Had Trump be the one in control and resistant to Putin in the private meeting, he would likely have a more confident case when dealing with questions.

Putin did not hesitate and started his answer with the word: "Da". I'm sure a lot of people, including myself, know that the translation for "Da" is "YES", and he followed with other words I didn't have to hear. It's clear as a bell, "Da."
