Sonic 1 Tag Team Adventure is a Sonic the Hedgehog hack made by Jdpense where you are able to control 4 characters at the same time.
This was recorded using overclocked emulator to reduce lag.

I like how this features the 5 core main cast members. The main 4 with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy against Eggman. The fanbase often forgets (or outright ignores) Amy as one of the core members despite the fact she's just as featured as Tails and Knuckles (especially with how they go back and forth with Amy/Knuckles appearance) you could call this the classic Sonic Heroes.
It's probably because she was never playable in the Genesis era
That's mostly bc on classic Amy is just a damsel in distress, she doesn't do much until Sonic Adventure
@@ChristopherSMD I was speaking from Adventure onward though this still continued with her not being as considered. She was the spin-off character outside of CD for sure (though she's still considered a classic character)
@@spicybreadproductions1972 I was speaking from Adventure era onward. And even so she was still as marketed alongside the other three as a core member. Adventure basically just made it more known due to her more frequent appearances that weren't just spin offs.
Even so it doesn't discredit the fact she still acts as the number 4 in Sonic's group. For me this was cemented by Sonic Advance 1.
@@ChristopherSMD She wasn't playable in the mainline games, but she as in the few spin-offs, Sonic the Fighters as a big break through for her because it lead to the design choice of her wielding a piko piko hammer. The idea of her getting one didn't start at Adventure 1.
While she doesn't appear much in the classic titles, her history is quite interesting. She went from damsel, to side character, to main character. I know she went back down to side character, but she certainly made strides from being Sonic's "girlfriend".

The only difference is that Amy is now playable and this is just Sonic 1 that the hack focuses on. As well Sonic having the original 1991 sprite set and Knuckles has yellow shoes.

But they did get it working all the way back in 2013, the current public version, albeit using separate rolling sprites. And no, I don't think debug mode is present

I’m not sure if this would be possible, probably would not but still. I was thinking for the special stages. What if each special stage represented the game they debut in.
Sonic - Sonic 1 special stage
Tails - Sonic 2 special stage
Knuckles - Blue sphere, or bonus stage. Maybe random.
Amy - Sonic CD time stone special stage.

Maybe a Glitch
For years I'd been working on a Sonic 1 hack with many characters including Amy, and I couldn't figure out how to make a palette for Amy that looked good. Damn... I have to say this hack pulled it off pretty well.

And more interestingly, all in Sonic 1.
Sonic Classic Heroes was made with 2 earlier rom hacks, Sonic 1 & 2, which combined all the levels of the first 2 games into 1 game, and Sonic 2 Heroes, which had the 3 player team mechanics.
Those were both coded in Sonic 2, and possibly with Rom size modification, to make it bigger than most normal genesis games. (likely to fit extra features, like save files, and Team Chaotix.)
This however is all within Sonic 1's original engine, limitations and all. It really is quite the technical marvel.

I love co-op games! Ever since Sonic Advance 3 and Sonic Heroes, I always liked when characters had an opportunity to help each other out with their specialties!

This is definitely the best mechanic change mod of Sonic 1. My only problem is Tails’ underwater palette in Scrap Brain 3.
When I was in school during late 1990s, my friend trolled me by giving a fake cheat code that lets you play sonic, tails and knuckles at the same time in S3&K. I fell for it like a big fool lol. And look, now it's possible with hacks.

Really cool hack, but I hope, one day, that hackers will implement a Donkey Kong Country type of partner AI for these large team hacks. I'd imagine that method would do much a better job at keeping the characters together and not spazzing out so much.
Hmm well this could probably be a lot more like the other Sonic Heroes game in 2D which they should have had Amy Rose as the fourth player not the teenager one. I wonder what made him decide to pull this out.

I am praying that this hack works on real Mega Drive hardware, if so then the SEGA Multi-Tap (4 Player) accessory will make this hack truly "Way Past Cool" for all SEGA Genesis collectors.

You know the guy who made this rom hack if so can you ask him to make some improvements over the AI. Because the AI follow each other and not Sonic. Plus they cannot spindash and they jump at the same time instead of one after the other. So if you know the guy who made this rom hack can you ask him to improve over these please?
