WOW!!! THANKS FOR THIS GREAT, HELPFUL, DEMO TUTORIAL!!! I NEEDED TO KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH THIS SIDING, BEFORE I INSTALL A NEW WATER HEATER VENT, THRU MY SIDING...PERHAPS YOU COULD DO ANOTHER DEMO VIDEO, ON HOW TO DO MINOR REPAIRS, OR REPLACEMENT, OR CAREFUL REMOVAL, OF VINYL SIDING,...?!
Nice job there are other ways to overlap and miter your outside corners on your j around your windows that are a little more of a nicer finish than just butting the j with squat cuts🤔
Can you use a pan head screw like a cabinet screw to put on siding the kind with washer type head and about 1/4 inch of screw near head has no threads so it slides in hot and cold.
Great info! I will be doing this on my home as well. My first time. A couple of Questions, why didnt you use a tyvek or home wrap over the foam board? Can I use foam board instead of plywood? Can I mix foam board and plywood (if some plywood is bad)
The foam board replaced the house wrap with some r value I prefer thin fan fold foam so you get to work with a flat surface. On this particular job the house was not insulated so I wanted to use even thicker foam then normal. You can do it good luck
If you have a vinyl corner post it should have a channel built inside so it does not need j channel. Your starter strip and finish strip can go inside your corner
Hi, when you started from the bottom I didn't see you using start piece instead you have used j channel?? Also you did not use enough nails, nails should be used between 3-4 holes you nail one??
I use j channel around the porch since it was existing. I explained all this in the video. you may have only seen me nail in one nail I cut out all the video of nailing because it is long and dragged out process
You put a j channel down if you’re butting the siding up to a horizontal flat surface such as a deck. This insures that with water will run away from your rim joist. If you put a starter strip there, water running off the siding could potentially get into the joist and rot it.
You did such a phenomenal job explaining this for somebody who’s never done it. Thank you so so so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful! Now I am more comfortable to finish my siding project.
great I am glad I could help. good luck with your project

Yes there is always more then one way to do things
Great job explaining
Dog pee? Roosters? Love your projects Jay - Bob said that would have taken him at least a month, and the mangled supplies would be deep!
Well the project has been ready to start for almost a year so I understand
Hi pp
Love the T-shirt! :)

I suppose you could do that

Also do not substitute foam for plywood this will make your walls weak
@@JaysToDoList Thanks for the info and quick reply!
@@shot_by_su_6078 any time
@@JaysToDoList Also, what size j channel did you use as the "starter strip"
Really helpful !n Thank you.
Does the j channel go inside the corner post or butt next to it? Thanks!
If you have a vinyl corner post it should have a channel built inside so it does not need j channel. Your starter strip and finish strip can go inside your corner
is your J sticking out past the windows? What is behind the foam board, did you have to fur the wall out any? did you wrap the windows or ?
Old wood siding is behind the foam board indid not fur out the wall the windows got wrapped the video shows you how to install channel

Is the j-channel 3/4" or 1/2"?
This was done a long time ago. But I think it was 5/8
