Hi team! 💜 Hope you enjoyed the setup, even if it was a little outside of the usual! It was fun getting to try some different techniques and get outside (lol) of my comfort zone 💪 Would love to hear about the theme you're thinking of going with for the month ahead! 😄
Wow, this theme works so well. :o I love that the decorative text and illustrations are on brown pen rather than black, it blends so nicely with the aged look of the paper, being subtle but still being readable.
Best thing I can say for adding water to 160gsm notebooks is multiple layers are 100% the way to go. Seriously, whilst doing multiple layers can be time consuming you can get way better coverage and colour brightness. I’ve added 5+ layers and it hasn’t bled through and I’ve done one wetter layer and it gone straight through.
Even though chemsitry gave me a lot of bi-weekly dread in high school (I was mathematically and scientifically challenged!), this spread was so nostalgic for me - it gave me MAJOR school history project vibes when I would want to tea stain pages for diaries and posters and all sorts of things for 💫REALISM💫 Also we had a chemistry teacher in high school who had big 'let's go outside and set fire to things and see what happens' energy which definitely wouldn't fly today but this video really reminded me of her! All that being said, I love how this set-up turned out. One of my 101 things for 2023 is to do an 'out of my comfort zone' BuJo theme and you've really inspired to maybe think of something I can utilise tea staining for which would definitely make my inner child very happy! x
@@JashiiCorrin my mind’s been ticking this afternoon and I’m thinking for the first month of ‘spring’, March (it’ll still be bloody freezing!), a kind of Hobbit/LotR vibe with tea stained, torn pages!
I am *obsessed* with this tea stained look. I am rewatching how you did it with a view to staining a whole journal as I just adore that old treasure map kinda vibe 💚💜 🗺️
Livin la vida of chaos by setting your actual journal on fire!! My anxiety was through the roof when you literally put the match up to your torn pages. Payoff was so worth it though, those dark edges are magnificent! Well and truly... lit ❤🔥🔥
Lol yeah my camera ran out of battery; I thought it was charging! 😝 but I’m glad we didn’t quite get to the burning on the stream, otherwise my office would smell like smoke 😅
If anyone gets bored with their bujos definitely look up junk journals a lot of crafter have great ideas that can be incorporated into bujos. And it helps w/ my perfectionism. Trying to not give a heck actually turns out better than I would've done Trying to be perfect. AND Making junk journals that's actually have purpose besides art. Or making my day to day life into art is just *chef kiss* for my soul.
It makes me so nervous to even contemplate setting up my February pages before January is over - I'd much rather set the pages on fire! This theme came out amazing and I love it so much!
Thanks! 😄💜 yeah, the hardest thing about setting up the next month before the current month is over is when you’re using daily logs and you need to kind of guess how many pages you’ll need to finish the month off 😝 hopefully I have enough!
the tea staining is so effective! I've made my own tea stained paper and stuck it in for decoration's sake, but not done something like this. The lighter coloured notes are a great touch, makes it look like the ink aged.
I loved this. The idea of themes based on random holidays but not major ones is cool. And I've done tea stained pages and burnt paper in junk journals and art journals but not my bullet journal. Very inspiring and it came out beautifully.
This is such an amazing theme! I love everything about it. I know it is not your usual color palette, but it came out amazing. I hope you enjoy using it. I am definitely doing this theme.
This is one of the most gorgeous themes I've ever seen- from you or anyone else in the bujo community! But it's so labor intensive and time consuming I'd definitely use it on a longer month, LOL.
You inspired me so much to work hard in my bullet journal. From different spreads to fun themes. I even bought myself an A&O bujo to try it out. My themes this year are also novel holidays. I always enjoy your videos. I hope you'll keep making videos because you are so much more genuine than other bujo TH-camrs.
You are incredible!!! I am amazed AGAIN that you have found another new & exciting way to create your monthly bujo pages!! Sensational effects!! everything worked so well together! I love how you added your chemistry expertise! 😉
For me, it would be a big "trust the process", but the end result look incredibly good. The brown pen and the detail in thin lines make it feel liek a well used research journal you might find in the library with a thick layer of dust. With the burnt edges, maybe a survivor. I love it.
Oh wow Jess, this turned out absolutely amazing. I never thought of actually staining the pages in my journal. I always make the paper and stick it in - maybe I'll give this a try for my potions themed month coming up later this year. Great video as always, thank you :)
I absolutely loooove this set up theme! Makes me want to do one that's history themed (my college degree) with appropriate doodles or notes. You nailed this one
This theme looks so good!! I love the burned edges. I did that once in my bujo, but my theme was treasure maps & I used water color to color the pages. The tea color looks much nicer, though! The water colors got way too dark in some spots lol I might try that theme again with the tea-stained pages instead. 🖤
Hehe you did it! My Gosh this turned out so beautiful! I really love the similar color pen for all the background doodles, really added a nice effect. My favorite one so far!
This is so great! The next time you want to burn the edge of the pages, try using a candle, it is more controllable than matches. Thanks for all your posts, I'm enjoying your work very much.
Instead of burning the edges, you can use Tim Holtz Distress ink - the dark brown ones - i dabbed my stamp pad on the edges but there is a spray kind now. I think dabbing is more controlled though. I did it for 50 bday invitations and was pretty easy
I'm super in love with this layout though I'm watching this in April. I was watching your multiple journals video and had to look up how you made these February pages look so good. I watched the live but we know what happened there so here I am!
absolutely stealing this idea!! I love how you used your own expertise/background in chemistry; as an english literature teacher, I think I’ll do the same thing with more of a literature theme!! thanks for the inspo!!
This was so much fun! I've always wanted to do a treasure map theme and this is exactly what I'm going to use your tea-stain and burning method for. Totally inspired thanks for sharing with us.
This is sooo cool :o I searched through several of your videos before I found this one, because I spotted these pages in another video and was really hoping for a tutorial - and there it is! If you’re into this style I can highly recommend ‚distress ink’ ink pads. They make it very easy to weather pages without getting them wet or warped. Burning the edges however really finished that look, I‘ll definitely try that out. :D
That set up turned out amazing! It definitely has the look you where going for! And I loved the kind of netflix documentary vibes in the beginning of the preview when you set your BuJo on fire 😂 Great video - as always 🔥😊
Wow! I really like the look of the ripped pages. I'll have to do that someday! Funny thing: I didn't know you can tea stain your actual journal. I always make special pages for this and glue them in and when I saw your process I feel a little bit dump :-( Very awesome! Thank you!
Love this, I often use Tim Holtz Distress Oxide vintage photo to ink my edges. The burning looks nice, but I'm not coordinated enough to do that technique.
That’s fair 👏 I tried to use markers before settling on just burning the paper as it was the most straight forward way for me (and my art skills, hahaha 😂)
I had several panic attacks and shakes of my head watching this, but I do think it turned out wonderful. It was very creative. It isn't something you'll ever find me doing, but kudos to you.

Loved the theme so much definitely recreating it in future months 💜 Glad the burning thing went well I was like please don’t burn the house or the journal Would love to see how you would make weeklies for this theme
Thanks! 😄💜 I’m probably going to continue with daily logging rather than doing weekly set ups, so they should look fairly similar to what I had in January, just without the ducks haha 😂
Wow! It turned out very nice. I hope you still incorporate this style into your pirate (treasure map) theme.. & yes, I added the map part for future inspo! Excited to see what you do as far as that’s concerned!! (If you aren’t into the burning, I just used my ink pad around the rough edges) Cheers to a new month (that didn’t take 52 days to arrive.. unlike February 2021 😂)!
I did a pirate theme in my bullet journal this month, and my calendar is a treasure map, on (fake) parchment paper with burned edges :) I had to burn them inside because my matches kept blowing out outside, but was super careful :)
I love the effects but in my country, at my home (old building), the Journal would gain mold for sure. This winter is getting to a point that i had to change the place of a lot of books and decor, now imagine a paper that had contact with tea. But that's my experience, i do understand that houses and weather are different for everyone, and the end result is gorgeous!
Thanks! I'm holding my breathe RE: the tea vs mold (hoping for good things, haha) 💜 If it turns into a mess, I'll archive it by the way of pictures and videos, and then dispose of it when finished with 😝 Better that then having a moldy journal in my collection 👏
@@JashiiCorrin who knows, maybe it will end up without any issues. Here it's really complicated even for normal books, but that's here, each county have it's own characteristics. If you usually don't have mold issues in other things, you're probably safe!
