I'm guessing there's a single spike due it the scale they made the model. It would probably be too fragile to make it with two spikes so they just fused them.
thank you for making your videos, they really help me deal with stress. Like when i put this video on I was a complete wreck, unable to focus on even a single thought, but by the end of the video I have calmed down and now able to function once again. Thank you
Jeff J To have strokes? That’s serious! Sounds like it could be a familial or hereditary component. I’d suggest all adults over the age of 50 get a check up, including a head CAT scan (without contrast), and possibly start anticoagulant therapy, since 85% of strokes are ischemic, not hemorrhagic. I’d further suggest a healthy diet and exercise routine. Maybe a consult with a neurologist, or better yet, Dr. McCoy.
Remember, this show is set prior to Kirk taking command of the Enterprise. I can't remember if it was a show producer back in the day or Gene himself who commented on the change of Badges and Emblems in Starfleet. But, the TOS uniforms were different in that the badges or symbols on the uniforms differed depending on the ship you served on. The change in symbols was reflective of the Enterprises long service and dedication to Starfleet ideals. This is why the uniforms and badges were set to the current triangular symbol. I'm thinking the current producers wanted to remain true to that later in the series? It begins to appear on everything starfleet related AFTER the motion picture was released. Branding. Lol
The ship is bronze in the show. If you're not seeing that it's a problem with your display. But it's always been bronze colored. You can especially tell during close shots of them changing the U to an I when they switch universes.
If they had put cylindrical warp nacelles on her, it would have fit so much better with the ENT/TOS aesthetic. But instead the rectangular-ish nacelles giver her a post Nemesis vibe.
Joe Kerr why? That look is abandoned just a few years later. For all you know that design was born with the connies and died with their refits. Just because the only starships we saw had those engines doesnt mean they were typical of the era.
The Huron class, The Antares class, Bonaventure class, and the Daedalus class are all canon and all share the TOS aesthetic. Now I actually like the Discovery nacelles which is a design shared by the other ships of the era's fleet, because nacelles indicate the timeframe a ship is built. This provides us with a clearly earl founding of the Federation look that feeds into the TOS style later on.
DrewLSsix because if you look at ENT, the NX-01 it has cylindrical nacelles as well, and all the previous earth warp ships used cylindrical warp nacelles. So it would seem that is the style from the Phoenix to the Constellation class.
The Engines remind me a lot of the Vengeance and even a little bit of the Enterprise J. I guess one could suggest the warp coil layout is similar to excelsior's engines later on and that is why they are so long an thin too. But some have suggested the engines are placed out like that to keep them out of the way of the effect of the Spore Drive so there is no direct interaction between the two system - I'd also suggest the reason they have 2 engineerings is the same too - the other one (that we don't see) houses the intermix chamber for the Warp Drive - It's likely a complete mirror of the other one with some additional parts and some pieces missing (but the floor might be really similar). Unless the core is in the middle and the other side is just another lab and another spore growing chamber alongside. I'm not sure if the spores were in the middle of the ship on in the wing - I got the impression they were in the wing
The Anovos Discovery model has Starfleet decals on the nacelles. I don't think we ever see these decals clearly in the show (I think I caught a blurry glimpse) but they are supposed to be there -- although it's a silver delta with lines running down the outside length.
Do you think this is the same discovery Capt Kirk references in the squire of gothos? Or was there a different discovery science vessel at the same time?
I love Star trek but I rarely like the ship designs. There are only five ship designs I truly like in Star Trek. The NX-01, the DS9 Runabouts, The Shenzou, Andorain cruisers from Enterprise, and kind of the Enterprise E. IDK why I dislike the designs so much. I do like long nacelles, but there just isn't a ship in star trek with a body and long nacelles that I like
Hmm, probably isn't the finalized version. Seems to be missing the cutout areas for the windows in the middle ring, much like the version in the opening credits. Also, it should have the Starfleet logo in white on the side of the warp engines.
Have you noticed how the neck, including the bridge module, is brown instead of bronze like in all the promotional material and just how ill-fitting the joint for it looks with the rest of the model?
Mine hasn't arrived yet but this looks awful compared to the quality of the Shenzhou. This shows two square bridge windows where there should be one wide window. Then there's the issue of the deflector dish as you mentioned. Looks like a big section of the neck has no windows at all while others are misaligned in true Eaglemoss fashion. But it's not all bad I guess, however, I expect better for the price.
Senior Woodz - Unfortunately that can happen with the Eaglemoss models, my TNG finale Galaxy “dreadnought” Has a bit of a wonky port nacelle as well. Still very good models though.
+Dreadnought AI I'll give eaglemoss an "A" for their selection/variety, but of all these model views their quality seems like a "C-" or "D+" - I don't think I've seen one review were there isn't some issue in quality control - I don't even think they actually have a qc department
I preordered a while back. Eaglemoss said they had to crunch in order to get their first wave shipped by Feb. 1, so maybe it delayed their second wave. Mine didn't have a booklet, so that sucks.
Discovery IS a bronze colour. It's highly reflective so it looks bluish black due to being surrounded by space (which is bluish black in the show) all the time. look at scenes where it's near light sources.
Honestly this model doesn't look great. Some detailing/fitting issues and the colour would bother the hell out of me. I collect the regular ship magazine and the quality is usually pretty good too, just doesn't look it here. The paint job on the impulse engines is awful!
It's not that they are red, its that the back of the pylon that is the impulse engines on this model look over painted, like not even within the impulse area.
The quality on this one isn't as good as Shenzhou. That one is practically flawless. Nonetheless, this Discovery model still looks good from a distance. The paint is very good looking in person.
I actually preferred the first revealed version since it has two orange bussard intake domes for each nacelle. Reminded me of some classic fifties tail lights. Other Than that I do hope they make Comm. SARU the new captain in season 2 because he earned it!
The ship might be a section 31 ship since there are no starfleet markings, never mentioned the ship anywhere in history to keep the spore drive a secret, and has a registry 1031?lol
tho Im big startrek fan I never cared about models and stuff but I care a lot for junkball media. Its great to discover other aspect of the fandom trough videos like these
You'll be waiting a long time for a two needle version. I don't think Eaglemoss has ever corrected a model in later editions, unless they release a variation, if even then.
I saw Gary Lockwood at a convention a couple years ago. He was a half hour late for his panel and has absolutely no positive memories of being on Star Trek. He only wanted to talk about when he was in his prime and was banging all the women in Hollywood. It was a completely miserable experience.
I love the look of the Discovery. Like you said, the proportions are very striking and it just has a really great retro look to it. As for this model, I agree that they must have finished it before the design was finalised. The over-saturated bronze look, different deflector, and blue bussard collectors seem to illustrate this. I was thinking of getting this one but I think I'll pass, because of both the inaccuracies and what looks like general quality issues from what I can see in the video.
Good plan. This thing isn't cheap either. $62 USD after tax/shipping. Eaglemoss makes more ships, but Diamond Select still has the highest quality models.
I actually quite like the Discovery design. It reminds me quite a bit of the Ralph Mcquarrie Phase II Enterprise design. Which I imagine that was what they were going for, inspiration (or fan-service) wise.
I doubt that aztec pattern they paint on many of the ships is easy or cheap - so no they don't look low quality at all - (aside from the odd dodgy detail) or miss-aligned windows or wonky nacelle ) they are often rather nice - certainly better than the FASA Models or the Micro Machines and orders of magnitude better than the Playmates, Ertl etc.. ships. Could they be better absolutely - but they are certainly not 'bad' either. That the ship came out so bronze is likely due to the reference material they were given on the hull colour - I'd have preferred something more like the colour of the Mission Scout or the Madusan vessel or even the NX-01. But I don't hate the Bronze. I think a clear back part for the sensor dish with an opaque dish would have looked better - But I guess the Deflector is always a hard part to replicate properly.
Diamond Select still has the best quality models but at least Eaglemoss offers a wide variety. $60 USD is a high price for this, but hopefully they'll lower the price eventually.
if you are 13, you are f****d :P Also, could you do more EM reviews. I like your style, and it would be great to see other models reviewed in such a way.
I’ve got a few EM and old Star Trek items I’d like to do, but my “live” stopped working with my camera. Once I get that sorted away, I’d put out a few more.
The sleek design is certainly sexy an the ultra long nacelles make the ship reminiscent of a hot woman with beautiful long legs. Unfortunately, none of that feels at home in the 23rd century.
How have no one made a U.S.S Discovery pizza cutter yet?! I want one NOW! :D
Because theres all ready an Enterprise one. Ive seen it on ThinkGeek and some other sites of the like.
The holes would get toppings stuck in them
SirTAD, Yeah I know, but the saucer on the U.S.S Discovery already spins like a pizza cutter and would be a perfect fit :)
Leon Kernan, Thats why we have the invention called a washing machine
Someone needs to make a USS Discovery pizza cutter including chopsticks as warp engines.
"The model is very reflective" Just how reflective again? Can i use it as a mirror?
It can reflect the darkness of your soul
90 Lancaster That sounds useful
A dark mirror...
Chris sonofPear i See, in a mirror, darkly.
It's a shame they didn't make the saucer spin. Leave it to 2017 to make a Star Trek show where the ship is a giant fidget spinner.
Thank you
My pleasure. Glad you like it.
I enjoy and like all videos you make. Keep up the great work!
I love the 80's themes and sounds you go with in your videos
The space shuttle Discovery is designated OV-103. That may have influenced the registry of NCC-1031.
Like the Challenger inspired USS Challenger NCC-71099.
Good observation but I think Bryan Fuller already disclosed the significance of 1031.
Neat deep cut reference!
olympicnut Discovery's registry is a Halloween reference, it's Fuller's favorite holiday.
I don't want to think about Bryan Fuller. It makes me sad.
Regarding the impulse engines, TNG did suggest that they had a slight destabilising effect on the aft shields.
Your Vengeance model looks like it had a stroke. One of its nacelles is drooping. I've noticed that's actually a common problem on Star Trek models.
Totally. One of the nacelles is upside down.
That intro man, I can't get enough

Just because the only starships we saw had those engines doesnt mean they were typical of the era.
Joe Kerr: this is a different take on the show.. The shape of the nacelles doesn't matter
The Huron class, The Antares class, Bonaventure class, and the Daedalus class are all canon and all share the TOS aesthetic.

Your videos are great, man. Keep it up!
do a retrospective on the battlestar galactica and the uss prometheus
I love BSG. No promises on a Retrospective though. Sorry.
The Anovos Discovery model has Starfleet decals on the nacelles. I don't think we ever see these decals clearly in the show (I think I caught a blurry glimpse) but they are supposed to be there -- although it's a silver delta with lines running down the outside length.

Up close scenes of Discovery's hull did show it to have a bronze/copper color scheme.
Why did they use the outdated promo art on the box with Discovery still having the short nacelles and a different hull color?
Hmm, probably isn't the finalized version. Seems to be missing the cutout areas for the windows in the middle ring, much like the version in the opening credits. Also, it should have the Starfleet logo in white on the side of the warp engines.

Is the deflector dish supposed to be that crooked?
Senior Woodz: no
It's pretty crooked and one of the nacelles is misaligned too.

It looks like a pacifier too. Maybe someone will make a more accurate replacement part for sale.
Next issue must be the uss kerala right???
How did you get it so early? Eaglemoss is saying it doesn’t ship until April.
I preordered a while back. Eaglemoss said they had to crunch in order to get their first wave shipped by Feb. 1, so maybe it delayed their second wave. Mine didn't have a booklet, so that sucks.
Junkball Media Thanks for the information. Great video.

Space doesn't have a color.

kevmscotland: the model from the show or the ship.. As the impulse engines are always red. And it's change.. (Small changes) so they won't kill you
Also the deflector dish looked offset to one side
It's not that they are red, its that the back of the pylon that is the impulse engines on this model look over painted, like not even within the impulse area.
It looks a lot better than the Eaglemoss Enterprise-C and Neg'var class models!
That models actually pretty cool. I night have to pick it up if the price isn't too bad.
Dang Eaglemoss isn't giving these thing away are they? But these models seems pretty awesome.
I paid for mine. I don't accept free stuff just in case I want to trash it.
Junkball Media I just ment they were expensive but that's very considerate of you.
The quality on this one isn't as good as Shenzhou. That one is practically flawless. Nonetheless, this Discovery model still looks good from a distance. The paint is very good looking in person.
I really like your speculative thoughts on this video.
Thanks. It's liberating to just talk off the cuff about a ship with these "Stuff" videos but I'll do a proper deep dive on Discovery soon.
I love your vids. Keep up the good work!

Does the saucer sections spin?
No they don't do moving pieces unfortunately.
Great video! Just because I haven't subscribed to the show doesn't mean I can't admire the ship design.
How have you got this already??
Luck. Some people got their's even earlier.
Holy shit the model is like $60!
tho Im big startrek fan I never cared about models and stuff but I care a lot for junkball media. Its great to discover other aspect of the fandom trough videos like these
The bronzing makes it seem like the hull colors of a Cardassian ship.
Surprised you got one so early. It took them forever just to send out the Shenzhou
Can't wait to get this!
they kept the alpha version's color? weird
Going to wait until the two needle version comes out before I get one. Lol great and funny video as always
Thanks, buddy. You still make the best model review videos.
Awww thanks. I thought about doing some eaglemoss Trek ships review, but Trek fans are to mean. hahaha
Tell me about it. I get chewed out if I say some bad about the show, and I get chewed out if I say something positive about it.
lol can't win either way
You'll be waiting a long time for a two needle version. I don't think Eaglemoss has ever corrected a model in later editions, unless they release a variation, if even then.
I think this is the best ship from DSC, its simplistic enough to be in Star Trek and detailed enough to be accurate to the time era.
I didnt even care about the model. I just clicked because it is Junkball. Good work!
I thought no markings because it was section 44.
Where do you live? Curious about the accent? :)
Maybe the spinning thing is a section 31 design, maybe it spins so fast that other ships can’t identify it.
Cool vid, I actually quite like this design now. Crazy
I enjoy your videos.
So, you're a Ken user? Awesome! :)
I saw Gary Lockwood at a convention a couple years ago. He was a half hour late for his panel and has absolutely no positive memories of being on Star Trek. He only wanted to talk about when he was in his prime and was banging all the women in Hollywood. It was a completely miserable experience.
Superfriends intro. Cool.
The show is trying to be very realistic. As space is very dark. My only real complaint is that they brighten up the space scenes.
I think you got ripped off on this one and that their mistake was releasing too soon based of early data
Very well made model. Shame it's such a butt ugly ship.
Whats so bad about Lorca
My Star Trek OCD kicked in with the deflector dish not being centered on the model :( Nice video though, keep them coming! xx
I really enjoy your chsnnel.
Dance Party is all that matters!
It's really the only reason I started making these types of videos. Honestly.
Perhaps that's where I failed you. hahah!!!
Got mine this past Tuesday. I am waiting for them to come out with DSC Enterprise.
I love the look of the Discovery. Like you said, the proportions are very striking and it just has a really great retro look to it. The nacelles are still VERY long though...
Yes. Very. I had to be careful not to scrape it on the table top every time I repositioned it.
The ship continues to grow on me. The proportions of the nacelles are still a sticking point, though.
I thought it was a silver color
Bah! Looks like a Klingon battle cruiser from behind. And that dish- ffs why is this a prequel era ship?
I dig it - hate DSC or not, but the Disco is pretty damn unique and sleek AF!
Best dance party ever!
What a Departure from the Real Star Trek. That Universe and characters do not fit my idea of Entertainment.
Just elevate the nacelles and the ship looks great
otherwise its literally a pizza cutter with two handles
A great video. !!!!!
But what's it like for cutting pizzas?? :D
I actually quite like the Discovery design. It reminds me quite a bit of the Ralph Mcquarrie Phase II Enterprise design.
Which I imagine that was what they were going for, inspiration (or fan-service) wise.
and this eaglemoss stuff is really low quality. It looks like you could buy it in chinatown for $2
I doubt that aztec pattern they paint on many of the ships is easy or cheap - so no they don't look low quality at all - (aside from the odd dodgy detail) or miss-aligned windows or wonky nacelle ) they are often rather nice - certainly better than the FASA Models or the Micro Machines and orders of magnitude better than the Playmates, Ertl etc.. ships.

Junkball Media I'm still annoyed that Diamond Select coated my Enterprise B in dirt.
+ModelChili Scale Models Was that dirt canonical?
Very funny video, liked it a lot. :) Can’t say the same about the model though. Looks surprisingly cheap...
Yeah, parts of the model are pretty sloppy. One nacelle is crooked, the saucer is slanted and the dish is lopsided.
Still hate the design
As someone who loves it, I'm curious as to what you don't like about it.
if you are 13, you are f****d
:P
Also, could you do more EM reviews. I like your style, and it would be great to see other models reviewed in such a way.
I’ve got a few EM and old Star Trek items I’d like to do, but my “live” stopped working with my camera. Once I get that sorted away, I’d put out a few more.
now that a physical model exist you can appreciate the design of the Discovery. Its actually quite impressive and much more elegant then i thought
Those nacelles are stupidly long
If you are 13 you are fucked :P But it is a great model. If only EM could finally get the windows right. Misprinted again...
And, DISCO! )))
Meh...........
wow these models are so tiny!
So they do this ship justice but completely shit on the enterprise refit? I'm cheesed
FIRST
Terrible looking ship were they on drugs at the time?
It nearly became the Phase 2 Enterprise back in the day.
The design/ look still sucks
It takes after the show... terrible.
that is still an ugly ship imo
PointOfLightProds You are an ugly person imo
Man, JagsFan got triggered like a baby lol. This ship is god awful and ugly. JagsFan, now that's a Soyboy little cuckold pansy.
The sleek design is certainly sexy an the ultra long nacelles make the ship reminiscent of a hot woman with beautiful long legs. Unfortunately, none of that feels at home in the 23rd century.
That's one ugly ass model. What did it cost ? 30 dollars ?
The Discovery is an ugly ship with stupid abilities.
That is my exact my opinion of YOU
You're a pathetic low IQ piece of human garbage lol.
Riddick Xavier And you are a level below that bitch lol
I liked the video, but despise the show. It feels about as star trek as captain bucky o'hare.
Meh the show still suck
Just like any star trek basically.
Meh, you know something? YOU still suck.
