A worker's husband was a middle school vice-principal and he told her that girls thinking they were dying because they had their first period was a weekly occurrence.
One of my 10 year-old students asked me if he could get a girl pregnant. I frowned and said, "Of course not, not at your age". He responded with, "Oh thank goodness." We started health and hygiene immediately afterwards. During the class, one of the students asked if he had an STD and had sex with a girl, that she'd have the STD and he wouldn't - sort of "tag, you're it". I corrected that one, plus many others.
I have a horrible memory of when I was just 11/12 and getting my period, and occasionally having some other stuff happen. I wrote a question for the anonymous box and it never got answered... but thinking back on it I likely had a yeast infection and had NO idea of how to even ask for help with it. Miserable time. And I live in a country where you get real education
as a german with mendatory sex ad in school this always blows my mind.
why wouldn't you want to educate your kid on these things? And most times the parents do not educate their kids either. sex ed and saving yourself does not cancel each other out
I agree. My mother received a book (1930s) when she got engaged. She had the foresight to pass it on to me when I was about 11. That book amazingly covered more than my high school health class did.
I only learned about sex stuff from like the internet. I'm 19 and still was not given the talk from my parents or school.
That first teacher could have just said "It's warm, but not hot." and be done with it.
Or "It comes out at body temp, like urine does."
Me and my brother knew how babies was made when we was small children. Our folks told us early. Both was working in farming, with dairy cattle, so they explained how babies come to be thanks to the animals. I work in farming now myself. I see piglets suck teets when hungry. Same with calves. When I see a woman breastfeed in public I see it as natural. The child needs to eat right? It is the same thing as me eating a sandwich in public! I have always seen this as natural thanks to my upbringing and work!
That's the way! Nothing taboo about any of it, just biology.
When I was a kid a friend's mom got upset when another girl told her daughter about periods. I think we were about 8. Why WOULDN'T you want your daughter to know what's going to happen? Geez. I wasn't really involved so I never heard her reasoning and I still don't get it.
True. I've heard stories where girls were never told about menstruation by their mothers. When they get their period for the first time, they freak out and think that they are dying!
I started actively listening again at, "Do wrinkly old men have wrinkly babies?"
I
wat
18:42 "that's where crack babies come from." I shouldn't be laughing at that.
My heart hurts for those taught abstinence only and those who donât teach, fearing that knowledge leads to activity. In the 1932 book Sex and Marriage, there is a sad story about a girl who wasnât taught about sex. Think about the era in which this had to have happened. Her mother stated that âYouâll learn from your husband on your wedding night, and what you have to suffer.â Well the girl got pregnant. She stated that she went out in the woods on a picnic, and the boy did âsomething that just didnât seem ârightâ, but she trusted him, so she let himâ. I was sad, reading that in the 1970s, and itâs stuck with me. It still saddens me.
When I was in 4th grade we went to the school one evening to watch a movie about the âbirds & the beesâ etc. Girls and boys were separate. Maybe on different days? I went there with my mom, her friend, & her friendâs daughter who was close to my age. Otw there she was quizzing me about things & asked if I knew what a âperiodâ was. I said it was punctuation at the end of a sentence. It was a peer and a movie that I learned about menstruation from. I was in 7th or 8th grade when I learned the definition of âmasturbation.â I was living in a small town, southern Bible Belt area at the time. ðĪĶââïļ
We didn't get the education regarding periods till we were Sophomores in HS. It was a film and was so badly done that we labled it "Susy Slopbucket grows up." That name was passed on and it was labled that till it was updated.
Ok my brain is still trying to wrap my head around the birth control story
Me too, but for more than one reason. So I'm listening to videos from this channel on auto play as I fold laundry, and this video comes on. Keep in mind I haven't looked at my phone and am only listening so I haven't read the video title yet. As I listen I become increasingly confused as to why all the "Life Skills" stories are about $Äx education, because when I went to school and went to a class titled "Life Skills", it was about cooking, sanitation, interpersonal relationships, and DIY home tasks/repairs.
Very conservative school district in Texas. "Life skills" class didn't exist. In one 5th grade class meeting in the cafeteria/gym, we had a lecture about male and female anatomy mostly about the differences. No discussions. No questions. Just basic anatomy. In high school we had a health class that spent most of the year primarily with the skeletal system. In senior year we had an elective class (not mandatory, and we mostly took it for an easy A) "Home and Family Life" where we were taught cooking bread and pizzas, budgeting, wedding planning and had 2 videos. One video was about dying from drug use. The other was a hardcore Duggar-family live birth to show the painful experience of having a baby, up front in your face up the vagina experience. I think that childbirth video gave many female class members pause. I don't remember any unplanned, teen pregnancies from that class. Traumatizing.
Texas native here
Can confirm but I never got that education
Even now as a 20 year old I don't fully understand ððð
Yep. Back in high school in the 70s, we got to watch a film like that. It made me physically ill and I had to look away. I didn't want kids before that, and absolutely nothing I've learned about pregnancy and childbirth since EVER changed my mind.
It makes me wonder how is it that animals know how to mate without being taught how to do it, but us humans have to be educated to do the do?
The answer: They have to fuck around (heh) and find out, just like a lot of humans do! Some animals just cannot figure out which hole they're supposed to stick it in without a _lot_ of trial and error.
sex disgusts me, and it was torture to be in sex ed. I am never going to do the deed.
Real.
I remember in I think high school it couldâve been middle school Iâm almost positive it was hs where I was talking with a teacher in their office and a girl came up and showed us a baby. It was a cute baby. At the time I diddnt put two and two together but then later I realized thatâs why my high school had a nursery and daycare. Really supportive school to have that.
Donât be fooled Rosevelt high in Portland Oregon has shit special ed. Some of it was nice some of it came out of anass
"I thought you just put it in and waited a bit." ððð Charger moment
Every man I knew had only 2 kids .. reminds me of an old joke.. Man to the bartender .. "I wager we got 5 balls together" - Bartender looks astounded " What? You only got ONE?"
And again I'm amazed how dumb the genuine 'murican is... My first pills in years got a 1 - 0 - 0 and 1 - 0 - 1 from the pharmacist as a note .. describing how many I should take in the morning, at noon and in the evening. She even left off the possibility of having to take one at going to bed (~ midnight). How to take them was obvious. Nobody in their right mind would stick a regular pill in any place else than their mouth with a sip of water.
When I was a kid, I used to believe the âgirls pee in their padsâ thing as well.
It probably has something to do with my mother calling her pads âmommyâs diapersâ for some strange reason when I was really young. ðĪ·ââïļ
Thankfully I know better now.
When I was teaching, 4 or 5 girls every year would come of age and not know why it was bleeding, That's only the one I had to deal with before passing it on to a female teacher.
My sex-ed was basically a bootleg prono DVD. Happy birthday, here's a DVD.
9:06 Given what their supreme court did a few weeks ago, declaring that embryos for IVF are children under the law (which as written, is correct reasoning), I think we're on to square -2 or maybe even -10.
I knew a woman who grew up in communist China. She told me how nobody was told anything about their bodies. When she had her first period, she thought that she was dying. When it was explained to her that this happens to all women, she was shocked that imperial princesses had them as well and that no healthy women escapes the monthly messes.
Later, when she was married for the first time, her husband wanted what she described as "horrible disgusting things!" and refused to let him touch her in bed for nearly a year. She finally confessed to a friend how "disgusting" her husband was. The friend assured her that what her husband wanted to do was a good thing and it was how babies come to be.
Boiling Hot Spludge, what does he think he is made of? ð
The Alien documentary! ð
My parents didn't want sex ed being taught in school! They thought if the gutter was good enough for them....!
20:55 Many fundie kids are told or just assume that god made some sort of special method for human conception that is different than how animals do it. I distinctly remember watching an interview with a girl who grew up in a polygamist cult and learned how it worked from a book at a friend's house, and she cried because it was the same way animals do it.
Genuine question: What's incorrect about the "two rubbers/condoms is better than one" bit? Like -- is it that it can cut circulation to the penis? Is it that the second condom can get lost in the vagina? Why ISN'T it better to use two instead of one?
(I plan on _never_ having sex, full stop, so it's not _actually_ relevant knowledge for me; but I'd rather have my own misconceptions corrected than to live in ignorance)
Because they can rub against each other and break.
@@ResidentMilf ah, yeah that makes sense. Thanks!
I thought life skills were about things like finances, cooking and home repair skills not puberty and sex ed. We always just called it reproductive health class.
So when the babyâs big enough youâll just poop it out right *goes to add* even the video has to take a moment
i had a teacher tell us that our vaginas and the boys penis' will fall off if you leave and STI untreated.

The best Muslim teacher in this subject on You tube is Ustaz Azhar Idrus... he debunked these misconception with a nonchalant and funny attitude, without being too vulgar about the subject.
The videos always have plenty of views, and I recommend it for Muslims, as he always explained in view of Feqah and syara'.
The catch is, it's in Malay, but with new technology, maybe you can have auto translate to help you understand.
I thought I was a hermaphrodste too and I was thrilled. Nope. Just a regular female born. (Iâm stilll not a girl generals donât determine gender)
