Well, first off let me say that yours are some of the most entertaining videos on wood working. Your humor (small encouragement device) is wonderful. Second, because of your Wari Kebiki video, I made one. I ordered a blade from Hida and they sent me the wrong one. They sent me a really long blade. I called and told them I would send it back but I could just cut it and get 4 blades out of the one. The gentleman said he appreciated the call but I should just keep it.
I changed the key mechanism to a screw and added a brass inlay so the wood doesn't get damaged. This is just a test. I jacked the hole for the beam. We don't learn anything without jacking something, right. I will probably make one like yours with the key when I practice mortising a hole. Thanks for your great videos. I am considering buying the Odate book.

Thanks for the kind words Bruce. You are absolutely right, the best teachers are the mistakes that we make, hope that wari-kebiki works out for you!

You could use steel screws to establish the holes then use brass to finish

1st: if you screw in hardwood put a little bit wax or butter on the thread ... it makes it easier and the screw doesn't break ... 2nd: if you start working with this plane don't start at the end of the board ... start 25 cm in front of you and than work back piece by piece to the end .... if you do so you don't need so much power to get a clean cut in the wood ... good Job ... it's fun to see you videos ... 👍🏽

Thanks for the tips Joe! This was my first plow plane so thanks for the advice on using it. Always learning something new.

Pilot with a stainless steel screw same size as the brass and wax them.

I recently bought one of these and it works quite nicely but the width of the blade (9mm) gives me headache when thinking of the time when I will have to do uradashi (first timer). Do you think it is doable? And how can I do that to the 2 guiding blades? I am very curious as how Japanese woodworkers perform uradashi on their marking knives and such delicate blades.

In all honestly they really only do that on wider edge tools. Narrow stuff just gets ground down to the point where it's sharp again. I've talked with dozens of them and they never do it on anything narrow like 9mm wide

The reason why you had trouble opening the plane is because the plane is made of oak, and the oak reacts when coming in contact steel and corrodes so if using oak use brass.

If I was talented, I would replace the whole wooden body. Since I'm the opposite of talented, I'll just watch you do your stuff.

Not very different from traditional western wooden plow planes.
