@thefixerhomerepair I really enjoyed the first two videos. I am glad to see you fix the siding it was bugging me. In the fullness of time I could see you residing the house entirely. But that isnt nearly as important as ensuring the house is insulated. Also, if you can get solar panels on the roof. We got ours a few years ago and it was the best decision we ever made.
Matt you are so good at demonstrating and explaining how to properly repair all the finicky nuisance home projects, that I recommend your channel to a lot of the other channels I watch. Especially DIY young couples just starting out. Everyone needs a mentor when they become a home owner and you are the Best IMO. ❤ Love from Indiana. 👍
You always make everything look so easy. That’s how I know you are good at what you do. Also, I’ve never seen you work so fast in your life like at the end of the video with the rain. You always take your time with your projects. Great job!!
Came over to catch the whole thing. I helped with vinyl siding in the nineties and this is an awesome refresher course. Snug not tight for one is important. And I forgot what liner to use underneath. Thank you for this!! Hope to be able to do this soon, and have as much fun as you did. 🤣
Thanks for sharing the bloopers. I just did a similar repair in my house, I replaced rotted boards framing the garage and slight remodel that required removing siding and J channels. Everything you experienced I did as well GRRR. 😂 feeling good after seeing your bloopers and now thinking I didn’t do so bad for my first repair/remodel of this kind. 👍👍
Appreciate all your videos and especially how I need to repair a few pieces of vinyl as well, this video was amazing! Tips like the way water runs helps! Thank you for putting out great content and explaining it all with great video work.
Used to install siding back in my pre college days. We house wrapped everything. Really makes me laugh at the fact that previous guys put up house wrap on door and didn’t run a simple small spot next to the door 😂 cheers mate! Love the videos
Looks so much better! I have to fill in holes in my vinyl siding from little rocks thrown further lawnmower. Unfortunately, I have no extra siding. Very interesting video. Not something I'd want to attempt! Can't believe they didn't completely wrap the house😮
This is just a thought. If you can, consider using a piece of siding from a less visible side of the house to match up with what you have for the front of the house. And put the new piece on the less visible spot if possible
Great video thank you for taking the time to make it. I have to repair two pieces of J channel and was dreading it but your video showed it can be done. Keep it up.
i love the part when you said it's frustrating. i can tell i will say that many time if i was doing this project. it definitely take a lot of energy on the pulling and hammering.
I agree I also I hate doing siding. However that is a strange situation you have there with the landscape and the siding. I would change something so water is not coming in contact with the siding / wall of the structure. They also sell special house wrap tape that works amazing at sealing together house wrap.
Keeping it real with the "B" roll, I love it, and I'm glad you do it. Plus it makes me laugh. Great work! I also have vinyl siding, Same color same type. I probably don't have house wrap either, I hate it. There are area of concern here and there, but I'm not sure if I'm going to tackle it. Thank you for showing me how though.
Back in 1999 when my house was built there was a conversation and theory about houses being too tight. Not breathing so to speak. So my house never had house wrap or tyvek, but I have done many siding repairs over the years and nothing looks as bad as one would suspect except for ladybugs. When I do repairs I of course add where I can without residing the whole house. It is due though.
We had some original siding in our attic and it only took a season for it to fade to match the house. Siding was probably at least 15 years old. Don't be afraid if the color match isn't great straight off.
Another blooper reel that would probably do well on TikTok if you cut it up into at least three videos. I know that "if you have friends, I don't" bit would work great as a sound on there.
I had a segment that I had to insert in the middle of a wall because there was a hole that had been drilled through for a pipe that came out for a vent and we removed the vent and eliminated it and I put new plywood in and that was no problem The plywood on the outside I couldn't get in at all. Now that I've watched your video I might try again I definitely don't have one of those little tools and I think that was probably my problem. But not till next year. Too many things left to fix up before winter set in in Maine.
@@TheFixerHomeRepairI haven't watched the whole video yet so if you have already said this but what is your favorite choice for value. The least expensive that you think is halfway decent
i'm honestly so surprised siding that's a year younger than me is so flexible, it just looks like something that'd snap, but well *the more you know* i learn so much terminology on here lol
I don't even know why i am watching this, my house is built out of bricks haha. Still its good entertainment! :) Love your can do attitude and make it work with some common sense Lmao 38:10 😂😂
As always, thanks for sharing your skills. Now, onto more important things, is that your hose or the neighbours hose on the fence? Either way, can we move it?
I would like to make a video request. Would you make a video on your ryobi tools and which ones you have and why you like them. I’m thinking of switching brands to ryobi but there’s to many horror stories out there on there tools. But I also know they come along ways from were they use to be.
i would think that siding is newer than you might think. if i did that with the siding on my house it would crack and shatter and be junk, believe me i found that out trying to do some repairs around a window. course my siding is 30 some years old
I wonder if there was a window there that was covered or something. Or maybe the mold was worse and that's the only place they replaced the plywood and not the tyvek
I could see that happening but as it turns out it was just left off during construction. This was also a modular house that they built somewhere else and then plopped it there and bolted it together. Wonder if that had anything to do with it. 🤔
Is there a convincing argument for using vinyl over aluminum siding, hardieplank, cement board, etc. when building a house, besides cost? Not sure about the new stuff, but older vinyl siding doesn't seem to last very long before it starts to degrade, crack, and generally become a menace.

The bloopers really make these kinds of home improvement projects look so much more relatable. It's rare when a project goes too smoothly...
I try to keep it real. 😀👍
The poor shades haha!
@@slim_cana 😩😂
In my old house smoothly never happens. The air is always blue during projects.😂😂
B-roll is gold and more realistic than what others would show. Thanks for including it!

Hey! I really appreciate that! Thanks so much!
Dude! You just taught me everything I needed to know about siding.....then the out takes taught me everything I was afraid I knew. Great video
Thanks for the B roll. Home improvement videos always make it look so easy. Seeing the B roll gives me a better idea of what I can expect.
You are a patient man and thank you for this video.
Thank you for making videos that will almost guarantee to make tasks like this more approachable for people!
I really hope they do! Thanks for watching!
Really nice job! Glad you pointed out that you "hang" siding rather than firmly nailing it to allow for expansion, contraction and movement.
Loved the bloopers! Shows us what we can really expect.
I have to do a similar repair on my daughter's (first) house, but I've never done siding repairs. Thanks for posting. This is a huge help.

Good job Fixer ! It looks great.
The bloopers are awesome!

Awesome to hear! Thank you!
Your blooper content should just be a normal part of the video because I would enjoy them even more since it's really entertaining.
Great project. Great episode,

Will never need to do this but couldn’t stop watching anyway. 😂
Wonderful job. Love your channel. Like how you complete one project at a time.
Thank you. 😀

Love this guy...
Being from Jersey, if it were me, when the rain came, I'd of face screwed everything with drywall screws and ran to the bank.
😂
wow, you have staying power and colorful vocabulary. it looks great.
i love the part when you said it's frustrating. i can tell i will say that many time if i was doing this project. it definitely take a lot of energy on the pulling and hammering.
Great video as usual! Get that flower bed away from that siding. Asking for trouble.
Love the bloopers! It really does look nice!
Looks sooo much better. Love the bloopers, 😂😂
Love recommending you to other people. 👏👏
Thank you. I really appreciate that!

Hi from Midwest Cleaning. Great job
You are welcome, you are awesome 👏🏿
ALWAYS top notch informative video. Great job!
I just so enjoy your talents and videos....❤....hugs
Nice job Matt, awesome. like the bloopers.
Nice job. Thanks for posting Matt

Great video. Thank you!
The bricks should go on the other side of the j-channel. The dirt shouldn't touch the siding.
Another blooper reel that would probably do well on TikTok if you cut it up into at least three videos. I know that "if you have friends, I don't" bit would work great as a sound on there.
Yes! I have started incorporating more bloopers into the short form platforms! 😀👍

The siding on the outside was what I couldn't get in.
Good luck editing this one lauren. Indeed, she did.
I've never had to deal with vinyl siding, and I now believe I've been lucky in that regard. It seems cheap.
Yeah, not my first choice as a siding material and for as cheap as it is, it is actually pretty expensive.
@@TheFixerHomeRepairI haven't watched the whole video yet so if you have already said this but what is your favorite choice for value. The least expensive that you think is halfway decent
Nice work. Funny ending. 👍😅🔨
Great video as always
Thanks! 😀

Love the videos!
Awesome video

Thanks!!
Great video.
Thanks
Thanks for checking it out!
You guys R awesome😅
The Fixer 👍
As always, thanks for sharing your skills. Now, onto more important things, is that your hose or the neighbours hose on the fence? Either way, can we move it?
Thanks! This is actually my in-laws house and that is their hose. I will send along your recommendation. 😂
Since you had that siding loose, you could have glued patches from small left over, on the inside of the broken areas and then put everything back.
Does Lauren have you on a diet or are you just wearing larger tee shirts? This one plus the outtakes was excellent!
31:55 Put more pavers against the side of the house instead of mulch.

Shopping at Lowe's now? Is that closer than Home Depot in your new location? Just curious.
👍👍👍
one job always leads into another but in the end the jobs agooden
Not a real good day ;) But great work.
Thanks!
They probably ran out of house wrap for the job and for whatever reason they didn't want to get more
I stopped calling what I do around the house DIY. It's not Do It Yourself. It's Do It Myself (however I can get it done). DIM.
💖
😀👍
The coloration seems pretty close.

Is this your new home?
Hey! No, actually this is my in-laws. Working here for a bit while I save up for a nice big project... coming soon! Thanks for watching!
I didn't see a good view of the king stud and sill plate by the original damaged area. I'll bet there is a reason why....
I have the exact siding dimensions shape and color .. I was wondering if you know the brand or similar equivalent brand
Honestly I have no idea. All I can tell you is it was installed in 1999. Didn't notice any brand name on it. Sorry.
Good job! But the building materials are surprising for me, an European. Wood, cardboard or plastic are used for toys in the Old World.
Is your dog koda
😎👍👍👍
You're not a professional sider, but you play one on the internet, right? ;)
Yeah... something like that. 😂
