sprees. Even if they block you are draining stamina and eventually they will drop their weapon.
I cant speak to the javelins efficacy, cause Ive never used them, but I can say with confidence they are extremely popular among high-level ffa players. I dont know why, but I see at least one level 200+ player using them in every ffa match I play, and I play ALOT of ffa.

Competitive players do not hold block as often, making the weapon relatively redundant
I've met some people who are actually really good with katars. They're not bad if you know what they are at it's core and how to use it. Katars are used to counter and sneak in hits while someone is swinging, it's standing special actually cancels an enemies attack and it's headbutt jab has good range. I wish they would buff the damage window width, i see myself missing alot, a jab has higher damage width than katars do. I personally don't think Katars are the 2nd worst
Keep in mind this tier list is based on competitive play, not pubs. And in competitive play, they're either the worst weapon or the second worst.
Shoutout all my cludgel users, it might be bad but i love my silly little wooden club. I once killed 5 enemies with only a cludgel 😂
I’d argue the cudgel is good specifically to the Crossbowman as an alternative to the axe.
I specifically used for fighting wounded knights and footman in a 1v1 scenario of witch I need speed and damage, of witch though the axe and hatchet beat in damage in cleave get outpaced by speed.
I cannot count the times of where I land a shot on a knight and he tanks it, starts charging only for me to whip out the cudgel and hit him once, reducing him from 1/2 to 1/4th HP in one brisk move, forcing him onto the defensive of witch I’ll mostly win due to my speed.
Useless as a sidearm for say the Ambusher or Poleman but you can be surprised by how effective it is as a sidearm for the Corssbowman in the right hands
I rather have the Axe, since it allows me to two-shot Knights and has increased range.
In reality your best weapon for fighting opponents in melee as a crossbowman is your feet.
I understand the range but the damage is traded off for speed, of witch as a crossbowman one screw up and you’re done.
The cudgel sacrifices a tad bit more damage for the speed of a shortsword and the ability to dispatch a wounded knight in three hits, 4-5 if your unlucky to fight a full one but your landing two if he’s not expecting the speed of the counters.
It’s all dependent on how you play the crossbowman really, frontlines takes the axe and snipers cudgel.
Still see why the axe is a great option for pushing points but I’m sticking to a weapon that can force a guy thinking he’s going to get a quick kill into a situation of where I control the flow of it rather then hoping for two hits to connect.
Highland Sword is better now. Man its a good day to be a HL Sword main. Also great teir list, i found it quite reasonable besides HL sword being in B teir. But thats only because im biased (:

I will never forgive torn banner for giving the huscarl and seafarer armour to footman instead of vanguard, who already has the dane axe.
Vanguard is the 'low armor' class and so wearing plate or scale armor would be confusing. Just the design they want to go with.
Wait why is vanguard low armour when they have some of the most beefiest weapons?
@@SoterDave Vanguard already has plate armour on some of the sets, and chain mail and scale armour surprising have very similar defensive properties, but honestly they should have made it a new class called Huscarl or, maybe even Drang. Give it the Dane axe, short sword and shield, spear variants, the hatchet and maybe a new axe variant, maybe even the sledge hammer.
Just a thought I had I just don’t want to sacrifice my favourite weapons for an armour set, though I do think that ffa shouldn’t be limited to classes and actually let us make our own character instead.

The highland sword is so goated, its a takedown printer. Lol I think the most people ive hit with one swing is 8, its so cool. Plus its got nice overheads for when you dont feel like causing team damage.

I think you're mistaken. This tier list is based on the competitive viability of a weapon, not how good it is in a pub. In the competitive community, Skirmisher is not effective in the slightest, and consistently underperforms.@@cprn.

Gotta disagree on the pole hammer. It has one of the highest speeds of two handed weapons, doesn’t hit block on hit, and it has one of the highest damage specials next to the Maul.

Execution axe + Morning star as a knight is so op (and you also get the Molotov). I don't understand how both are not higher on the list.
In 95% of my games (when I start from beginning) I am in 1st or 2nd spot. and I am only level 100 now (usually a lot of level 200,300,400+). and usually i have the highest takedowns.
execution axe for group fights and then throw it when in duel or 1v(2-4) and start using the morning star. and also you can tank a lot of hits.
This is based on the competitive community, not pubs. What is viable in a normal casual match compared to a competitive one is different.

VS spear has easy counters, 2/3 stab. In 1v1 you can just wait for the spear to get dropped.
Thats funny. My favorite, best performing weapon in the game is the javelin. It might not be great for dueling, but its great for mid range supports and picking off enemies. You did not mention it, but getting hit with a javelin completely ruins your stamina. So getting hit by one mid fight pretty much ensures you will die.
It is also reasonable in a fight. Allowing you to kill over confident enemies or keep them blocking and at bay until your allies arrive. With smart positioning you will keep a whole group of your teammates alive.
It also has a benefit over the bow in that it will auto switch to your secondary when you throw the last one. Allowing you to be ready for that approaching knight who thinks he is getting an easy kill, but is actually arriving with half or more of his stamina gone from over blocking or getting hit.
Then there is the targe. Having a extra punishing jab available is a great way to punish those who think they can just get in your face and swing mindlessly.
In general, the Javelin is extremely easy to block in competitive play. You also only receive five of them. Regarding the light shield, it breaks too quickly and is blocked easily by most competitive players.
@@SoterDave You are making a lot of assumptions with that assessment. Javs are only easy to block if you are are just flinging them with no timing or positioning...but I guess you are just going to ignore the correct usage and go off your own haphazard experience with them. Javs are also crucial for eliminating those crouching, defense focused enemies. All it takes is getting one good jav in their back and they usually fold.
The light shield is great not only as a surprise throwing weapon, but to add an extra bite to your jabs. It is also important for protecting your low stamina if you get jumped. It should only be used for one conflict however and should be put away once damaged. When sheathed, it slips onto your upper arm and catches a surprisingly amount of arrows with its passive hitbox.
@@Meryle25 I promise you I did my very best to make them viable, but after numerous attempts in competitive settings, I could never get them to work properly. Just wasn't getting nearly enough kills to justify using them. As for the light shield, it's a novelty at best because although the extra jab damage is nice, the enemy will always have tons of long-range high damaging, which causes you to lose the shield quickly. Finally, there's the actual subclass. Skirmisher has super low health and stamina, which means all of your fights are generally much more difficult.
Overall, you can say that I'm just making assumptions, but the fact of the matter is that in competitive play not a single person uses Skirmisher seriously to any noteworthy impact, if at all.

Shields are useful for blocking hits you are not comfortable countering. But I suppose your "I'm competitive, so I counter everything!!" mindset likes to pretend you can just counter everything and never simply block. Even if the light shield only survives one conflict, thats one conflict it helped you survive. Which is often enough for a skirmisher. Since it takes an over extender to get to you.
Also arrows, shields block arrows, how the heck do you call that a novelty!?
And yes, skirmisher is super low health and stamina, that is why you play them behind your allies and avoid melee unless its to support. Were you just running in like a fool as them? All classes and weapons have a place in the fight and a distance they should maintain..and here you are talking about skirmisher health and stamina as if you should be in melee often XD

Actually this explains a LOT of your misconceptions about your tier lists. You only believe in heavy combat. You don't even consider hit and run tactics. mid range fighting, or flank support.

As if getting credited for kills is the only justification for using a weapon! XD
yes, it gets less kills....that is because its primarily a support class! Skirmishers helps the front line wound or finish off difficult enemies quickly, protects their backs, and takes out retreating enemies.
but of course your thought process goes, "I don't see big numbers, so it must be bad! If I am not getting the last hits to get credited the kills, then its practically unplayable!!"
Completely ignoring how you instantly take half the health of any enemy you hit and that you are the bane of every crouch n' spin spammer....you do understand this is a team game, right?
And before you say "but competitive players block it!" again, competitive players block melee too, don't they? But if you play smart you can get around it. Its the same with thrown weapons. If you know *when* to throw them, you destroy everyone. No matter how good they are, counter protection does not last forever. Also, having just 5 is plenty if you are landing your hits, retrieving your javs, and positioning well.

The awful reload animation for the crossbow puts it below war bow I think. The disadvantage of being a stationary sitting duck during reload and the way it resets your aim, negates the increased fire rate imo. The banner is its only saving grace but there are better classes to use which have the banner
On the thumb nail. The guys is holding a SICKEL. if you find that on the battle field. It will be the best weapon of all of chiv. His for 37. Faster than a punch. Interrupts openets. They can reposit and before their move is done you can hit again.

What's about the siege crossbow? I think it is in redundant tier because much slower reload but +15 damage. This reload speed not worth 15 damage buff
They just recently improved it by fixing its passive. I now consider it A-S tier for it's ability to break banners.

cavalry sword is sick tbh, A tier for me makes Guardian and Man-at-arms much more viable in 1vX situations for me as you essentially have a mini longsword. Slap your shield on your back for those archers/crossbowmen and you can turtle your way though most 1vX without any interuptions.

can someone please enlighten me about the regular sword situation ? the data I find shows it has the same range as longsword, same damage on light swings and overhead with 10 damage less on the light stab while being all around faster, and you get noticeably better movement speed with sword ( without holding the throwing knives ) AND you get the reduced stamina drain trait. i don't understand how it's C tier and longsword is A tier.
now all these very experienced people seem to value longsword much higher than sword, i'm not sure if i'm missing something, halp me understand please ! :)
Having increased stabbed damage is incredibly valuable when your weapon is stab focused. Furthermore, playing officer allows you to use the war horn and throwing knives.

yeah the 10 damage difference on stab is pretty significant i thought it was 5 at the moment of writing and edited later.
and yeah you get sword on officer too, i usually run around with my sword and pick up a spear/halberd for big teamfights, it works nicely for me tbh x)

ive swapped from longsword to dagger and im outdamaging Mauls. 150 dam from the rear 100 from the front. All you have to have is gud movement and timing for the special. If someone is too tough then run away and throw knives at them. Its hilarious xD

Striped sweater proved the daggers are monstrous if played right and thats the key there trash with someone does not know how play them but really good if you know how to play the ambusher class but at super high levels its probably in the right spot
I still hold the opinion that the Dagger is the worst weapon that is still considered good. I believe I can say this because to my knowledge, my team is the only one to have ever won a tournament using an Ambusher at all, and in doing so I acquired a very clear understanding of Ambusher weapons and where they stand.
The Dagger is a great dueling weapon, but unfortunately in team fights it falls short to the Short Sword and even Hatchet. The one shot to the back on Footman is nice, but it doesn't make up for the downsides.

Haven’t watched the tier list yet but I hope my pickaxe ranks high it’s just fun to use.
Seeing the knife go into actually bad made me a little sad, see me and the knife go back, we have history if you would.
I despise being shot by archers while fighting so when it came time to level up the archer class I did so with a set of parameters.
I was not allowed to do damage with the bow, unless I threw it at someone or bonked them with it unless I saw an enemy archer poking my guys from behind his lines in which I was permitted to stop him, otherwise the bow was just an incredibly bad throwable to me.
I was allowed to pick up a weapon if I killed someone with my knife, fists or if I was disarmed during a fight.
After becoming use to living with the fragility of an archer who charged headlong into 1vXs with a knife I found that after switching to playing normally again I felt unstoppable. it's comparable to the jump from being a knight to an MVP character.
TL;DR
I have an appreciation for the knife few do.
