If you havent noticed, I take my role as mentor, father, and teacher seriously. This isnt like class where you get a scolding for going off topic or making jokes, I just ban you and you will never be able to ask a question again. You can get away with off topic or funny comments in your classrooms or at work but not here. If you are not interested in engaging in the topic at hand and learning from it then I will block you because you are keeping other people from learning.
You do make a great point. My first significant job, I went out and bought a car. No regrets mind you, but definitely a learning experience. Now a lot smarter, or rather wiser.
PLEASE, share this video with anyone who is heading out today to shop for all those "bargains"!!! Stop them from stepping in the financial quicksand that will doom them to a life of poverty. No, I am not being overly dramatic here, the statistics bear me out.
+scooby1961 This phenomenon dear teacher, was virtually unknown in Sweden 2 years ago. Now Black friday is every where! Consumers are so naive that it is saddening,,,
I can attest, once you get a credit card and just start putting stuff on it, it leads down a slippery slope and next thing you know you are getting loans and getting in more debt to pay for your debt...and it's a lot harder to crawl back out than it is to just avoid credit cards in the first place.
+Tyler Miller As a college student, I get stuff in the mail wanting me to sign up for credit cards. I just say, "Nope. Not going there. That piece of mail can go in the trash."
+Tyler Miller Credit cards are great if you have the will power and common sense to pay off the balance each month. If you start using it to buy things you really cannot afford then it's a recipe for disaster.
+TheCollector if you are a responsible person and have common sense then a credit card can be a great tool. just remember to pay off the balance each month. If you start using it to buy things you cannot afford then that's when you get into trouble. I would suggest getting one card with a very low money limit on it and then carefully manage it. It will be good experience for you. Unless, if you know yourself and feel you just wouldnt be able to handle it and would be spending unwisely, then you shouldn't get one.
TheCollector Yeah, the ability to pay it off is definitely the important part ;). I obviously dont know you but just the fact that you are leary about getting one and thinking of it in a responsible manner leads me to believe that when you do decide to get one you will do just fine :)
all my friends are showing off their purchases on facebook, and they all make fun of me because I'm a minimalist..You'll never find me buying overpriced nonsense I don't need. I sold everything I had, my truck my motorcycle and majority of my valuable possessions. I surf as much as I can and got back in touch with mother nature and the true joys in life. And one thing also changed, I now have more money than all my friends combined ;)
+TheRoot Message You rock!!! Congratulations!!! :) As you understand, some of the most enjoyable activities in the world are VERY CHEAP! Surfing. Playing volleyball. Going hiking. Minimal equipment cost - years of enjoyment. I have a college friend who lived in a cheap apartment and went hiking every single weekend. He retired at age 40, and guess what he is doing? HIKING!
Black Friday, Cyber Monday, these used to be days, now they last for months. I remember when Thanksgiving used to be a family holiday. Now, most of the retailers are open on Thanksgiving day. But you can't blame them. Brick & mortar retailers are competing with the e-tailers, and competition is fierce. If the brick & mortar stores close, we loose lots of jobs, local tax revenue, etc.
You know what is really interesting? I have 500,000 subscribers and only 3% of them are interested in being rich. You would think this would be a more popular topic. Maybe its the title, perhaps "GET RICH FAST" or "WEALTH SHORTCUTS" would get more people to watch :(
+scooby1961 well keep in mind that less than 50% of America does any investing on the stock market and we have the best market to trade on. People are stuck on the idea of working more to get more or but not using money to make money. I think most people wake up around late 20's or 30's but by that time a good amount are married or have children which children cost a lot of money. Financial education is not taught in schools nor is critical thinking and planning.
+scooby1961 That's because most are sold on the thinking that everyone has credit card or debt of some kind and it's ok. My wife and I are in the middle of trying to become debt free and it's not an easy process. Granted most people will listen to a person like you or a video because it's easier to relate to, please keep up the great work on your end. But we found Dave Ramsey's "Complete Money Make Over" was the most helpful for us. Because what we found out that with the little credit card debt we do have makes money purchases more difficult and figuring out which one becomes the priority to pay off first and make paying with cash a priority to slow your spending habits down.
+scooby1961 I mentioned in your first 'rich' video that I thought it was a good topic. I recommend that book 'the millionaire next door' for those who haven't read it. It's about life choices, not technically about making money but spending and finding value in things.
Scooby is certainly a person who lives reasonably, logically, and fully. A person interested in health and well-being is also interested in making sure we don't ruin our lives by making stupid decisions. Thanks Scooby for helping others.
+scooby1961 Right? Black Friday is the biggest crock of shit ever. The deals aren't that good. Those TVs that are 50% off are 1) substandard black friday productions lacking in features and quality, and 2) there's only a limited amount at any store, so it's really a bait and switch tactic... People will go wanting a TV...the special ones are gone...but they're not going to leave without a TV... which might be on sale, but only at 10% off.
+scooby1961 Haha, just look at all the Black Friday stampede videos on TH-cam. Imagine people act like this for a discount only. Think about how these same people would act if something more serious happens such as the electricity stopping for 2 weeks or a month.
+scooby1961 Credit/loans in general are a terrible idea. The illusion of middle/upper class but the income of lower/middle class. My house is paid for as are my vehicles. If I cant pay cash for it than I don't buy it. Obviously you cant get around having a credit card for some purchases. But its paid in full the same month if I do use it. We are a debtors nation and it is disgusting. Its what keeps you a slave to a job you hate, debt...
+scooby1961 Funny thing on Black Friday stores are just selling you stuff at next years prices, stuff they would have to get rid of in 6 months time to make room for new stuff. So if you just wait a few months youll be able to buy the same stuff at Black Friday prices sometimes even less.
Wow thank you so much Scooby for giving this info to the masses. The school system is for herding people to work for someone else, they never teach you this stuff. Can't wait for the next video!
Your the man scooby you give great advice for free and aren't trying to secretly promote anything of your own. Your 100% honest and truthful and a blessing to the World. God bless you sir
BTW, if you want a lot more info like this you can follow my facebook page where I make daily posts rather than weekly posts like I do to TH-cam here. facebook.com/GetFitForFree
+Alex Hamilton hi...i noticed the picture too. It looks like myanmar. The google search term ...myanmar balloon...nearly did the job. Similar pics..i think if you search you will find the orginal foto. Btw..now i realize, the background is a video not a photo :) greetings from germany too
+scooby1961 Well I'm that young guy that just got hired and is making nice pay checks for the first time in my life. So I got married, wasted a ton of money in a big wedding party, I spent so much that I forgot to save for honeymoon. (its no joke). - We decided to rent a small house and just bought a bunch of furniture and fancy TVs/laptops/cellphones for our everyday use. My wife decided to stop working, we have no kids but she "takes care of the house"... I bought a brand new car, then friend of mine and I decided to start a business but it didn't work out so I lost a ton of money, I got a loan from the bank to "rescue" the business but it didn't work out (I still haven't payed for it, it will take me years). I had to start using our credit card for everyday expenses. At work we lost some important clients so the company is not paying any overtime anymore. Please help, wife got used to "not work" - I got used to overtime money -
+Tony Roberts i only buy on credit if i can pay it off right away for the rewards. you can buy on credit but never have debt carried over and i think its worth it. i have 0 credit card debt since i treat my CC like a debit but still get cashback rewards
+Tony Roberts Having a credit card is a great way to build credit as long as you don't pretend its free money. All you have to do with a credit card is spend $15 to $50 a month and pay the bill in full every month. Owing $800 and only making minimum payments wont get you anywhere except in debt
+Kevin Mao I am just saying if you are a typical american making $1500 a month and saving $100 you need two jobs. When you work alot you don't have time to spend money and its easy to save.
+Kevin Mao This is how I feel credit cards should be treated. If you can't pay off the debt in a single payment then you shouldn't use a credit card at all.
Great point, one that I do my absolute best to remind myself every time I'm tempted to buy something. I ask myself "Do I really need it?" or "How will this purchase benefit me in the long run?". If it's something which it's sole purpose is fun or entertainment, like a video game or such (yeah, it's my guilty little pleasure), and I see a huge discount on it, I always make sure to think about this like - OK, the price is great, but can I afford to 'blow away', say 30$, just for kicks - now? It's basic financial management that people, of with me sometimes included, sometimes forget that screws them over. Looking forward to the next videos in the series.
The junk they usually sell on black Friday are low end items anyway. It's better to buy high end stuff that you actually need, and it usually does not go on sale.
In the beginning i subscribed because i wanted to start doing fitness at home, now I stay subscribed because I love listening to your advice! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, you have become kind of a mentor for young people. Greets from Switzerland :)
Couldn't agree more scooby. A great gift to show you care - work. Volunteer to babysit and let your friend or relative have an evening out. Give the gift of "any chore for a day". It's easy to buy something you had no hand in making. Hard work is a much better way to show you care.
Financial literacy is not always influential to how capable one controls his/her spending, but it is a good checklist for self control. I guess the most important thing is to understand the difference between "needs" and "wants". A famous person once said "it is not greed that drives people mad, but entitlement".
Speaking from experience, I used to have a lot of money, then went broke. When I had the money, I had a big fear of being broke. When I became broke, I realized that it wasn't bad. Now I have money again and the fear of being broke is mostly gone. It taught me not to be cheap with myself or others. You can't take your money when you die
I like this quote in relation to money and poverty: "One of the most profound questions we as a society need to ask ourselves is: "What is the social intent?" Should the focus of society be to create and preserve jobs? Or should the focus of society be to maximize production through automation in order to create global abundance? It is either one direction or another, you can't have both. Sadly, what you are seeing in the world today is the deliberate withholding of social efficiency, for the sake of upholding the status quo. This is what our system does. The main reason outside of employment pressures that you do not see technology being liberally used for all purposes imaginable, including generation of food, energy and general material abundance - is because our financial system is based entirely on perpetuation of scarcity and inefficiency. Why? Because it is the most self-preserving and profitable. If a company makes a car that can last 60 years without the need for any service and the car also runs without any need for perpetual refueling and battery power; then the 'aftermarket value' of that car is virtually zero. And billions of dollars would be lost over time, due to the now obsolete consumption markets of oil and automobile service industries. This kind of car could technically be made right now. Why isn't it? Because then the economic system literally couldn't work, if the focus was indeed to create optimum efficiency. Our entire system in an economic sense, is based on constriction. Scarcity and inefficiency are the movers of money. The more there is of any resource, the less you can charge for it. The more problems there are, the more opportunities there are to make money. This reality is a social disease. Because people are actually gaining off of the misery of others and the destruction of the environment. Efficiency, sustainability and abundance are the enemies of our economic structure, for they are inverse to the mechanics necessary to perpetuate consumption. This is profoundly critical to understand, for once you start to put this together, you begin to see that the 1 billion people currently starving on this planet, the endless slums of the poor, and all of the horrors in the culture due to poverty and depravity are not a natural phenomenon, due to some natural human order, or lack of earthly resources. They are products of the creation, perpetuation and preservation of artificial scarcity and inefficiency. This is the realization that can spark a global revolution. " - Peter Joseph
+Strangepete they're often overlooked, but the Amish seem to have it about right. they don't have sky scrapers or giant factories or bankers or shiny new cars. but somehow, they've managed to get by just fine, are not poor and own some of the most gorgeous farm land (and lots of it) in the areas where they reside. they're also not fat, don't have millions on welfare and they take care of their own. the ones who don't want to help others are shunned and don't get help in return. and they also get by without health insurance. do they know something we don't?
Scooby, you're an awesome inspiration and role model. Thanks for all your advice over the years & for being a down to earth guy. So few people like that left these days. Love and respect from a long term fan from the UK
As a professor, I started saying a similar thing to my students. I do not tell them how to get an A, I tell them how to get an F... Don't hand in assignments, don't follow directions, wait until the last minute to study, etc... This is great advice Scooby!
Thanks for the video Scooby! I am a person who tends to save as much as possible, I got it after my dad. But I also never want to be fully like my dad, all he thinks about is what he can save off, which means also eating worse food, etc. He actually finds almost everything unnecessary. I think there's a line in our/my life where I spend money, even for silly stuff and where I save. I just think that the best is to never go on minus, and every month have more, even 10$ in your check. And also to never get a credit card.
+Arise You are very correct! You can error in both directions. Saving and scripting just to save and scrimp is STUPID. You need to have an end game in mind. Dying with millions in the bank is pretty stupid IMO, thats why a few years ago I went from a savings mentality to a buy things I would appreciate and use mentality. Still, very calculated in purchases though.
Best video in the series Scooby, keep it going. It was true for me.. that "little" decision of buying something i couldn't afford.. back in 2004, i'm still paying..
Absolutely spot on Scooby, great video. To add my thoughts, I despair when I see some people take it to another level with these so called black friday "bargains" and physically fight each other over items they don't need. A marketing trick for retailers to offload old stock or sometimes put the prices up beforehand, then reduce them to make it seem like such a good deal.
+Ngamer834 That is the most tragic thing of all and the news tonight will be filled with security camera footage from stores highlighting poor people fighting each other to see who gets the honor of going further in debt.
+SoulBaron As I say on my "how to get rich" page, I am going to give everyone the “secret” for how to get rich and 95/100 of people on TH-cam will decide that its too much work and that they would rather be poor.
I'm glad you made this video on this day. We have more 'luxuries' than ever, yet people are unhappy and miserable and do it to cope with their horrible lives. Happiness comes within.
Just putting together an annual budget for all of 2015 to review my spending. I was surprised by the amount spent on take out food or fast food. I have improved at the last months of 2015, not getting any fast food (both for financial and nutritional reasons). And am hoping to be more financially concious going into 2016. My question is I currently live alone, would it be better to get a roomate and save ~35% on rent. (Rent being the biggest expense. I really like my privacy, so I am not sure.
I have a question unrelated to the video. If you're training for an event, say a marathon or the like, how many days should you give your body to rest before said event?
As a guy who was raised with an actual financial education from my parents and who got into value investing a few years back (The Intelligent Investor by Ben Graham), this video is SO IMPORTANT. Unfortunately, most people just don't want to hear how to spend their money, and would rather try a disastrous get rich quick scheme. Like with body building, these things take time, good principles, and discipline. Looking forwards to the rest of this series!
True, although most of my unnecessary spending is on eating out because I'm a student spending my time at school from 9-9. Don't really feel up to bringing that much to school, but i try to reduce it by eating trail mix and stuff.
This is honestly some solid advice. My father always expressed his distaste from the whole "you're saving so much money in this sale!!!". He also always said the keeping my credit card balance in check was crucial as it's so easy to lose yourself with a credit card and get addicted to buying. And honestly how are you saving money if you buy something?
+Terreos Yep!! We are a nation seeking for ways to rationalize purchasing things we do not need, the "its on sale" is one of the oldest and best excuses there is.
You nailed it Scoob! I had to rewind this a few times for my girlfriend to see. I have been saying this EXACT same thing to her the past few weeks, but she just can't get it through her head. Driving me insane.
+Gold Dee If you cant see eye to eye on savings, money, and retirement I would suggest going your separate ways now because the relationship will not work if one person is always heckling to save and the other is constantly out buying gee-gaws to put on shelves to gather dust.
I know how you feel. It took me a year of our relationship to make my girlfriend change her buying habits. I haven't fully persuaded her yet since she still likes to go out to eat a lot, but she stopped buying materialistic things that serves no value in her life. Have you tried giving her real life examples? Sometimes it's better to show instead of telling them. Next time when she's about to buy something, take out a paper and pen and show her the mistake she'll be making.
Michael Tia Yes I have. Many different times. She wants to spend money on inanimate objects that will do nothing but sit where they are after bought. I am a dj on the side and make about 1000usd a month from djing and need some new equipment, which will pay for itself in the same month if not two. Unlike the things she wanted to buy. One thing was a breast pump lol. I swear I am not joking. She is 4 months pregnant and wanted a breast pump. Money is a bit tight, I told her to wait a few months since she won't really need it for 5 more months but tried to give me every excuse why she needed it now. THE NEXT DAY, an emergency came up that we need the exact amount that she just spent on something that is now sitting in the closet. So, I can't take Scoob's advice and ditch her lol.
scooby1961 omg omg omg! You responded to my comment. You should see the smile on my face. Bigger than yours when you took that one chick flying with you. Due to time zones, I always miss Office Hours with you so I have to watch them later. I did have TWO questions if I may, (and I do hope you see them) and it would be awesome if you could answer them either here or on your next Office Hours. So, you are far too big I think for men's physique. Those guys are all lats and abs. You bring a MUCH better package. I know you said you wouldn't be interested in doing it again, BUT, would you be interested in trying the new Classic Physique the IFBB is introducing? Question 2: Have you ever heard of Mike Mentzer and what do you think of his High Intensity Training (H.I.T) and his Heavy Duty (HD)? I like HIT more cause I get a bit more volume but HD is interesting for sure. I have followed only your advice and his advice. Your advice helped me lose 22kg in 4 months (with some muscle added on but hard to measure with such a dramatic fat lose) and I have put on 8kg of solid muscle (yes I used skinfold calipers like you suggested) using his program and combining it with yours. In closing, thank you so much for all of your hard work and I hope you continue to help others like you have helped me. When ever people ask me questions, I ALWAYS refer them to scooby1961!
Can you also do a video on how to stick to your goals? And deal with stress? More sophisticated advice than go for a walk. Thanks for everything you teach us.
+yektacuk2009 Nope, you cant teach that. If you want something bad enough then you will be willing to make the sacrifices. If you dont want it bad enough, you wont - period. If you are asking how you can accomplish your goals without paying the price, it goes by many names: cheating, stealing ...
Scooby what is your opinion on art and decorations? You technically don't need to have posters/art/pictures hung up around your house but if every time you walk by them and they stir an emotion in you are they increasing the richness of your life? Do you have any tips or philosophies when it comes to these sort of things? For example buying prints or posters is a cheaper way to decorate a room than buying originals. I would be really curious about your views on this subject.
+borg718 If I can answer by posting a link or with a short sentence, I do that here but the only place I give people detailed advice is on sweat4health. The problem here and on TH-cam is 1) 500 char limit prohibit reasonable answers and 2) trolls get in the way and 3) there is no way to have a reasonable back and forth conversation. That is precisely the reason I created sweat4health, its a private, troll-free community of people who are serious about fitness, health, and bodybuilding. scoobysworkshop.com/contact-scooby/ If you are not interested in a 30 day free trial membership at sweat4health, I also have live office hours most mondays on TH-cam where anyone can ask questions.
thank you scooby! long time fan and I just found out your videos on financial independence! ironic cause I was looking for advice online and happen to see yours. As a first gen immigrant I had to start learning financial independence and management without much help, and I'm glad I'm starting with ths video
What do you think about the fact that interest is so low in recent years that saving and investing yield barely any ROI? Real estate has been good, however. I wish I had put a lot more money into property 10-15 years ago!
My family thought it'd be better to draw names out of a hat as you suggest here. Let me tell you, it was the best decision ever! So much less financial and social pressure.
This is such an informative video.I wish my father or teachers would taught me this things when i was younger.I am looking forward for the next videos in the series...
1.Buy deals as an investment, NOT for yourself. 2.Sell them for just under full price after the sales are over. 3.Profit. Higher turn around than any stock, and guaranteed. And don't over think it. Buy the things you like (other people will like them too). It's also a good way to test your will power and buying/ selling strategies if you want to get into business later in life.
My uncle has saved money all his life and he died at the age of 50! He was never spending money and he saved money thinking that when he is retired he will travel around the world so saving money at all costs it is crazy!!
Hi Scooby, one of your German fans here. I don't know if this applies to the U.S. but in Germany the biggest cause of debt for young people are expensive phone contracts (especially when these people lose their jobs unexpectedly). I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
+flosse89 Agree completely, its part of the "its just XX/mo" trap. People are enticed by seemingly small amounts of money per month. Cable is just $35/mo. Cellphone is just $55/mo. Sirius FM for their car is just $20/mo. The AT&T call anywhere plan is just $40/mo. DSL is only $40/mo. The trouble is, by the time you add up all these 'insignificant' little things, half your paycheck is gone.
when I was younger, I wanted stuff but didn't have the money to buy it. now that I'm 40, I have money....but don't want stuff any more. I guess it's one of the few perks of being middle aged.
+Paul Ounjian Keep living like a starving student!!!! Resist the temptation to buy a new car, new TV, and get an expensive apartment!!! SAVE! Every dollar you save is that much less time you need to work at your current job before following your passion.
+LefkiosG four more videos to go and lots of topics. Even more important than investing is the subject of college and whether it makes financial sense to go into debt for an education.
Thanks Scooby, you really are doing a public service with all the advice you give out there, fitness, time management. I was lucky enough to study without putting on debt as my parents paid for it, plus I live in europe where studying is free in many places. I am coming from a Greek family where education is of paramount importance, I was told I have to get a degree since the first day I can remember. In some cultures parents do pay a lot of money for education, they don't expect their kids to pay for it. But some degrees are more profitable than others... Anyway, looking forward to your next video.
nice video, I like the message. I was just rationalizing the purchase of a new video card but this video stopped me! I don't really need it. One step closer to financial independence. Thanks!
scoob how true is muscle memory, im going to air force boot camp soon and wont be able to lift for awhile, so ill lose my muscle since ill be doing cardio all the time a,d pushups and pull ups how soon can i see my strength come back
Black Friday is fine if you: 1) Only buy things you were planning to buy anyway 2) You don't buy them on credit 3) You check that the bargain is really a bargain and not a 'fake' discount. 4) You adjust your spending down for a couple of months afterwards to allow your bank balance to recoup
Funny thing on Black Friday stores are just selling you stuff at next years prices, stuff they would have to get rid of in 6 months time to make room for new stuff. So if you just wait a few months youll be able to buy the same stuff at Black Friday prices sometimes even less.
Well if you are buying electronics and not in debt, Black Friday is the best time to do it. 2 years ago on BF I bought a touch screen i7 laptop $200 off the regular price. It still works great. No problem editing 4K videos. I don't think I will need another laptop for another year. This BF I bought a compact camera with 20x optical zoom that was $50 less plus I had a $50 gift card so I couldn't resist.
+EvilFandango Its not their fault, they have never been taught nor do they have role models. Being over your head in credit card debt affects engineers, lawyers, and rock stars just as much as it affects plumbers and electricians.
I'm not much of a spender, but sadly I'm in a bad situation where my father is constantly asking me money, wich I have to take from my savings because I have no job. He uses the money to pay off the loans he takes constantly from banks. How can I remove a toxic person from my life if he's my father?
+scooby1961 I wish I had any love left for him, I really don't. That's why I said I wanted to remove him from my life. The problem is that there's no way I see myself having a discussion with him without getting stupidly angry and maybe even physical, there's just no helping him, he was always and will always be a lost cause, he's living in his own head and he has no intention of coming out of it.
Have you had to work for a living since you turned 18, in order to get all of your current possessions? This is a straight question. I think it most relevant to giving this specific kind of advice.
I spend more time with my computer than anything else. I don't watch TV or have a PS4/XBOX. I wait wayyy too long for games to load and Windows. I only have a green 2 TB hdd as hard drive. Should I build a new computer or invest in SSDs? Probably later one. Since it is cheaper for now.
+numbatkeller Los Angeles really cracks me up. More than any other place there seem to be a lot of people with really expensive cars ... who need to have roomates in cheap apartments so they can afford their flashy cars.
In Germany there is a saying for those kind of guys. "Hubraum statt Wohnraum" which roughly translates to "engine displacement instead of housing space". Doesn't translate so well but whatever :)
If you havent noticed, I take my role as mentor, father, and teacher seriously. This isnt like class where you get a scolding for going off topic or making jokes, I just ban you and you will never be able to ask a question again. +scooby1961 mach weiter so
You can always get me Xmas gift homie just check out my Amazon wish list lol n can use a new lifting belt for gym hehe 😏😏😏😏
You do make a great point. My first significant job, I went out and bought a car. No regrets mind you, but definitely a learning experience. Now a lot smarter, or rather wiser.

neolithic3 I might end up doing that at some point, but I don't have an income to pay off a credit card at the moment.
TheCollector
Yeah, the ability to pay it off is definitely the important part ;). I obviously dont know you but just the fact that you are leary about getting one and thinking of it in a responsible manner leads me to believe that when you do decide to get one you will do just fine :)

+scooby1961 Their loss! I'm just about to graduate and I need to implement this kind of mentality when spending money!
I find it interesting.
YOLO YOYO LOYO (fades out). This cracked me up Scoobs! XD
Scooby is certainly a person who lives reasonably, logically, and fully. A person interested in health and well-being is also interested in making sure we don't ruin our lives by making stupid decisions. Thanks Scooby for helping others.
+Aldo Garbellini You are quite welcome!
Bargain shopping today because its BLACK FRIDAY??? STOP!!!!
I make cookies for people and give them the ultimate gift: Diabetes!
+Random Street Theater LOLOL
Wow thank you so much Scooby for giving this info to the masses. The school system is for herding people to work for someone else, they never teach you this stuff. Can't wait for the next video!
Your the man scooby you give great advice for free and aren't trying to secretly promote anything of your own. Your 100% honest and truthful and a blessing to the World. God bless you sir
BTW, if you want a lot more info like this you can follow my facebook page where I make daily posts rather than weekly posts like I do to TH-cam here. facebook.com/GetFitForFree
+scooby1961 What is that awesome background? Do you have raw footage of it? Greetings form Germany...
+Alex Hamilton I thought that the background was a picture until the car appeared at 3:07, so beautiful!
+Alex Hamilton
hi...i noticed the picture too. It looks like myanmar. The google search term ...myanmar balloon...nearly did the job. Similar pics..i think if you search you will find the orginal foto.
Btw..now i realize, the background is a video not a photo :)
greetings from germany too
Kurikost thx for the research, I really hope scooby shares the video (didnt he bike across the whole country?) :)
Please help, wife got used to "not work" - I got used to overtime money -
Best thing is to make more money and never buy anything on credit.
The smarter thing is to buy on credit at no interest and pay on time.
+Arseny Mescheriakov you get it!
+Juan Cerro You are quite welcome Juan! You probably dont have "Black Friday" in CH but the same things apply!
Nice video Scooby, please don't let this series die.
Excited about this series Scoob. Funny, I was tempted to get a tv today and then I talked myself out of it!
+Shawna Fields Yes!!! :)
I like this quote in relation to money and poverty:
"One of the most profound questions we as a society need to ask ourselves is: "What is the social intent?" Should the focus of society be to create and preserve jobs?
- Peter Joseph
great quote
+Sean Houghton You are quite welcome Sean!
As a professor, I started saying a similar thing to my students. I do not tell them how to get an A, I tell them how to get an F... Don't hand in assignments, don't follow directions, wait until the last minute to study, etc... This is great advice Scooby!
+TacticalCanner Its often easier to start with a negative example :)
Haven't seen Scooby in a long while. You're a breath of fresh air Scooby. Ya, it's way too easy to spend money these days.
+KickmyassTV Yep, buy now pay later!!!! Take this car home today on YOUR GOOD CREDIT!
scooby you are a wonderful person, i like your work and how you see things. i am happy that a person like you is on youtube!
I love this series already Scooby. totally agree with you on the black Friday topic
Great video Scooby! This video laid down a lot of knowledge and truth you really know you're stuff.
+Volen Light Thanks!
Amen Scooby, great decision to make this video series. People need to know to how handle their finances well.
+SoulBaron As I say on my "how to get rich" page, I am going to give everyone the “secret” for how to get rich and 95/100 of people on TH-cam will decide that its too much work and that they would rather be poor.
Awesome video man, can´t wait for parts 2-5!
I'm glad you made this video on this day. We have more 'luxuries' than ever, yet people are unhappy and miserable and do it to cope with their horrible lives. Happiness comes within.
+brokethehabit Yep, people making over 250k a year are some of the unhappiest people around :(
Just putting together an annual budget for all of 2015 to review my spending.
Looking foward to the rest of this series.
Do you have any specific sources where we can read more that elaborate on personal finance/financial freedom in detail?
I have a question unrelated to the video. If you're training for an event, say a marathon or the like, how many days should you give your body to rest before said event?
As a guy who was raised with an actual financial education from my parents and who got into value investing a few years back (The Intelligent Investor by Ben Graham), this video is SO IMPORTANT. Unfortunately, most people just don't want to hear how to spend their money, and would rather try a disastrous get rich quick scheme. Like with body building, these things take time, good principles, and discipline. Looking forwards to the rest of this series!
+AspiringRocker729 Glad you had good teachings early on, it makes SUCH a difference in young peoples lives!
+scooby1961 where is part 2??
True, although most of my unnecessary spending is on eating out because I'm a student spending my time at school from 9-9.
Don't really feel up to bringing that much to school, but i try to reduce it by eating trail mix and stuff.
Yo gooby! When you gonna do more of these? Love the info! :D
What place is that in the background?
Where are the rest of these videos Scooby? Hope your back gets better!
+MrIloveamerica1776 .Taylor M. coming over the next year
So, where are the rest of these videos?
dear Scooby, I loved this video, just one question:when is part 2 coming out? Thanks
Or worse is the dummies who rent to own a tv, furniture, etc.
+RubberWilbur That is very sad. The only thing worse financially than rent-to-own furniture is getting paycheck loan advances
If you are asking how you can accomplish your goals without paying the price, it goes by many names: cheating, stealing ...
love your videos scooby been watching them since high school getting basic weight and nutrition tips!! all the best
+manchester-R-Kid thanks for being a long time viewer!
More please, scooby. This is gold.
+Asilsthere D Thanks! It will be a number of months before the other vids come out ...
scooby1961 oh dear god
Scooby what is your opinion on art and decorations? You technically don't need to have posters/art/pictures hung up around your house but if every time you walk by them and they stir an emotion in you are they increasing the richness of your life?
Do you have any tips or philosophies when it comes to these sort of things? For example buying prints or posters is a cheaper way to decorate a room than buying originals.
I would be really curious about your views on this subject.
I want to know how to manage real estate like you scoob, build my own house and rent it out
+borg718 If I can answer by posting a link or with a short sentence, I do that here but the only place I give people detailed advice is on sweat4health.
Pure gold. Thank you sooby!!!
I'm be waiting for the rest of the series. =D
Wise words. For some inexplicable reason "Black Friday" has reached the UK whereas a few years ago nobody over here had ever heard of it.
+Oggie60 Consider yourself lucky!
I love that you share your insight on subjects other than fitness :) Keep it up Scooby!
+Hamvair You are quite welcome!
thank you scooby! long time fan and I just found out your videos on financial independence! ironic cause I was looking for advice online and happen to see yours. As a first gen immigrant I had to start learning financial independence and management without much help, and I'm glad I'm starting with ths video
hey Scooby, love you videos! Where do you get the live backgrounds? They're beautiful!
100% True
I think its really starting to show the wealth gap how much more and more people are focusing on black friday. It's a bit sad really.
Scooby, where is the second video?
I was just thinking about this today, as I just received my first credit card! thanks scooby!
+zyzz doggie Great! Use it but pay it off in full every month!
Scooby great video man so enlightening 👍
god, live a little, you only live once, YOLO YOLO YOLO YOLO
+MuzzaFuzza Oh thank you, before reading your comment I always thought I had more lives.
You unlisted this video, but luckily it was in my favorites! Please provide the rest of them for me to finish this great series!!!
-Marco Bohm
see my other channel, "uncle scooby"!
+scooby1961 thank you for the dilligent giving
My problem isn't the big purchases as much as the small coffee and pizza slice that both hurts my financial and calorie budget :(
Scooby what do you think of house loans or loans in general. Don't bother to reply if it's convered on another video
+thebigtarget1 that will be covered in videos 2-5 :)
When is part 2 coming out?
What do you think about the fact that interest is so low in recent years that saving and investing yield barely any ROI? Real estate has been good, however. I wish I had put a lot more money into property 10-15 years ago!
Thank You HatMan.
If only more people understand that what the holiday season is all about.
Did you remove the second video of this series? :(
My family thought it'd be better to draw names out of a hat as you suggest here. Let me tell you, it was the best decision ever! So much less financial and social pressure.
+Eric Bennardo You made my day! Another family saved from the stress of buying unwanted gifts that nobody can afford! :)
+chieftp LOL! Not everyone has your epiphany. Some continue to need to spend to impress others even past middle age.
Well said Scoobt! I completely 100% agree. Save save save save that's what I've done in the 6 months since I've graduated and started working.
+Paul Ounjian Keep living like a starving student!!!! Resist the temptation to buy a new car, new TV, and get an expensive apartment!!! SAVE! Every dollar you save is that much less time you need to work at your current job before following your passion.
Great tips Scooby, looking forward for the next video!
Generally, the last Saturday before the Christmas is the biggest sales day of the year.
great! I hope you will talk about how to invest your savings, like buying rental property or having a long term portofolio? Thanks
Thanks!
scoob how true is muscle memory, im going to air force boot camp soon and wont be able to lift for awhile, so ill lose my muscle since ill be doing cardio all the time a,d pushups and pull ups how soon can i see my strength come back
+Tim Ziegler you will be fine, dont worry!
I was lucky to first have a math teacher in grade school stressing this and later on a teacher in high school. Important work Scooby :)
Thank you for the money gainz scooby. Although I'm still a baby it's never too early to pick these things up
Funny thing on Black Friday stores are just selling you stuff at next years prices, stuff they would have to get rid of in 6 months time to make room for new stuff. So if you just wait a few months youll be able to buy the same stuff at Black Friday prices sometimes even less.
Wish I could like this more than once! Great advice, Scooby.
Very informative video. When is the next part due to come out?
+Jackson Winger soon. i have flimed it and just have to edit it but its very long, probably over 25 minutes
Oh great, thanks for replying! You've helped me so much the past couple years. I'm looking forward to part 2, especially if it's 25+ minutes! =)
+scooby1961 Looking forward to it Scooby!
+scooby1961 can't wait for it !!!
Hey Scooby, Do a spoof of "here in my garage" dude.
Living within your means is simple and good advice, funny how so many have such trouble with it.
+EvilFandango Its not their fault, they have never been taught nor do they have role models. Being over your head in credit card debt affects engineers, lawyers, and rock stars just as much as it affects plumbers and electricians.
A wise man once told me that rich people acquire assets and that poor people acquire debts.
I'm not much of a spender, but sadly I'm in a bad situation where my father is constantly asking me money, wich I have to take from my savings because I have no job.
He uses the money to pay off the loans he takes constantly from banks.
How can I remove a toxic person from my life if he's my father?
+/DBT/ If you keep giving him money, he will keep on spending it. Tough love is called for
+scooby1961 I wish I had any love left for him, I really don't. That's why I said I wanted to remove him from my life.
The problem is that there's no way I see myself having a discussion with him without getting stupidly angry and maybe even physical, there's just no helping him, he was always and will always be a lost cause, he's living in his own head and he has no intention of coming out of it.
So true! Looking forward to the rest of this series. Salute!
thanks for the advice,scooby
very good video scooby. This is the mentality of 99% of the population.
+ankudr And that is exactly what I hope to change that with this video series!
You are absolutely right! Having the money to buy something doesn't automatically mean you can afford it.
