As a proffecinal Mtb bike rider and group leader do not do that to the chain unless you have spare oil it will effect your pedaling and your bike will go dry.
I think this is pretty much illusional... If there is huge dirt on the chain: fine, go for it. But most of the wear results from the dirt inside the chain pieces and between those and the toothes of the chain rings. So simply rubbing with a towel and degreaser on it over the chain mostly only wipes superficial dirt..
For sure, you need a chain cleaning device (or a bottle) and chemicals. I do this 1-2x a year. Maybe after a really messy race. But not before every ride.
@@fpeter01 also depends on wet vs dry lube, if you use dry you should reaplie every time it gets wet. But yea even for me who will race up to 10x a year and rides at least once a week, meybe 4 times a year with a deep clean

This is not what you should be doing BEFORE every ride, rather after every ride, waiting to clean off the dirt untill your next ride means you just allow these substances to corrode everything while it's sitting there, especially for the chain. if water got on the chain and it washed away the lube and you wait untill he next ride to clean and relube the chain might have already started rusting. The fork, shock and dropper don't really matter much when you clean them as much but it's still better to do it after a ride rather than before. Exept tire pressure, that should be done before
One thing is don’t cycle through the gears cuz if there is dirt on them it will get on the chain and it with make the more likely to get dirt stuck on to them
These bleeders are pointless to push before a ride bro. It's for long descends where pressure can build up with rising oil temp. Before a ride there's no pressure at all.
You should not cycle through the gears right after lubing your chain. You’ll have oil all over your mechs and this will make more dirt stick to your drivetrain. And that causes more wear…
@David read whats on the backside of the bottle. Usually you have to leave it for 2-3h then you can go for a ride or just leave it for the next time. You want the chain lubed not the whole bike...

And unless you ride in the PNW or in parts of Europe where it's always raining and wet, use dry formula chain lube. It keeps your drivetrain way cleaner than wet or any of the "both" formulas. Way easier to maintain.
Of course riders don't go through this procedure prior to every ride. But the rider has to do some things, and they should be minimal and quick. When you drive a car, you open the door, insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder, and go. A bike's procedure should be just a quick. Before I start with my bike, I have to negotiate it out to the outside, turn on all the stuff, lift the kickstand, adjust the mirror, maybe unlock the bike, do a quick visual check of the chain etc., and go. If my bike is folded-up, I have to undo that, naturally.
