You talking to the isopods influenced my 3yr old granddaughter to get an isopod stuffed animal. People are amazed she knows what it is, and what it does. Great teacher!

I started during early COVID with my gardening and found a worm channel. Bought 1/2 pound of red wrigglers and a 5 gallon bucket. Now I have about 12 bins and share castings. Glad to take on this hobby. Just finished a master gardener course and will set up worm composting bins at the county extension. 😊

Started raising worms when I began to garden 5 years ago. Can not remember which videos I followed, but they were mostly wrong in my opinion, drilling holes in lids, covering with widow screen, on and on. Right now my favorite bins are my 50 gal grow bags, and I think my home made 55 gal drum CFT bin will rank right up there.
Most of my learning has come with trial and error, I do get good direction from you, Patrick, Peggy, Samantha and Jane to name a few. One thing I learned with my pest control business is that I will never know everything, and to keep an open mind.
Have a good day! Tomorrow is the 1st day of SPRING!!!!

I read worm eat my garbage years ago. At that time I just wanted to reduce my garbage. I wasn't very successful, so I abandoned the effort. In 2020 (like many others) I became more serious about producing my own food. Remembering the worms, I turned to TH-cam (not even a thing when I tried the 1st time). My favorite channels are yours and Rockin' Worms. Both have been very helpful.

after failing twice in totes and then in buckets i found worms at the bottom of a years old leaf pile. inspired by Nicole Masters use of half barrels i thought I'd imitate nature and layer compost and leaves to give home to my worms. And that combination of larger container and pre-composted bedding worked for me.

I started with a tower system but the trays are huge and take a lot to get it done. And I find that for me it doesn’t need my attention span lol
So I went to just trays/ buckets. And I have the euros in a bucket as it’s deeper for them and my red wiggler era are in trays& under the bed boxes the aim is to. Make a wedge system in there but not enough worms yet for that, so atm it’s breeding them up I’m concentrating on.

Ugh. Gnats. When I get a bin infestation of gnats I take the bin outdoors for a few weeks and leave the lid off. The adults don't stick around long enough to lay their eggs back in the bin. If the weather is too chilly, I can put the bin in my greenhouse or use mosquito bits in the water indoors. Vacuuming before you open the lid also reduces a lot of the adults that might otherwise escape to your house! 🪰
