Switching between a chest plate and elytra has always been a thing on bedrock and ive always loved it
And other armor too. I like to hold it down sometimes

Another funny thing I’d like to add, a great way to save rockets and not even use them at all in some instances is using a riptide 3 trident wile using the elytra in water since you stay in the flying motion you can propel yourself super far in the air and it’s super fun
To fly with fireworks, you have to hold the spacebar. Or on Minecraft PE, you have to hold the screen

Extra tip: use potion of slow falling for fast movement without wasting a lot of rockets
if you have tweakeroo mod, you can fast switch between chest plate and elytra using a hotkey

*Fun Fact: If you go to Creative mode and Use an Elytra you could fly without fireworks by pressing jump while flying*

2:58 this isn't true this has always been around even before the elytra because you could always swich armor pieces with your hotbar and you have never needed to crouch.

A tip for bedrock players: as your flying above where you want to land, switch to your chestplaye and you will negate all previous damage and you will take only the fall damage from the contact with the ground.
This means you can stop elytra sundenly without taking damage and it is much easier as you dont need to crouch to switch the chestplate.
Edit: I am also a donut
in bedrock, you can actually disable the elytra by tapping jump again
