You are so generous with all the info your giving out in your videos - it is a huge help for beginners like me. You are a great teacher and your soaps are beatiful. Thank you so much for all your tips and videos!
This technique is SO much faster than mica dusting, and the result is so much cleaner... just tried this technique out tonight and it works wonderfully! your videos are so calming, thank you for them!
This was a fun soap to try. Followed everything to a T except the Mica I used clogged my sprayer so I couldn't use it and just sprinkled some on top using a fan brush.
Oh my GOODNESS. You're positively spoiling us with all these uploads. This bar looks beautiful - I can't wait to watch the rest of it. :) Edit: Wow, that was a new way to coat the top with mica for me - I've only ever seen it dusted on while it's still wet batter... that's so clever. Edit 2: The water ratio info was helpful. I've never been quite sure of the best place to start - I understand that lowering it tends to speed up trace? So I'm not sure whether to start at the default on soap calc or whether to drop it down to at least something like 33% when I make my first batch. I guess as long as I don't go TOO low, and take my time and don't try to go too crazy with everything, the worst that would happen is having to bang my mould a bit harder to get out air bubbles if it over-thickens... The hardest part is trying to work out how much soap to make to fill a mould... though again, I suppose for my first batch it doesn't matter if it's not enough to fill it completely the first time. I am guessing that I'd need to use more oils if I did a water discount though? If I wanted the same resulting volume of batter, that is. (and yes, I'll take a look at the facebook group!)
Hello again! Thank you much! To answer your edits... Edit 1: I haven't seen it around either! It will be fun to see what people make! Edit 2: To me, I don't notice an acceleration, maybe I forget how it used to be. I still have plenty of time to work. Of course you need to research how your fragrance behaves. Don't start with the default. You will be fine using 33%. If you are worried about acceleration, just stir by hand at first and if no acceleration happens, then at that point use the stick blender. There is a formula that is used to find the weight of oils in a mold. It is : length x width x height x 0.4 It comes out pretty close. Since I use the 25% "Water as a percentage of oil weight," mine works out better when multiplied be 0.425 or 42.5%. Does that make sense? If you want the same volume, you would want to increase your batch size. You may be overthinking this a bit. Maybe just start with 33% instead of 38% and use that formula and maybe multiply by 0.41 instead of 0.4 to get your oil weight. See you on FB...Introduce yourself so I know who you are! 👍
@@TreeMarieSoapworks Thanks for getting back to me so fast. :) Yes, I have seen that calculation, to give an estimate, but your clarification gives me more of an idea of why it works. And yes, overthinking is a thing I do. A lot. LOL Ever the scientist, I suppose! I guess it's no surprise that everyone in my family is a scientist and my mother is an industrial chemist? :D I'm hoping that, once I know the theory, and have a few batches under my belt, there'll be less overthinking going on. Good to know re: acceleration and reduced water. I have seen it mentioned but again, there are so many other factors that could cause that. Part of the overthinking is because this will not only be something new for me but because of my disabilities, I do have to take care to adapt to the process and be sure I leave myself enough time to do everything (which may take a little longer than able-bodied people). That may mean having to tweak things in the future, but that's again something for much later. Anyway, thanks once again for answering my questions. Sorry to be such a nuisance!
No, you are no bother! I figured you understood science, but you will understand more once you make your first batch. I am an over-thinker too, so I can usually spot one. When you mix your lye water with your oils, there is no hurry to get it in the mold. You don't need to stick blend it. Stick blending it only to speeds up trace. You can stir it and let it sit a bit and stir it again. I do this when I need my colored/scented batter to thicken up before I add it to the mold. (I usually don't want to use the stick blender because the amount of batter is too small and blending it, would add bubbles. So I just wait. Just make sure that it is in a safe place that no one will disturb it, and just keep checking on it. 💕
I love this.. I was looking thru your Instagram and was thinking to myself "I hope she makes a video on this one, and on this one, and this one" haha I absolutely love your work!!!
You always have professional soaps bars that I always want to give as a gift. I like when soaps have a purpose I.e acne, blemishes etc. yours is both useful and pretty.
Thank you for showing how you got that beautiful gold top. Also for explaining about how to avoid soap pitting and the water discounts. So relaxing just to watch and learn!
I love this! You always teach me something new. I bought palette knives and now my mica mixes better. Love the idea of alcohol and mica for the spray and the border to cover the rest of the mold.thank you! Gourgeous soap as always!
This I the most beautiful soap!!! I love all the other creations and the mixes of colour! But I am a sucker for simplicity and Balak is my favourite colour. This is just perfect... the gold on top just gives it a vintage, luxurious kind of touch! I think this is one I’ll try to replicate ... 😍😍😍😍
I just love your videos. I had never heard of the spray bottle technique. It makes a gorgeous bar of soap!! I also appreciate your water discount discussions. That is one of the hardest thing for new soapers to understand. Some people say they discount 25% but then do you change from 38% to 33% and still discount 25%. I think I will take your suggestion. Thank you again.

What an amazing bar of soap. The gold mica makes the black just pop! Thanks for the other tips on water percent. I am a newby soap maker and will have to rewatch video so I can take some notes and figure out the % information too. I always wondered why you used a shifter for the lye solution and I am grateful you answered it here. Ty for your great tutorials. Now to learn to make soap. I also like that you use ice water to cool solution. I just need to learn more about percentages. Ty very much.
thank you so much for sharing!! I will definitely try your tips ... I am a novice at soap making, so I appreciate your videos very much!! lots of great info!

Love the soap and thanks for the tips. We just made 2 batches using your suggestions. Then I sat down to watch this video. As I was watching , you said you got to cover the soap or it could crack. I had to jump up and cover my soap. Point is, your helping in real time 😂. Love the sprayer idea I think it gives better coverage.
Thankyou so much for explaining about water discount! I've been wondering how that works and anything that helps my soap cure a touch faster is good haha. You're the best x
