See, not so long ago if you wanted luxury you'd probably think of Mercedes or even Lexus. For performance, you'd think of BMW. And maybe if you wanted a futuristic interior with nice tech you'd go Audi. But nowadays, Mercedes takes the cake in all these categories.
I bought a 2019 E63S and it is an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING car! My wife got her courage up and finally drove it. Well, she had me sell her Range Rover V8 Supercharged and she's now in an E43! Hands down the BEST performance sedans on the market today!

Glad to see the infotainment screan is integrated into the dash and doesn't look like they just glued an iPad to the dashboard. That is one of the biggest things I can't stand that Mercedes and many other manufacturers are doing with interiors right now.
After reading all the comments, here's mine, I've owned 3 Mercedes Benz cars since 2008, The 08 was a rear drive E550, beautiful car, 11 E550 4 matic, awesome car, last but not least 2014 CLS 550, cream of the crop, now, the CLS is changing its body for 19, straight 6 Hybrid, not ready for that yet, there is no E550 option any longer, concerning the people who say 5 series BMW, had one, rode like a truck, hard steering, hard seats, great motor, great radio, never hated a car more than that, I come from Lincolns, went foreign after no more Mark 8s, so if u want a mid size luxury sport sedan, Mercedes is the only choice, although in my book, Audi A7 is a beautiful thing too, just after 3 550 motors, 345 hp is a bit slower than what I'm used to, do I need an AMG ? No, but low80s and a great lease on a car that has great residual value, is where I need to be, priced a 2018 CT6, with the 3.0 400 hp platinum edition, 89,000, Lear # 1483.00 per mo, no money down tax in lease, I asked the dealer who his dealer was for the stuff he was smoking, but u bring that car back 15 mins after u drive it away it's worthless, I get my 2018 E43 June, looking forward to it

You really won’t though, a base model S550 has was less features than a fully loaded E43. Hell, a base S-Class doesn’t even have cooled seats or keyless go.
tmanepic at $100k a base Mercedes S560 still has to have the premium package to get cooled seats, Keyless go, and a few other nicks and nacks that should be standard. Mercedes really should just increase the base price and include them. Edit: just confirmed you have to add a $5k premium pack to get “heated seats plus”, ventilated seats, keyless go, surround view camera, massage multi contour seats, handfree access, and more.

jimsss222 it’s not though. It would be more like a BMW M sport in the sense that it has an AMG inspired body, some handling bits, but the engine is not an AMG engine (which have always been hand built by someone in MB AMG)
I assumed everyone knew an E43 competes directly with the M550i, not the M5 - that's for the E63. M5 isn't even in this conversation, especially using it to be "better" than the E43 instead of the E63. Of course it is. M5 doesn't change his statement at all.
$91k.. MB you're drunk! I'd rather buy a C7 Z06, or CTS-V for that type of money. Both offer more power; and look far more aggressive. Not to mention both cars are way cheaper to repair if need be. No thanks! Quality review as always Matt!
because driving a car is not just about 0-60 speed or arguing about interiors. maybe once you can afford either of those cars and spend a few hours behind each you will begin to understand
If you want a softer ride and a little more power but don’t care about sound, get the M550i. If you want flatter handling, a more firm ride and awesome engine and exhaust sounds, the E43 is the way to go.
what are peoples thoughts on the all digital gauges? it looks like a giant ipad screen, kind of lame. and the transmission is on a stalk off the steering wheel? is this a truck or some american family sedan from the 80s ? lol pretty interior otherwise

Art Vandelay I️ agree that Mercedes overall as a company is better than BMW, but M550i vs E43 AMG (seriously painfully calling this AMG sport a flat out AMG) ...the E43 is not on the same level of the M550i, which is almost as quick as the previous Gen M5. Its really not close. Now if you’re talking e63 vs M5 that’s an evenly matched arguments
I don’t know why exactly but Mercedes still seems to cater to an older clientele than BMW. Maybe that and something like this just seems to be a little gaudy with the color choices outside and in. Audi does a great job with this, BMW not bad either. Mercedes tries too much
I worked at a mercedes dealership and i learned since Chrysler took over those cars are garbage any many mercedes models literally visit the shop once a month for maintenance or issues
The digital display is very nice but the dash looks like a couple of ipads that were put together end to end.The design of the air vents area unfortunately gives a look that it belongs in a car for older people,much like a Bentley.The rims are atrocious.
Anthony Neilly before this amg lite nonsense I think there was some value in the e550/550i sleeper rockets. Executive car with some real performance chops but not 100 percent crazy like amg or M. But now mb has segmented their cars to slap an amg badge on to jack up the price. That's the only reason. Amg costs more , same with M 550 . I blame Audi for their S cars lol. In between performance but made them look like amg/m level cars/branding

I'm pretty sure the S550 also has the Burmeister sound system with the speakers that go out.

The "cooling" seats are meant to work with the heated seats to dry !
xomikeyB yes. My old S class can use the heated and cooled at the same time and it’s amazing. Great on a cold winter morning.

Very funny, i trader my C63s for the GLC43 AMG due to 4matic and air suspension. My SUV hit 60mph in 4.1 to 4.2 seconds.

43 is a great in between. I got one for 50k and it makes way more sense than a 63 for daily driving.
