I have four classes of up to 15 students in each class. Their levels are anywhere from kindergarten to grade 5 based on iReady. I have them for 55 minutes each day of the school week. It sounds like you either pull out groups or push into classes. Can you give me any suggestions as to how I might go about working with students effectively given my schedule?

Hi! Thanks for your comment. In my role as a literacy coach, I work primarily with teachers, but I teach one section each year of ELA and also teach during our school’s universal intervention block for 40 minutes daily to a small group of struggling readers. Being a middle school coach, I don’t feel as qualified to give advice about elementary aged students, but I wish you the best of luck!

Would you recommend these strategies for a 6th grade resource ELA classroom? How would you recommend working these strategies into regular instruction? How often? I only have a 65 class period.

      Hi Rebecca,
I'm not sure if you do small group reading instruction with students during your class period, but it would be great to incorporate some of these strategies in during this time, especially for students who are struggling readers. These strategies would be best during a universal intervention/WIN time. I have also posted on social media about using fluency and comprehension practices as part of your daily classroom routines. These are quick routines that can be easily incorporated. My Instagram is @kasey_kiehl
