Personally, I am out I’ve been burned out for a while now and everything that you mention in the video to be honest, hit the nail on the head for me. I mean it’s not just one thing that did me in it’s the combination of everything all at once that’s just Too much and is my reason for leaving the hobby. I probably will still be part of the community but as for statue collecting, I’m done.
No I am not burned out. Not a bit. I collect many different lines and characters. When I don’t have the money to spend it’s ok. I will simply enjoy the collections of others. I really enjoy it when I get to see all of your new pieces. Doesn’t matter they aren’t in my house. Still makes me so happy. I always try to send love and hugs out to everyone cause I know there are a lot of people going through hard times. Hang in there everyone. It will get better! In the meantime we need to hold together and be there for each other. That’s what makes this a community! Keep sharing those pics and stories! Keep a smile on those faces!😉
Not necessarily burnout but I did whittle down my PO list so some of my financial anxiety is alleviated. It's definitely about discipline and overcoming things like impulse or FOMO. It's about being happy with one good solid piece rather than fretting over getting a bunch of pieces. Sometimes, most times, quality trumps quantity and bring honest with yourself about what truly speaks to you is plenty compared to feeling like you have to keep up with anyone else or get pieces because others are. I'm sticking with four really solid pieces spread out over the course of 2023 and 2024 and I feel really good about them. Burnout is a real thing. I just pray for and support anyone trying to overcome it or handle it in their own way.
Hi Chris! Yeah, I am still waiting on some statues that I have on order, but after I receive them, I am done. Space is the reason, but I am glad that I don't have a gigantic house.
I myself have been feeling "thin...stretched, like butter scraped over to much bread" as Bilbo would say for all the reasons you mentioned Chris and so have slowly been tapering off. Still I know I will always collect, right now I have slowed down but been leaning towards comics. If I dont chat as much online or communicate with the group I will still always enjoy watching my fav collecting channels such as yours even if it's on the rewind. Bottom line when you get the feeling like your that hamster spinning visciously on that wheel, time to get off for a spell. Good topic and good on you for bringing it up, never hurts to reevaluate.
I've had a rotten string of purchases where the statues come damaged due to poor packaging by the studio, or poor quality of the statue. It's gotten to the point I'm dreading getting these things instead of being excited.
I think for many, the pandemic started a consumption kick. Not to get *too* serious on a statue collecting channel, but I do think with inflation, rising interest rates, hiked up shipping on stuff like statues, talk of recession, scary events like bank failures (even if these are banks that service more specialized clienteles like SVB, it's scary to average folks), it may be moving people to trim down their more luxury-leaning expenses. I comment on the vids fairly regularly, I've mentioned before I'm a comic collector with an appreciation of the statues (out of my price range for right now). I've REALLY slowed on the comic buys lately, I was definitely overspending, not in a way that was damaging my personal financial health, but in a way that could have been more responsible. Not burned out! I love reading, organizing, and collecting. I definitely have been reading the tea leaves of the economy and have decided to really slash my spending on books for right now. Seems others are too as I'm seeing much about a buying slowdown in the comic market. I decided at the beginning of March, no more online buys for 6 months, and honestly maybe even for the rest of the year (these days, September is basically already Christmas shopping time since I have so many folks I need to buy for). I've decided I want to use my increased savings to pay off a couple larger, necessary, recent purchases and knock out my car loan early. In the long run, that means a bit more cushion for me monthly for savings, fun activities, and ultimately comics! All about finding the appropriate balance, and sometimes there are seasons to shift gears in our collecting habits.
Thanks for this Chris. For me it’s the feeling of being left out sometimes in the community because all my statues are of older or dated ones. Sometimes I felt the pressure of getting new ones, but I always remembered your advise to collectors like me to collect the statues that you love - even if its a bit outdated. 😊
Space and money mainly is why I need to back off and take a break. Have quite a few coming in and looking forward to those, but not much else I can do from a space stand point.
Great discussion as always. As far as my situation, I do find myself canceling orders on Statues I feel that just don’t hit a certain mark. In previous years, I would allow some imperfections go by but now if something really doesn’t feel right, even if I had it on pre-order for over a year, I’m more likely to cancel it and bank the money for something in the future.
Hi Chris, I know what you mean, but I sold out my whole collection and I just collect mandalorian stuff now , it’s much more stress free and I feel lighter and in control. I needed the money to take care of my family which is priority to me .
Great vid. Don't understand why people say "I'm getting out" and selling their entire collections. Why not just keep a few things you enjoy and not buy unless you sell old? There's nothing to "get out" of if it's a hobby versus an addiction
Collecting for me has moved down on my hobby list. Where it used to be #1 it's now #3. I collect what I don't have and when it's on sale and free ship. I'm sort of semi retired from collecting. Almost out of space and putting more money in savings. Collecting is also getting bored and repetitive.
The space in my room has finally reached its limit. I decided to end the purchase of statues for the last time with PCS Kitana. But I have no intention of quitting collectors. I will start again someday. For me, the statue is a treasure of the heart.
Great vid Chris. For me, at least as of right now, I don't feel "burned out". My collection continues to bring me joy. It is still a stress reducer, not an anxiety trigger. Yes, price points and shipping costs and waiting times and display space and storage space for the boxes are major concerns for most of us collectors. But, luckily, I don't feel burned out. At least not yet.
this hobby of ours dose, over the years produce a few negative feelings , like you said, the increasing costs and space ,but new characters that i'm pleased with are finally getting released . my main gripe is i haven't the spare space to keep the boxes that i need for resale , so i am keeping them , not that i mind for i love what i have got , but still the buzzes far out weigh the negatives and when i look back over the years its been a great time collecting and still very much is.
Hey Chris. Thanks for another great video. Yes I have officially stopped collecting. I am happy with what I have, I’m stopping mainly because of price and space.
How I over come burnout is I go in hard with collecting thing and when I am tired of it I just move on to something else and come back when the passion returns lol, I currently collect Statues which now is down to 2 since I sold all my SideShows and now exclusively do XM Studios (currently Marvel only but looking at DC) and I also collect sneakers which I have now slowed down on and now returning to Statues.
I'm actually pretty excited for the Future, now that we are getting finally 1/4-Scales of TwoFace and Penguin. I'm all in and looking foward, when it comes to Tweeterhead and Sideshow. On the other Hand, I'm pretty done, when it comes to 1/3-Scale-Statues ... those Prices are just Nuts. Really bad is the After-Market ... nobody is buying anything and it's really hard to sell any Statues
For me, the burnout is the wait times. I only buy 1/12 th size because of space and budget. I've been waiting over 2 years for a couple of Batman Mezco pieces. That's a bummer. Take care or yourself BSC, we don't need daily content from you. Just bring the fire when you have it. Be well!
I wouldn’t say I had collector burnout. But like the last 6-8 months I haven’t really bought anything and I had one thing come in which was a Star Wars hot toy that I haven’t even opened. I didn’t really engage in any of the community or watch much collectors on TH-cam like yourself. However I then saw the new penguin and then I looked at what other PF’s sideshow had released and then I saw the new amazing joker. And a flip switch and then I became reignited. Then the two face got announced by tweeterhead and Chris teasing us that some companies are doing lesser known villains and that got me super excited. I think me having a small space helps but is also stressful, as I love a lot of different franchises. Like DC, Marvel, Star Wars and various video games so I’ve had to really streamline my collection. Ive organised myself. Made a spreadsheet of what I want, what I have on pre order. What I would be happy to let go if I needed the money and needed the space. So I’m getting 1/4 Batman villains. I’ve found space for 1 and MAYBE 2 1/3 so I’ve ordered the detective 1000 Batman. I’ve sold all my marvel 1/4 other than my Spider-Man and miles and I’ve made space for the last of us Ellie. And I still have a few Star Wars 1/6 but they’re the first to go if I NEEDED the money or space. So right now I’m just getting the stuff I want that’s already out there. I’ve pre ordered the stuff I want and I’m happy with my direction. I’ve covered all bases (DC, Marvel, Star Wars and video games (last of us being my favourite) and now I’m not stressed about collecting at all.
I stopped because my bills increased, but also because I kinda have the very best statues of my favorite characters already. I can't fathom Sideshow coming out with a better Gambit or Colossus or Nightcrawler anytime in the near future. And I think my 1:3 Aquaman is probably the only 1k+ I'll ever buy. I just feel sorta...satisfied for now.
I do consider myself one of those “high end” collectors you mentioned. Mainly buying XM and P1. Something I do is limit myself to collecting just a handful of lines/franchises and a total of no more than 10 pieces/POs a year
On eBay everyone is trying to flip statues for big returns on older statues, small statues. I'm new to collecting but i'm not exactly a collector i do it for décor in my space.
I think for me it's the lack of any good Batman content coming out of DC/WB to keep me excited about the brand. The Batman was good but not as good as the dark knight films and Arkham was 7 years ago now. It's great to watch the old stuff but I feel like when the good entertainment dries up, I start to get burnt out although I'll always love Batman.
I don’t know if I’m completely burned out from collecting. But I am running out of space, and I’m still trying to pay off my last statue, (which I know I overpaid for). But as soon as that is paid off, I’m looking to buy one more statue to complete my collection. Hopefully the prices of statues and shipping will go down by then. 🤞🏽
Since covid there are indeed many collectors that leave the hobby. I said it a few times, but for me personally the biggest issue is still the high shipping cost. That plus the 22% customs fee. For example I love Sideshow. But I don't buy direct anymore. International customers get a 25 dollar code after a purchase, but we have to be honest. For example when you pay 450 dollar shipping and 230 dollar customs, then a 25 dollar code doesn't do much. The aftermarket isn't what it used to be. The higher prices of the statues, I think at one point there has to be a sealing. The prices has to stop sometimes. I really love all the higher end stuff. But I don't own a silicone statues and that won't happen in the future. I really love all those high end companies but I'm not sure if those 4k busts or 3k silicone statues help the community. I read comments online where people ( high end collectors ) were destroying and talking about a new 1/6 statue that a collector bought and posted. He loved the 1/6 scale and that's his price point, but the toxic behavior made him leave the community. Those are really sad stories. That's one reason why I always stayed away from social media for so long. At your channel we mostly respect each other and are mostly positieve. There are still positive things. LBS had great news, Sideshow making new characters, TH does amazing stuff, Weta JL line is great, Prime 1 does fenomenal work. But covid, higher shipping, higher cost, toxic people, bigger boxes, space problems,...Those are indeed the issues. And to be honest I don't think that we will get back to a world pre covid. But we can only hope. Collecting statues can be such a great and inspiring hobby. That's the reason that we ❤ it so much.
interesting topic .if you high end collecting .high shipping goes with the high end collecting .you dont buy a mini and except ecomany in fuel if you buy a ferrie sorry spelling you not going get as much mile to yor buck in fuel .you collect beautiful art .it goes with hobby
I hope they stop doing Iron Man then I can get out completely 😂 prices have led to burnout for me. Locking up a bulk of my cash into a PO and then getting a double whammy with shipping later makes it less fun and more stressful.
Bro... if you are burnt out just sit in the Batcave and bask in all the artistic glory you are surrounding yourself with. Think of all the people who know NOTHING of these things and how the content gets people engaged. Enjoy your collection! Understand most men do not have wives to enable us and our nerdhood. It is a blessing! Lol! Take a week off from the channel. The numbers drop at first. Then when you come back, they spike. Follow the ebb and flow. You can shine a Bat signal at midnight all night long but it does not matter how bright it is... it is still night. In other words, you can't force it and have it be authentic. However, what you are doing got me started in this hobby. This channel specifically. So, you are doing great! For resources and statues to start moving more people have to get into the hobby. That is why channels like this are so important.
@@BatmanStatueCollector yeah man! It can't become a job. Keep it fun. Take some time to vary upload frequency when you come back. Believe it or not uploading daily can bring numbers way down. Experiment and upload in a way that brings most success. More is not better. Hahahaha! I mean I make money giving advice like this. I also have an enabling wife that supports my every path into nerdome. You have it made. I have it made. Life is wonderful isn't it!??! Now go get that 1/3rd scale Michael Keaton Batman/Bruce Wayne set and celebrate!
So many companies now pushing so much at once. Price is getting crazy. Shipping is really expensive. Nothing seems special or very limited in the 1/6 companies. Then when they do make one people complain. 😂 I collect Hot Toys Sideshow Prime 1 Queens Studio XM But really tired of the same figures getting remade over and over again. Over it. Would like to see Natural Born Killers in any size. The Lost Boys Night Breed Just give me some cool stuff that hasn’t been done a million times.
Burn out is really. I've dialed back my collection substantially. For me its the price, shipping costs and the lack of character diversity in the market. All I ever see is a spidererman, batman, supes and wolverine. I'm happy for people who are getting into collecting, but I'll be only buying what really connects to me 100%
I'm not burned out or anything and price isn't a factor more the less, the only thing that gets me in a slump and bored is the time having to wait for a item. I collect hot toys and have some statues, but mostly it's hot toys because they put up items for pre-order and you literally seems like you have to wait years for that figure and that gets a little old to me. I have so many pre-orders that still haven't come in from 2021 and so forth!!!
Taking a week off I think is a good idea at some point. Just mentally like you said take a week away from TH-cam and just got on vacation or whatever. Don't want the channel to feel like work, it's gotta be fun for you:)
For me it’s 100% down to cost, I split my hobby between manga & statues/figures, last year I spent around €12,000 on manga, and around €11,000 on statues. I think the economy is going to collapse so I have to cut down my spending and I’m just putting a hold on statues, I’ll still be buying manga, because it’s my main hobby and how I spend most of my free time reading.
Prime 1's WW vs Hydra blew my budget and as a consequence my purchases for this year has slowed right down. The statue itself was expensive enough but I was expecting that. What I didn't account for was the astronomical shipping and customs I had to pay to get her. Could have gotten 2 1/3rd statues for the amount of money I had to pay and that is ludicrous. Putting the brakes on from this point forward.
Honestly, I'm going to close out my statue collection once "they" release the right Two-Face piece. After that, I'm only gonna keep up with my vintage comics/retro-gaming collection. *Probably the last year I'll purchase NEW DC/Marvel trades as well.
I'm kind of burned out due to the factors you mentioned - money, space, same characters repeated. But another big reason for me is my focus on action figures in which Hasbro and Mattel have kind of caught on to catering to adult collectors. And Super7 are expensive but I like the variety of characters they make with their Thundercats, TMNT and GI JOE lines. Or NECA with their cartoon accurate TMNT line. And then there's MOTU Origins and Masterverse. But my all time current favorite is GI Joe Classified which is going strong. Unfortunately, GI Joe doesn't do great in the statue world. I think if statue company's are not going to lower their prices, they need to vary their character selection but I understand that can be difficult as they have to have enough sales to make it worth it. I even hesitated to order Penguin, due to the overall price and unknown shipping and he is my favorite Batman villain. But I will always collect toys/statues in some capacity. My collection is an extension of who I am and what I love.
I have to say yes and no on saturation. it just depends on the product if it's an amazing piece like the LBS Hulk coming out early next year. I believe it'll sell I'm actually looking at it myself it might even be my grail Hulk. But then you have a lot of just meh🤷 pieces in the market which hurts the anticipation of another Hulk piece.
Collectors spoke with their wallets- and enough people still keep buying, despite inflated costs and shipping fees. So I think this is the new norm. If people are paying these prices, logistically, why would the companies LOWER prices?
I have 9 pieces so my burnout is a few years away but at some point I had 35 statues and sold everything but one and back then never felt a collector burnout... But I wonder if you and the guys from Rogue's Gallery think that one day you will say "that's it, I don't want more statues" and sell most of your collection and keep maybe 5 or 6 statues? Is there an end to how you feel about it?
Personally, I am out I’ve been burned out for a while now and everything that you mention in the video to be honest, hit the nail on the head for me.
Yikes that customs fee is killer!
interesting topic .if you high end collecting .high shipping goes with the high end collecting .you dont buy a mini and except ecomany in fuel if you buy a ferrie sorry spelling you not going get as much mile to yor buck in fuel .you collect beautiful art .it goes with hobby
Sometimes it's great to just stop and smell the roses.
I collect
Hot Toys
Sideshow
Prime 1
Queens Studio
XM
But really tired of the same figures getting remade over and over again. Over it.
Would like to see
Natural Born Killers in any size.
The Lost Boys
Night Breed
Just give me some cool stuff that hasn’t been done a million times.
I think that's what's going to be happening, companies are having to pivot a bit!
Agree.
To finish our PO s and me and my wife are out, for us it's too expensive. If shipping is less money, we would keep collecting
I limited my collection, because of the quality. I collected the batman 2022 figures and vehicles from MacFarlane and found the quality control poor
Not worth collecting if the quality is horrible!!
True Funko Pop have gone similar on some
TAKE A BREAK , WE'LL BE HERE WHEN YOU COME BACK ⚔️🛡
Taking a week off I think is a good idea at some point. Just mentally like you said take a week away from TH-cam and just got on vacation or whatever. Don't want the channel to feel like work, it's gotta be fun for you:)
It often starts to feel like work, and I don't want to disappoint anyone, but I think some breaks might be due :)
I had BO and now started collecting pop mart. I had price BO
Funko Pops?
@@BatmanStatueCollectorthere are over 1M FPs lol would never collect those.
Pop Mart- chinese small figures. They look good. Check them out.
Nope just got my joker on throne. I'm so ecstatic
Such a great piece, congrats!!
When I'm burnout I start selling stuff.
Yep, then you have money for more when the desire hits.
Sounds like you could use a week off from all this. I say go for it. It's better than a burnout!
Burnout might be because buying too many to much in a short amount of time
Absolutely
