Dale, we thank you and the crew for doing such a great job. Everyone was very professional to work with and the finished projected is way better than we envisioned.
Firstly love your videos! Kudos to you and your team for the work put into creating them! I’m based out of Sarasota Florida and called to see if y’all do work down this way but understandably heard y’all don’t. I found a local dock company and showed them this video as my land is similar to the landscape in the video. The local company said they can do it but I am concerned they aren’t using a strong enough/correct filter cloth. Would you mind sharing the specs on what filter cloth they should be using so I can double check they are using the right material? Appreciate the help so much!
Thank you so much for watching my channel. Sorry so late getting back to you. I hope you are the gentleman that I helped out with the email and I hope your project turned out great.
Hey dale what are the dep florida ,etc regs if you have mangroves along an old wall, do they allow you to place rip rap amongst the mangroves? i'm sure you can't just dump them...what do you guys do in those cases? lightly dumping them in with an excavator? does that even work, if sheet pile isn't an option. (specific use case is 3 1/2 wall exposed calm river frontage). If you have mature and lots mangrove growth providing almost your entire privacy on multiple sides , would rocks placed amongst mangroves over time be better or would cutting the roots for sheet pile at the face of old wall with a steel panel (or digging them with an excavator) do less damage in your experience. Biggest fear i have is oh new wall but now being the center of attention loss of privacy due to the unique nature of the property with it's sold privacy being provided by mangroves.
Thanks for watching my channel and your question sorry I cannot be of much help with mangroves I live in the Florida panhandle right next to mobile Al. We don’t have those up here thank God. I deal with a lot of white sand. Good luck with your project.
Awesome videos dale. My name is Charlie Carpenter. I run Gulf and bay marine. We are marine contractors in st Pete Fl We are racing our sailboat up to Pensacola middle of march. I’m sure you are extremely busy but It would be great to meet you and pick your brain on some marine building topics. Let me know if we could take you to lunch or something that worked for you.
My home is on the marsh of the SC coast (the ocean is visible but there is a peninsula that separates us now. Can I use rip rap instead of he timbers I have now. We do have king tides and hurricanes that push water into the yard but not with any regularity--maybe every other year or so?
Thanks for watching my channel and your comment larger class two and class three style size riprap is some of the best wave braking action to use. We use a lot of it down here on our bees and intercoastal waterways.
Hey Nick, thanks for watching my videos. It is a filter. We’ve erosion control cloth not a ground cover that you would use for weeds. Very tough stuff.
Would that size rocks meet minimum code if it was use to rip rap vinyl piling with the manta ray anchor on a sandy shore line with crashing waves such as the haulover inlet?
Thanks for watching a video and if you have a pretty active shoreline, I would use a minimum of class two to class three they haven’t even have some bigger ones for extremely active in eroding shorelines
Thanks for watching I like to form a pocket with the filter cloth closest to the beach and fold it back on top of itself with some rock on the inside so when the saying is washed out underneath, it falls down to prevent erosion underneath the cloth
@@DaleWHickman Thank you for your response. We had a company install Riprap and we were told the excess material would bury itself in the sand over time. It's been five years and the sand has not buried it. There are holes and some areas that have torn due to the wave action.
Doug, thanks for checking out my page. If you’re in the local area, please give our office a call we’ll be happy to get you a quote. I don’t like sharing prices online for local competition. 👍👍

What is the material used behind the rock for soil retention?

The retention cloth under the rocks closest to the water, do you cut it off?
