I like my parents rule. 1. You can have a an I-pad/tablet if you are 10 or older.
2. You can have a phone if you are in middle school and up.
3. You have to EARN your cellphone, so you need to work and get the money to buy it.

awww my god i might cry, that kid is so intelligent and mature and you can feel the genuine mutual love and respect from the child and mother and it's so beautiful.
I’m happy her mom won, it was the right decision :)). But I love how mature Phoebe is to the fact that she lost :)).
It makes perfect sense for a young child to have a mobile phone for emergency purposes. The point that WE didn’t have them at that age isn’t a logical enough reason to continue that trend. These days we are fortunate enough to have incredibly useful technology that is readily available to us. Why dodge the option of having a direct line of communication between you and your child?
Back when cell phones were newer, the popular opinion was that kids shouldn’t get their own phone until they reach a certain age or level of maturity. But that was when cell phones were seen only as a luxury, and weren’t yet seen as a necessity.
You’re probably still thinking about the fact that kids used to survive and get along just fine without mobile phones. That may be true for the most part, but I’d be willing to bet that having a cell phone for emergencies could save a considerable number of children from dangers like abduction.
If you can easily afford to provide your child a with a cell phone, then why risk their safety by withholding a potentially life-saving resource? If the goal is to ensure that they hold onto their innocence, then it makes even MORE sense to send them out into the world readily equipped with a phone. Prioritizing your child’s safety in this way just might protect them from the corruption of their innocence. I shudder to give thought to the possibility that someone could take that from them.

I think i got a phone at 15 years old and now im 25, i do agree with her mom because i felt the differences before and after i had one. Before that, i always play with my friends without thinking too much about real world. But once i had it, i remembered that my life was changing. I started to know about grown up stuff and real life about, then i realize im so glad that i didnt have one before high school.

When I got my first phone, I was 13 years old and legit it was a flip phone (I don’t remember the brand of the phone but it was the kind of phone where you slide up to get the keyboard) and I didn’t get my first smart phone until I was 15 years old (which was an IPhone 5 I think) so I don’t know what an 8 year old would need a phone for? She could totally get a phone and set restrictions in the settings for certain apps, internet access, and time limits or just get a simple cheap starter flip phone that only allows calling or texting. That’s what my parents did anyway 🤷♀️
Well, it really depends on how responsible you think you kid is. My parents didn’t restrict anything and left the responsibility for my innocence to me.

@@iheartrnb5697 For safety purposes. When I was younger my parents had to work a bit later so I would be in the house alone for an hour or two after school. They wanted me to have a way to contact them or emergency services if needed so they got me a simple phone that was only texting and calling.

what if the children have a special cellphone? like in Japan, Japanese children have special cellphones that can only call or text 10 people and can be a hazard tracking device for example if you press a button or pull something on the cellphone (sorry because I forgot what button it is) it will give 10 people who are on the contact list *danger alert sms* for example to parents, grandparents, even teachers which I think is good for safety

When I was younger my teacher told our class that if you didn't have a phone then that was a sign of trust from your parents that you were responsible enough to let them know where you were when out with friends. He was a parent, and idk if it worked on his kid but i went without one for until i was 14.
i honestly don't get that logic. if i don't have a phone to call someone i'm not allowed to go out alone and having something so expensive is a big responsibility so i feel like getting a phone is a sign that your parents think you're mature.

I agree with mom to be honest. I got my first phone at 13, I was gonna turn 14 the next day. And I needed the phone for after school activites, like telling my parents I need to stay after school for a project or I'm going to the library with friends. I don't think you'd really need a phone at 8, because for one your parents aren't going to leave you alone in any public place and also if you even had any after school plans you'd need permission from you parents because of how young you are, and most of your after school activties that are school related are planned beforehand, like soccer, basketball, baseball, ect. And as for after school projects, I'd doubt you'd have a lot or any at the age of 8, and even if you did it'd most likely be planned beforehand. But this is just my opinion!
