I have only been to Wilkesboro once when we camped at the Corp. of Engineers campground on the big lake. Beautiful little city! I am from California and at the time, lived in Florida. Very impressed with how nice the place was. Thank you for showing me more of what I missed as we were mostly near the college, the Walmart area and that whole end of town.
The tory oak was struck by lightning in the early 2000s or so. The tree behind dooleys i think is tom dulas tree. Idk but for whatever reason they built the parking lot around it. Lol
J. T.,Ferguson was a merchant and served as Wilkes County sheriff ftom 1870 to 1874. Youvshould have walked a bit fortier behind the courthousd to the old jail, where Tom Dooley where incarcerated between July and October 1866.
