The larger design leaves more volume onboard for a whale tank.

We have seen cloaking devices as semi-portable objects that can be transplanted into ships not specifically designed for them. That would suggest that the cloaking ring on standard birds of prey are an ancillary element, perhaps to help reduce the energy cost.

It wouldn't surprise me if by this point in history, Klingon engineering has gotten to the point where they can more reliably generate and maintain higher rates of constant power... if you were Klingons, what would you do then? Reinforce the tactical shields and start mounting more disrupter cannons to the hull. I'd bet that this refit is pretty much KDF standard at this point.

If i were a Klingon, I would reverse the polarity of the neutron flow, thereby causing a molecular reaction to the atomic byproducts of the protonic fusion, that will in turn increase the temperature to an optimum 337 degrees celsius, which will generate a lubasonic energy field that can be trapped, directed and processed into a circular energy channel that recycles itself at the sub-atomic level by creating transparent matter, which will positively burn the knickers off of every Klingon scientist who were stumped in the first place....
This will solve any and all power limitations therein, as it were. Kronos will be the next Las Vegas.
      You're Welcome.

Could this be a result of the Dominion war? The Klingon needs a version of the Defiant, smaller more heavily armed fighter.

The return of klingon with klingon bird of prey science vessel 😊

Maybe some of those spikey bits arw not weapons but sensor arrays. It could be a science variant of a bird of prey.

I think it was just a warship but refitted as a lab. Going a long way out of the Empire on its own for decades then being heavily armed isnt really a detriment and the larger ramp helps with loading and unloading the lab equipment.

The cloaking ring could be there and covered with additional armor. The lower armor panel on the nose is large enough to accommodate it.

Larger & with additional wing--root disruptors = this is QuD (Insurrection) class from Klingon Academy!

it could be a science ship. An Intel Science Ship. that large ramp could allow for a small vehicle...

Huh. We know this is a different BoP, because it has a "nose gear". Are we sure it's B'rel sized? Though that landing ramp size.... Maybe it's slightly taller/longer, but yeah, I could see it being somewhat closer to B'rel size. Maybe the size difference is like that of the movie BoP compared to ENT BoP?
Klingon science ships need more guns because they follow the Indiana Jones school of science, and thus need to be able to shoot their way out of what they get into.

I didn't know that the red ring was for cloaking, I just thought it was for plasma.

If the titan cloaked without a cloaking ring using an older bird of prey cloak, why would this need a cloaking ring?

What's with the nose gear? The original didn't need it as it sat very heavily on the main body? Also no raised wings when landed?

The rear firing BoP photorp is canon from DS9. It fired on the chasing Defiant in one scene. Back then, everybody laughed, now whos laughing? XD

By the time of Prodigy, it's more than decades. It's a century old.

no thanks, I'll take my kor class bird of prey on sto. This ship reminds me of a really great saying. "The wind does not respect a fool and neither do I"
