It's definately one of my favorite locals. Such an awesome combination with the mountains and ocean, the hiking by day and harbor atmosphere by night. It's pretty cool that you got grow up nearby!
All of my hiking videos posted since Jan 2012 have been filmed on a Samsung H300 camcorder. Prior to that I was using a Flip Mino HD - you'll see a lack of optical image stabilization on these vids, which is a major plus of upgrading to the Samsung - and portions of my earlier hiking vids were even recorded using my Droid cellphone in HD mode). When movement isn't involved, I still occasionally use the Flip at home for secondary camera angles on table top reviews, etc.
Peak Black Fly season for Northern New England is *roughly* Mid May - Mid June, so I would lean towards July or late June from that perspective. The flip side - the deeper into summer you go, the scarcer the water (hence the fading black flies). This isn't the end of the world, just something to be a aware of. I've gone in August and it was fine, but smaller springs etc were unreliable. Honestly though, anytime Jun-Aug should be similar. Pre-June and Post-August introduces different factors.
Thanks for your videos! Love them...especially the Pemi Loop vids.. and at 4:13 that's a red squirrel .. they think they're tuff. .. heading up to Acadia this weekend.
Great video. Was there a few years ago a went up Cadillac mtn, had some beers at Geddys in bar harbor and some awesome lobster at Ruth and wimpys. Cant wait to go back.
Thank you for the advice! Since we have never been up that way, I appreciate any advice. Also wanted to let you know that you have inspired me to try doing so gear review videos. I just got my $8 pocket rocket wanna be yesterday from China so I did a video showing it against my jetboil. I did mention in the video that I found out about the $8 stove on your video and said you have some awesome videos. Can't wait to see your next hiking video!!
I'll have to start talking up the Maine hunting seasons... Make sure he know that there's no deer hunting allowed on Mt. Desert Island though. (Guess that explains why they were strolling down through town where we stayed in Southwest Harbor)
Unfortunately, there's no camping / backpacking allowed anywhere within the actual park. There are a couple commercial camping spots on the island though, not to far away from the park limits.
Really weird, the whole video I was subconsciously thinking the sun was setting because I live on the west coast.. when you mentioned the tour at noon I was really confused for a moment haha.
My wife and I want to take a trip up through Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine this summer. Do you have any recommendations on when to go based upon weather. We are able to go in either June or July. We want to do some backpacking on this trip. Just curious what you thought since you are familiar with that part of the country.
Cadillac Mountain is the first spot in the USA to get sunlight everyday Also Arcadia is the 2nd Most Visited National Park 1st on the east side of the Mississippi
Hey sintax, the wife and are heading here in a couple weeks ... we were watching this great vid and saw that you guys ate lobster one night. Do you recall the name of the restaurant? Thanks!!
We went to a few spots, but our favorite lobster meal was at Trenton Lobster Pound. It's right on Rt 3, just before crossing the bridge onto Mt Desert Island.
sintax77 ... You never disappoint!! We tried a couple places too and the Trenton Lobster Pound was the best. Fun crew working there, excellent lobstah, and a great setting. Thanks again!!! PS, we did the bowl trail to Champlain Mt too, wow, wish we were allowed to Backcountry camp. It was a wonderful place and a wonderful vacation.

My wife and I were there about same time you guys were. Beautiful.
The supense sound effect with the selection of trail to hike and the butterfly was hysterical

That is a great "best of both worlds hike vid" . Thanks for sharing.
Laughed out loud at .. so this is the bowl trail.. an alternative to the beehive trail lol. The look on your wife's face was priceless.
Yeah, if we ever had to move up north, this would probably be on the short list of general areas to live.
wow... This place is beautiful.

Great video, beautiful place. Thanks!
Thanks, but I think I should finally come clean: I've been editing all the puppy kicking scenes out of these vids for a while now...

Nice scenery at the lake. Do know if there is any camping around there? Seems like a nice place to visit. Like the video.
