Assetto Corsa | Yeah, I Messed Up! LFM VRC Touring Cars @ Oulton Park

- Welcome back to Assetto Corsa for the latest round of the VRC Touring Car Challenge on Low Fuel Motorsport. I’m back in the top split for this one, and I’ve put in one of my best ever LFM qualifying performances to start this one from the third row.
I’ll be starting from P6 but I’m only two tenths off P5, so I could be in contention for a top-five finish here at Oulton Park. However, I need to be strong all race and NOT make mistakes.
But with this being an AC LFM race on CR Sim Racing, you might have guessed that things don’t go smoothly! I’m going to completely lose the plot here, and this race is going to unravel spectacularly. Stay tuned for impending disaster…

Great video, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I really like your energetic commentary and the VRC tourers on LFM is one of my personal favorites at the moment.
Thank you mate, it’s my favourite at the moment too. I didn’t do Assen last week, but I’m loving it when they do the classic British tracks like this one. The cars sound fantastic, and the racing has been brilliant so far 😃
Ha that was a wild ride Chris! It’s definitely a very tough combo - small mistakes carry big penalties! Still the consolation to take is you had great underlying pace, and the overtake into Knickerbrook was cracking!
And thanks for the link to my race at the end there - appreciate that!
Plenty of underlying pace, but no clue how to harness it properly 🤣 I think the main problem was simply not being prepared for how badly the tyres were going to drop off. But trying to overcome that challenge is all part of the fun!
It remind me back in the day watching BTCC listening to Murray.
Yeah, said this to Chris before. He has a real commentator's voice and a flair for commentating. Should be taking it up professionally.
I love this combo! Only 15 mins away from me , brings me back to my childhood days going to see them with my dad!
Brilliant, I’ve never been to Oulton but go to a lot of BSB rounds. Keep meaning to try Oulton, maybe I will this season finally!
The front and rear lights of the cars around you and the enviroment lighting looks amazing.
Yeah AC looks fantastic for such an old game. I think the in-game time was 6pm for this race, so starting to get a little dark and bringing out the best in the car lighting!
Chris "get results by keeping it on the track" Rogers couldn't keep it on the track. Happens to the best of us.
Haha, yes this car is definitely my nemesis at the moment… a tough beast to tame! Don’t think I’ve ever been as ragged and untidy as I was in this race 🤣 Had some decent practice time too, but all on new tyres. As soon as the tyres went, I was in real trouble!
straight out of Toca Touring cars from the early/mid '90s great video looks as tough as i seem to remember it was then
D’ya know what Nij, when I was editing this video, I couldn’t stop thinking about the original TOCA game! The racing is so very similar, just with improved graphics! I’d love to have another go on that classic!
Another great edge of the seat race! I find myself really looking forward to your vids Chris, keep up the great work 👍🏻
Nice one, that’s great to hear! Always happy to provide a weekly fix of sim racing carnage 😃
Ridiculously good mod! Best £17 I've spent in a long while!
I agree. It takes a lot for me to part with any cash 🤣 but I have no regrets at all about buying this pack… it’s tremendous fun!
Bad luck, Chris. But at least you finished the race. And you weren't last!
This is very true! And the enjoyment levels were as high as ever, so that’s the main thing. Cheers Eric
"It's, it's Tarquini" 😂
🤣🤣 Murray the legend!
Good fight Chris. Hard to imagine driving clean and fast with such tight cut limits combined with low grip on that track.
Yeah the track limit cuts were really punishing. I couldn’t believe it when I picked up 2 warnings so early… was definitely on edge for the rest of the race!
Oulton Park curb curse.....I feel ya mate
Yeah mate, and if the kerbs don’t get you, the bumps will!
This car is insanely fun in AC! Great race bro!
Thank you Richard!
These cars are really fun and difficult to drive at the same time, they are excellent mods, and combined with Oulton Park, a very bumpy track, it is quite challenging to stay on track and have a good race. Good video.
Thanks! Yeah the bumps were a real challenge… particularly into Knickerbrook. So easy to lose it there!
Yeah, I need to look at the flags, lol. The most stupid free position I gave so far :D One thing I noticed - Renault is SUPER SLOW at this track + I messed up my setup big time. Next time i used Ford and was able to beat my personal best by 2 seconds in 2 laps (compared to stock Renault). So tips for you guys - Hondas and Fords for this one. Oh and don't take hards like I did xd
Haha ahhh mate, we’ve all done it! 🤣 you can hear my throttle input as I cross the line, I lift off it as I assumed the race was over too. The Honda worked really well around here for me (until the tyres went). I was on mediums. I guess I’ll avoid hards!
I was watching that and remembering an ACC race on LFM around Watkins Glen last season. Driver well in the lead did the same but had slowed down to let the clock wind down before crossing the line. He'd seemingly mistimed it by a fraction of a fraction of a second. It was so close that even the built-in spotter got confused when I crossed the line behind him. But Crew Chief's spotter didn't give me the telltale message that it was over and my dash said I was on the final lap. So, confused, I decided to floor it anyway just in case and then the other guy realised the race wasn't over and chased after me. My luckiest win ever. 😂
Hi...Just subscribed to your channel after watching you at Oulton Park recently. Love the onboard commentary, feels like I'm watching BTCC live.....Great stream...👍
Nice one, that’s exactly the vibe I’m aiming for! Thanks for the sub, and welcome to the channel 😃
Those cars certainly look tricky to handle especially late stages of the race. Exciting to watch.
Yeah, the final 5 minutes in particular were very sketchy! I’d practiced more than usual for this race, but all of it on new tyres. So it properly caught me out at the end!
Great Race , what ppfilter are u using and mods for the graphics?
Thanks mate, I’m just using the latest Custom Shader Patch and Sol… not made any other changes beyond that. But these are the two mods required to access an LFM lobby. Haven’t looked into filters or anything yet.
Love Oulton Park, my local track. But its bloody hard to pass their. As always great watch, you were a bit unlucky with the curbs, they really unsettle the car with the levels of camber. Defeat from the jaws of victory 😆 lol!!!
Haha that really should be the tagline for my channel 🤣
Great race Chris one of my favorite tracks Oulton Park. I will have to look into having a go on this combo
It’s a great combo, but very challenging again! The tyre wear really caught me out. I’d done a bit of practice, but always on new tyres.
i really love how the tourers drive and handle, but damn is it hard getting used to it comming from modern GT3's in ACC. i have been doing 1 race with it and you really have to know the car to know how it handles and where the limits are. A lift off of more than 60% is a no no for that car, immediately rewarding you with lift off oversteer in high speed turns. Or lodge corner, the one after druids, where you have to hit the throttle perfectly for the exit or else you end up understeering into the gras. Nevertheless it's really fun if you don't get crashed
ps: great video as always, and even showing the bad apples. You're not alone Chris, my first tourer race was mayhem but next time I just won't qualify and see how this race goes from then
Yeah, it’s an entirely different world to GT3 racing! I put in a fair bit of practice before this, but the trouble was… all my practice was on new tyres. As soon as I got to the final 5 minutes, I had no idea how to cope with it! It’s a pretty tough learning process, but a very fun one!
Sooooo frustrating!!
Setting the car up, testing, practice, all that preparation thrown away!!! Now to your race 😅
Unlucky buddy, we all have our off days. Hopefully you get a drop round for the championship?
Still some great commentary, as usual, keep 'em coming....
No harm done, I only ever do these races infrequently so I never keep track of championship points standings or anything like that. I treat every race as a one-off, so it never matters if I get a bad result. Enjoying the race is the main thing, and I still enjoyed this one a lot 😃
@@chrisrogerssimracing
Absolutely. As I'm usually around mid back of the pack in my league races, points aren't as important as enjoying the racing, I'm in total agreement.
Just in case I came across incorrectly, I was mocking my racing and preparation, not yours. 👍
It was a brilliant race to watch, as usual.😉
@@jester3265 No need to worry mate, I knew exactly what you meant 👍 my race preparation is equally slapdash though! I did actually do more practice than usual for this race, but only on fresh tyres. I had no clue how to handle the car on sketchy tyres at the end!
@@chrisrogerssimracing 😉
Never mind my friend, it happens to each and everyone of us . 👏
It sure does! Actually, I’m always far less frustrated when I mess up my own race, because I know what to do next time to avoid repeating it. So it’s much better that way, rather than having your race ruined by something (or someone else) beyond your control 👍
naaaah, unlucky Chris... :/ but the last lap started with a great surprise for you :D
Yeah Bogy, that was definitely the comedy freebie of the race. At least one driver had a worse race than me 🤣
@@chrisrogerssimracing aaah, yes he must have felt a bit mad after realizing what just happened 😂
I just got the Vectra, as I used to own such, and man these VRC cars drive so well! But Oulton Park is such a technical track!
The Vectra, you’re a brave man! That was the most difficult to drive of the few I tried! I kept crashing it 🤣
There's no way I'll choose a different one! :D But it's such fun. I came from a Cupra 2016 race and these VRC feel much more responsive compared to that one. I'm currently learning the track by watching your video.
Brother your commentary is soo on point keep up the good content man loving it!!!
Ahh you’re very kind, thank you. Gotta admit these touring car races are probably my favourite of all to commentate on… there’s just so much going on at every turn!
Appreciate you putting up a bad race! Very brave 😂 we learn and hopefully improve! Edit: I'm like this every race
Haha, yeah I didn’t have a good one to pick 🤣 this was my second of two races, and the first one was very similar… a couple of spins early on, and then a lonely drive well down the order! At least this one had more incidents to replay 🤣
@chrisrogerssimracing I prefer these to the races where you do well. Much more relatable, as they say in the US. There are plenty of YT people putting up perfect races and making me feel inadequate!
@justpostedagain Maybe just as well Chris didn't post his first race with how often I ended up in the tyres 🤣
@@justpostedagainYeah I’ll never shy away from sharing a bad race, for that exact reason… I know there will be plenty of people who will feel my pain!
@@John74YTHaha yes, we kept spinning off to let the other back past! But in the end, I crashed once less than you 🤣
What were you thinking Chris😅
Win some lose some.
Reminds me to update these cars.
Lack of race distance practice! I’d done a bit of practice, but always on fresh tyres. By the time I got to final 10 minutes of a race, I had no clue how to deal with the lack of grip 🤣 100% recommend getting these cars though
your upload schedule of last weeks is on point Chris!
Thank you mate! Cheers for watching 😃
Nice watch as always 🎉
Great video, Chris!
Thank you. Will look forward to seeing you on track again this week!
Good job on the video👍
great race plenty of action
Thank you mate, yeah always plenty of action, even if I did cause most of it myself 🤦🏻♂️🤣
Great race! You're game looks amazing! What are you using for filters and such?
Thanks mate. So it’s just the Sol and CSP mods that LFM recommend to use, that’s all I’ve got added 👍
Never a dull moment with these touring cars 😎🍿
Yeah, I went into this race thinking I was going to keep it safer than the race before we were both in. How wrong I was 🤣
You're driving that really well. I cant stop the rear stepping out in the 'Honda' . Are you using the stock setup Chris?
If not. Any setup tips
Unfortunately no setup tips at all, as I run complete default. The rear steps out really easily, doesn’t it! I just try to brake a little earlier than it feels like I should. I do find the car easier to control on a full tank, with a bit more weight behind it. So for the race, I tend to overfill a bit… just so I’ve got a bit more weight at the end. Not that it helped here… the tyres were screwed! I raced on softs at Brands Hatch, but switched to mediums here. Maybe sifts are better, if you can manage them better through the race.
Another great video Chris, shame about the result. Onto the next.
Thank you Matt, yeah it’s one to learn from… must adjust my driving style when the tyres start to go off! Cheers 😃
Love Touring cars and would pay good money to have an official licensed stand alone sim dedicated to this form of racing covering all cars from all eras,i know Rfactor 2 does have some good content though.
Yeah, to be fair the BTCC content on rF2 is fantastic. It’s just a shame they’ve got in such a mess with their game licenses and things. I’d LOVE a stand-alone BTCC game in the mould of the old TOCA 🤞
Wasn't there a rumour a couple of years back then it went quiet, and yeah TOCA was brilliant back in the day.@@chrisrogerssimracing
Can't wait, this'll be good
It usually is when there’s some trademark buffoonery from me 🤦🏻♂️🤣 Enjoy!
Love that one Chris.
Hi Chris, awesome video as always even though the result wasnt what you hoped for. I love the VRC tourers but struggle with them as when I brake it locks up straight away. do you have any tips for these cars in terms of braking and shifting as blew my engine in the 1st race at Brands 😬😬
Yeah, avoiding the lock-ups is a challenge. Generally I find it better to brake a little earlier than you think you ought to, and only apply around 70-75% of your usual pressure to pedal. Also, I find straight line braking helps… so start lifting off the brake before your start steering into the corner. There’s definitely a sweet spot that you’ll find with a bit of practice! As for the engine blows, yeah just try to leave your downshifts as late as possible when you’re breaking heavy. Good luck!
@@chrisrogerssimracing Cheers Chris mate, yeah gonna have to put some time into this series to get it right so its a challenge and enjoyable. Will get some practice in on the servers and hopefully will get there.
@@RacingRefNice one, if you do make it to a race, let me know how it goes!
Neither overtake on Soerensen was a problem especially the first one
Ahh thanks mate. Yeah that first one, at least I had fully passed him when I drifted out into his line. Would have been much worse if I was on his inside and pushed him onto the grass as a result. But ideally I would have liked to have held a tighter line and avoided blocking him off… it was a bit messy! Second one was just really tricky… its almost impossible NOT to drift out to the outer kerb on exit. I was hoping I could just keep it tight enough to avoid contact, but the inner kerb just unsettled me a bit too much!
Not the result you wanted but fantastic entertainment as always 👍 x
Thank you, yeah that’s the name of the game! Disappointed with the result, but the enjoyment of the race more than made up for it!
What mod is this please, this is my childhood right here 😊
Haha it’s class isn’t it! Its by Virtual Racing Cars (VRC) - just search for their website and it’s the LFM VRC Touring Car Challenge pack 👍
@@chrisrogerssimracing fantastic thanks mate, also, great driving and super edit :)
bro you absolutely HAVE to be a professional announcer for motorsports, are you? theres just no way in hell that you aren't! You're the best I've ever heard and i can tell its natural for you. Versus some of these other guys you hear announcing that are extremely corny and cant find shit to say. They'll mention all this obvious nonsense just because they want to say something but you, no way, everything you say is energetic and live! Awesome racing too, but i wanted to just point out that about your narrating. I can continue to pick on these corny announcers but i think we all know what im talking about. "the black and yellow #11 mazda with the budwiser livery, the orange roof, the pick roll bar, the black rims, and the blue wheel center caps....... has pitted for fuel." lol
Ahh thank you so much for that mate, I really appreciate you taking the time to write such a kind comment. I’m purely amateur though… I’d never even thought of commentating until trying it out with a sim racing video while I was bored during the Covid lockdowns. It’s quite a time-consuming way of making videos, having to learn driver names and stuff, but I really wanted to make a different kind of video to the other sim TH-camrs out there… something that feels like you could be watching a highlights package on TV. Really pleased to hear you rate the format, and thank you for watching 😃
@@chrisrogerssimracing Man i think you're far from Amateur. So if you think you're an amateur, imagine how good you'll be when you feel like you're at the next level? I was expecting you to tell me that you've done this for years! I'd say, give it a shot in the professional realm. You kinda gave me Jeremy Clarkson vibes. Go for it bro.
Yep his commentary style is really good. He definitely could be doing it professionally imo.
What brand is that talking pill are you using and can you actually breathe enough, there isn't a second in between lol;ll
Haha 🤣 you may not believe it, but away from TH-cam I’m actually not a very talkative person! 🤣
@@chrisrogerssimracing sure mate sure
😩 So unlucky!
Haha yeah, thanks mate. Nobody to blame but myself 🤣
When i end up in a race with no pressure, I find myself hot lapping and thats where it always goes wrong!! So don't be too hard on yourself?!
Thank you, yeah that’s exactly what happens! You find yourself trying to take that corner just a little bit quicker, or maybe one gear higher. That’s when it goes wrong! I think tyre wear was my main foe here, I wasn’t adjusting my driving enough to account for the loss of grip. One to learn from!
I find tyre wear hard to manage, my braking style [its binary] is bad for tyres cause i can't trail brake due to medical stuff! But its not easy to pull all together, and we keep coming back for more! @@chrisrogerssimracing
What radar do you use?
This is Helicorsa
Correct! Yep it’s Helicorsa, I really like it… it’s much more discreet than the standard in-game one 👍
😊🤞😁👌👍🙌❤️😍😎
🥇
That's emdarrassing🤕
Unlucky mate… when these cars decide they want to change direction, there’s nothing you can do to stop them! Happened to me several times, it was just sheer luck I didn’t take anyone else with me 🤣
I forgot how bumpy and unpredictable this track is when doing practice the other day. Not looking forward to the race tonight 🫤 Do you have any tips on car setups?
The bumps are really tough, particularly into Knickerbrook where you bypass the second chicane. The bumps are right on the braking point… I found it much safer to lift and start braking before the bumps started, even if it does cost a bit of time. As for setup, I just ran default I’m afraid. I did switch to medium tyres for this one, and they were really sketchy at the end. But didn’t try hards, to know if they perform any better over race distance. Good luck!
@@chrisrogerssimracing that's not a bad idea, shall try that tonight and see if the hard tyres are better. I love the videos too mate, keep up the great content 👌
