    They look amazing despite the cold temperature. They will make trough the winter time and they will "explode" in spring

    Looking good in there, I just pulled the trigger on some ENC cocoons and I’m excited to see how long it takes to get some chonky fellers like those. Good luck on trapping your interloper!

    Nice video Ann,
    I love your stories along the way.
    Oo...mucous! Just incase we ever want an iridescent look to our makeup 🤣
    Potatoes rotting 🤯 I would definitely stick that in a plastic bag and freeze it before putting it in the bin. My bin is in my kitchen so I am REALLY careful about smells.
    Old Worm 🪱 stories...how funny 😁

      The potato did smell when they went in Luckily they don't smell now. Good worms!!

    Definitely going to look out for retired worms now !!! I do grab some chunky ones regularly to treat my chickens , mainly because the large ones are easier to handle. Not the retirement they were looking forward to I guess ^^

    Great update and I love the trivia. I did not know about older worms losing their reproductive organs. Now I'm going to have to keep an eye on my euros when I go through the bins next time because I know some of them are up there in age. I guess that would be wormopause 🤔😂.
    I wonder how long they live after their reproductive abilities end? I guess they still produce castings even if they can't produce babies so they're not useless.
    Yep the critters come in my basement in the winter too I've had mice and even rats come in. The absolute worst was when I had a family of shrews in the basement, because they're sole diet is earthworms. They eat nothing other than earthworms so all the worms immediately got taken out of the basement until I managed to get those extinguished. Nothing some traps doesn't take care of. When it's so darn cold outside and there is so much warmth and food inside critters will do almost anything to get in. Right now I've taken all my worms out of the basement and have them in my bedroom and dining room. The basement is just way, way too cold It's an old drafty house and the basement right now is in the upper 40s. It wouldn't kill the worms but it would stop them from doing anything productive and that's not going to get me what I need.
    Aren't rotten potatoes amongst the stinkiest things on earth? Have you ever had a bag of potatoes that actually rotted in the plastic bag and went a bit liquidy - And when you picked it up you got a whiff🤢🤢🤢
    Oh my goodness it's one of the worst smells ever. Fortunately when the nasty food is buried we don't smell it and the worms don't care 👍

      Yes last year I had a rat and it took out quite a few worms until it was dispatched. Right now it seems.to be mice. I have caught voles in the basement before. The book said the last 6 months to a year is when wormapause hits. Then they get smaller skinny and they become part of the castings.

    Hey there, I have a question for you.. it seems that whenever I buy night crawler worms( not sure if they’re European or not) they always die, even when I have them indoors. Any idea why? Thx

    • @PlantObsessed
      @PlantObsessed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say if your house is comfortable for you the Euros should be fine if they have the right conditions. Where are you located?

      @@amazonraw-she-uh4439 I would look to see if you can get some European nightcrawlers from a local person. If you get them from a bait store they might be Canadian Night Crawlers and they don't always do well in a bin. Most of the time people struggle with worm bins due to moisture and over feeding. Keep trying. There are Facebook groups for worms. Maybe if you ask in one of them, someone local to you would get you some good compost worms.

    Worms can live for 3-6 years naturally, so not sure how long you’ve had your worms? If you haven’t had them 5-6 years, then you may have not seen them naturally age to death yet. Maybe it will start happening soon.

    • @PlantObsessed
      @PlantObsessed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The uncle Jim's mix worms are over 3 years old. The rest are about 2 or 3 years.

      @@PlantObsessed so likely you don’t yet have enough of an older population that you could notice it? It will be interesting when it happens. Most worm distributors send their “new stock’, not their breeders.
