She could totally get a phone and set restrictions in the settings for certain apps, internet access, and time limits or just get a simple cheap starter flip phone that only allows calling or texting. That’s what my parents did anyway 🤷♀️
Well, it really depends on how responsible you think you kid is. My parents didn’t restrict anything and left the responsibility for my innocence to me.
@@iheartrnb5697 For safety purposes. When I was younger my parents had to work a bit later so I would be in the house alone for an hour or two after school. They wanted me to have a way to contact them or emergency services if needed so they got me a simple phone that was only texting and calling.
Just discovered this channel after many years. Phoebe has grown up so much. She was such a cute and wise little talker back then, and still is. Love her.
When I was younger my teacher told our class that if you didn't have a phone then that was a sign of trust from your parents that you were responsible enough to let them know where you were when out with friends. He was a parent, and idk if it worked on his kid but i went without one for until i was 14.
i honestly don't get that logic. if i don't have a phone to call someone i'm not allowed to go out alone and having something so expensive is a big responsibility so i feel like getting a phone is a sign that your parents think you're mature.

@@Ninniii45 yeah lol 😂😂😂 and my friend's parents say that they got thier phone at 29 or something so they say that my friend will get her own phone at 20- like...
It makes perfect sense for a young child to have a mobile phone for emergency purposes. The point that WE didn’t have them at that age isn’t a logical enough reason to continue that trend. These days we are fortunate enough to have incredibly useful technology that is readily available to us. Why dodge the option of having a direct line of communication between you and your child? Back when cell phones were newer, the popular opinion was that kids shouldn’t get their own phone until they reach a certain age or level of maturity. But that was when cell phones were seen only as a luxury, and weren’t yet seen as a necessity. You’re probably still thinking about the fact that kids used to survive and get along just fine without mobile phones. That may be true for the most part, but I’d be willing to bet that having a cell phone for emergencies could save a considerable number of children from dangers like abduction. If you can easily afford to provide your child a with a cell phone, then why risk their safety by withholding a potentially life-saving resource? If the goal is to ensure that they hold onto their innocence, then it makes even MORE sense to send them out into the world readily equipped with a phone. Prioritizing your child’s safety in this way just might protect them from the corruption of their innocence. I shudder to give thought to the possibility that someone could take that from them.
I side with the mom. I feel the child is to young to have a phone.(coming from a person who got their first hand me down phone at 10) I mean my friend told me in his childhood home his neighbor (he was six) had a phone. And he would eat fast just to do what ever on in. The points she (the mom) brought up are good.
Just because you didn´t have that stuff at the time, doesn´t mean, that that age is young. I was 4 years old and I got my first phone, the phone was with me till 1st grade (till age 7) and that phone still works perfectly, I´m sure she would be independent and would take good care of the phone.
@@-_Bel_- I'm 12 and I only got a phone when I was 11. I don't really mean to offend u but giving a 4 year old a phone is straight up bad parenting. You shouldn't expose young children to the internet it ruins childhoods. It's not about taking care of the phone it's about what they're seeing on the internet, which could be highly inappropriate, especially for age 4!!! I don't know what your parents were thinking!!! It's just bullshit to give a 4 year old a phone or anyone under 11.
CottonCloud ASMR But it matters how you use it. I was 8 when I got a phone but I didn’t get to have social media until I was 11. It was also so tiny and didn’t have a lot of memories. All I did was calling my parents if I needed to, calling or textning my friends on when we were going to play, and played games like candy crush. I also didn’t get to play games or watch movies until 6:20 pm, so I wasen’t on my phone that much.
@@cottoncloud0987 11 is too young. You are still in elementary school then. If you want to be a responsible person with a phone, you should only get it when you absolutely need it. Wait till you get 18, when you leave your city to go to university. My parents told me I'm not getting a phone until 14. My 10-year old self was like you, thinking "Why?", but now, I understand why. In fact, I've seen my classmates, they are all phone addicts. I don't want to be like them. I'm 13, turning 14 in two weeks, and my parents wanted to get me a phone on my 14th birthday, but I refused it, just because I don't want to be like my classmates, who are 24/7 phone addicts. Don't fall into that trap, only get a phone when you absolutely need it.

"She has to wait 2 years" Oh wow- When I was eight, my mom promised me to have a phone if I'm in high school for only searching purposes... But her mom's decision was right tho. Cuz if you give a child a phone, they'll probably looking at the screen 24/7. And MAYBE, they might cause drama in social media... 💩
How are people okay with a tiny little child having a phone? Phoebe's arguments are actually really good but I would still not allow a kid, especially an 8 year old to have a phone.
I assume that the supervision and restrictions that the parent puts on the device make the difference. So the question after whether they can afford it or not is: would the kid even want to use the thing with all of the restrictions her parent would put on it? Don't forget, Phoebe already had an iPad.

She can borrow her mothers phone.
what’s the point of having the phone then…
@@iheartrnb5697 For safety purposes.
Love her.
^^
When I was younger my teacher told our class that if you didn't have a phone then that was a sign of trust from your parents that you were responsible enough to let them know where you were when out with friends. He was a parent, and idk if it worked on his kid but i went without one for until i was 14.
i honestly don't get that logic. if i don't have a phone to call someone i'm not allowed to go out alone and having something so expensive is a big responsibility so i feel like getting a phone is a sign that your parents think you're mature.
@@ellenczhang definitely agree with you. I didnt get a phone until I was 16 but my mom always made me call her whenever I hungout with friends in elementary school using their home phones and got mad if I didn't call her

Girl,girl,.. i have been lost in a mall, and i don’t have a phone when i was your age, i go to the security/customer service and i go and say “can i borrow a cellphone please.. I’m lost” the borrowed it to me, and i call my mom, DONE! Easy!

I’m happy her mom won, it was the right decision :)). But I love how mature Phoebe is to the fact that she lost :)).
1:02 it's literally a win-win situation, I never got a phone when I was 8, OR when I was 10...

@@rosalie6468 thats actually a really good idea! you have amazing parents!!!

@7:26 real disappointment on her face and shock. If we go by the rules the kid won hands down 2--1.
