    There was a myth buster YT vid on whether or not it makes any difference if you “cook” the eggshells. Apparently it doesn’t if you simply air dry the shells. Grinding them to a powder was recommended to extract all the locked up calcium. So I don’t “cook” my eggshells and use Apple Cider vinegar and the difference when combined with a dash of dolomite lime and iron sulphate has been great on my plants.

      The cooking is just meant to remove to carbonize the organic matter. Therefore, it will not react (breakdown and ferment) in the extraction process via vinegar (acetic acid)). The main benefit is that the calcium acetate solution will have a far greater shelf life, as it will be purer.

      Couldn't you still just do this in a much more controlled way in an oven? @@penpuncher

    • @penpuncher
      @penpuncher 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably, I haven't tried. Main thing to avoid is to reach high enough temperatures where the calcium that you want carbonizes (like bone char). Idk if the oven probably doesn't even get to that temp. Sounds like it'd be worth trying. If you have organic matter, it will still make a good nutrient solution, maybe just smell in some months(?).@@taiiiz3969

    So Calcium Acetate. A very good Calcium fix soil amendment for tomato blossom end rot. I made my Calcium Acetate with distilled white vinegar and calcium carbonate rock, but I like the use of egg shells or any kind of shell waste rather than seeing it go to a landfill. Though it is a gray area on if this technically would still count as organic farming, I still think it would be fine. But a word of warning, molds are able to utilize acetates as a growing media, so if you condense them down, make sure they are dry. Also just do not heat up calcium acetate to hot while drying as it was originally used to make acetone and calcium carbonate.

    Hey bud best way to get rid of the membrane is when you use the egg just run so hot water in the inside and then you can peel the membrane out.

    Technically, the extractration was done with the week of the shells in vinegar. The last process was just filtering. You could extract again probably with the debris at 5:1

      Herbalist Susun Weed suggests making a mix she calls 'Old Soup Puss' using egg shells, vinegar, and bone supporting herbs (Menopausal Years - 1992)
      Herbal options include: yellow dock (leaves and roots), dandelion (leaves and roots), nettle, plantain (leaves), raspberry (leaves, canes, berries), mugwort (leaves), comfrey (leaves, flowers), red cover (flowers) and/ or egg shells. Quart jar: fill with plant matter and crushed shells, let sit 6 weeks.
      Use 1 Tbsp/ cup water, add to soups and bean dishes, in salad dressing, etc

      The main difference is that brown rice vinegar is slightly more nutritious and it's darker because the rice hasn't been polished. They are both fermented vinegar so I'd say it should work just fine.

    • @chmchn
      @chmchn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same could be said about the trace chemicals found in the water you use in your garden. Isn't it coming from a treatment plant? Or the plastics and metals you use to dig or cut your plants. You know they are treated too right?
      There is no 100% chemical way to garden or farm, we try to reduce it at best.
