A few years ago, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie received a letter from a dear friend from childhood, asking her how to raise her baby girl as a feminist. “Dear Ijeawele” is Adichie’s letter of response. “Dear Ijeawele” goes right to the heart of sexual politics in the 21st century, and is sure to start a new and urgently needed conversation about what it really means to be a woman today. Adichie will be in conversation with Radhika Jones, The New York Times’s editorial director, books.

I have so much respect for Lady Adichie & Lady DuVernay 🤩 I too, tend to gravitate towards the “mature human beings” of the older generation for “counseling” wisdom they may wish to bestow on me.
Really what does the obsession with youth have to offer besides:
exploitative objectification of young women &
exploitative objectification of young men? For the sake of, the type of excitement that is “a temporary high.”
I appreciate you highlighting the fact that our society is not yet, flexible enough to #acknowledge #women “after women passes a certain age bracket.”

P.s. Also it’s refreshing to know you identify the bizarreness, of any society celebrating “any first black accomplishments” in this millennium due to the strongholds of OPPRESSION.

I totally agree with chima story telling and analysis but the truth is that in the african context its really different as it will take only God to equate man and woman etc.its a whole alot different,is not just chima or anyone else this things are biblical in nature etc. The character of the nigerian state politically has gone beyond woman given so much role etc.in as much as i totally agree with chima assumption but still this certainly cannot transform so much to Nigeria system

That’s because she’s not his eldest child. Chimamanda is the 5th of his 6 children.
Am not at all romanticise the idea of feminist or feminism all what i knew i love Chimamanda, the good and beautiful side of her she is human being, in fact one of the symbolic example of humanity in Igbo land. As Nigerian from North, It quite true my approach towards Igbos is different but when it comes to Mrs Adichie i used to be tranquil her kindness towards Nigeria as country her affection of pan Africanism and humanity in general. How I wish all Igbos are like this marvelous lady.

I really like her though I don't always agree with her... like her choice of outfit today. I think that she's pretty but that a different outfit would bring out her beauty better.

I would love to read a "Dear Ijeawele" from Adichie, aimed at a different set. I have friends who are the first in their family to finish primary school, who could never afford baby play groups or frequent toy store troops or Igbo lessons, whose husbands or children's fathers are off in a foreign country or in the gold bush or timber country; some women whose first child was born when they were still young, and for whom reading is still hard.
"Dear Ijeawele" is a *great* book. Can there be a companion piece for young feminists who can't ground their sense of self-worth in their graduate degree, or can't pay their daughters five cents for every page they read?

As a Man if I get assaulted on the streets, its sure will never be a women coming to stand up to a physical man.
