      Lots of people getting into Summer Tubbing thanks to the Aquarium Co-op channel and Master Breeder Dean.
      It would be really awesome to see summer tubs (150 L to 800 L) made out of recycled plastic, to show off various plants as well as the fish/shrimp that are being grown/bred in the summer tubs.

    You guys really ought to try my press. It has all the benefits of direct heat, actively clamps during the process, and can be set to the side while cooling so your oven can roll right into heating another press. It's monumentally less labor. And you're only using $8 in springs instead of an entire bottle jack.

    • @MaryAnnNytowl
      @MaryAnnNytowl ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I will certainly look over what you have. However, if you get hold of a working bottle jack at an auction for $2, it makes a difference. 😏

    • @inventtory1272
      @inventtory1272 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MaryAnnNytowl That's a nice find but can still only handle one at a time. Since my devices is both the press and the clamp I can pull them out of the oven to cool and load up the whole new set. What they lack in size they make up for in speed, ease-of-use, and a consistently lower price without getting lucky.

    A candy hook might be a good tool for the stretching and twisting of the combined plastics. Lofty Pursuits does this in a lot of their videos (except with molten sugar).

  • @inventtory1272
    @inventtory1272 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I sort HDPE into 3 categories by their viscosity:
    -Thick, or blow molded as you mentioned. This includes things like milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, and most household containers.
    -Thin, or injection molded as you mentioned. Which can be anything from paint buckets, hard hats, milk and soda crates, Ice cream containers, and even some large storage totes. This also includes Type #4. LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene.) Which is more than likely what you're bottle caps actually are. And this also includes MDPE medium density polyethylene (Sometimes labeled as type 3 because the resin sorting system just awful) MDPE can be found most often as a packing material. It's melts beautifully too.
    -Grocery Bags. These get their own category because of additives that make them even thicker than blow molding and also fibrous. They melt really well, and the thin layers let you do some neat tricks. Unfortunately it CNC's with a terrible finish, and hitting it with a heat gun makes it worse.

    seeing you twist the molten plastic reminded me of candy pulling. I wonder if it's possible to do plastic pulling? It would probably make the plastic much weaker, as the point of pulling candy is to introduce air bubbles but it would be interesting to see if it's possible.
