      I really would enjoy seeing a general guide for starting near the ottomans, both as Muslim and Christian nations, as there are achievements for most nations that start with a border with the ottomans(Trebizond, Candar, Karaman, Byzantium, Albania, Serbia, wallachia all have achievements where at some point you have to deal with the ottomans)

    • @ajrobbins368
      @ajrobbins368 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @minimuffin531 Excellent idea!
      While I have thoroughly enjoyed the detailed achievement guides, they are nation and version specific as well as lengthy projects.
      Without player intervention, the Ottoman Empire will solidify its superpower status by absorbing it's assorted neighbors. Players want to change fate and out-compete the Ottomans, so they need strategies relevant to their nation of choice.

      In Spain, we have many friendly jokes about vasque people being like quite tought, rude and strong xD Similar of the Chuck Norris memes, we have something similar with them here, in the way of "vasque people shave with an axe". They tell them about themselves and we too. And looks like Paradox has implemented that mechanic in the game

      @@MaNU7908 to be fair, during the civil war the basques reslly fucking proved themselves. I mean, they stuck it to the nationalists while cut off from madrid for way longer than expected. I am from the south so as you can imagine independist movement controlled areas aren't that sympatheyic around here, but anyone capable of resisting the fascist forces for that long with a supply chain that crippled has earned my respect for sure. Don't fuck with the basque, they may be rural, stubborn mules, but, well, they really are mules in the positive sense too.

      Yeah, Basques have traditionally supported Carlism. Because Carlism is in their greatest interest and aligns most closely with their rural Catholic values. Nowadays, everybody is a degenerate though so who knows.
      Edit: And they proved themselves as men without fear while fighting in the Requetés too. Unfortunately, it appears that as part of the civil war they betrayed their own Christian values and were involved in massacres of innocents and other atrocities, though who’s to say if they targeted lefty sympathisers or actual civilians.

    I've had quite a bit of success as Navarra also. I usually ally with Castile right away and wait for Aragon to attack me (they're usually hostile toward us right off the bat). I crank up the defensiveness in Navarra and buy a fort defense advisor if I can, and Aragon's army is usually mired trying to take my (unblockaded capital), running 45-50 day siege cycles while Castile and I occupy most of what he has in Iberia.
    By the end of that first war (1450 or so) I've usually scooped up 4 provinces including Tarragona and Valencia, giving Alicante to Castile for their efforts. At that point I'll move my capital to Tarragona because it's more valuable and easier to develop than Navarra up in the mountains.
    From there it's easy to start grabbing everything else that Aragon owns and loves in subsequent wars. After that you can play it how you want.
    It's cool to see your strategy, which is entirely different from mine, even though Navarra is situated in such a tight geopolitical spot. Cheers!

    I should have followed your guide as it would have made my start a lot easier. In my game England allied Castile and they smashed France, which I also wasn't able to help because I wasn't able to get the alliance early. With Castile and Aragon both wanting to kill me I had to ally Portugal and then I allied HRE electors because they were the next strongest possible allies.
    Guess what? I got elected in 1470 when there was about 2 months before Austria could get my third vote back in line. I am still a OPM but Aragon's king should die any moment and in 1 year I can declare war on England and even with Portugal and Castile helping them I am confident that France and I can win this time thanks to my huge force limit and the German theocracies are willing to help out.
    Also France took Britanny and has Provence under PU, fighting him will be a nightmare but the reward will be huge. Sometimes not ideal starts can turn out very, very interesting.

    This seems a lot more rng than you present it to be. I'm having problems with burgandy declaring on france early, provonce getting excom'd, burgundy declares, and france defends, and france having a high opinion on aragon, so they won't go to war. Sometimes castille is hostile and declares on you, sometimes aragon declares on you before you can get castille and france allied. Also, in the england war, france is wanting a LOT more than what is shown in the video for favors. I think you got really lucky. I'm sure this method works great, but I've restarted way too many times to call it "easily reproducable." Anyways, still really enjoyed the video.

      get your stab to -3 and get migration time short as possible. find those 3 plains provinces around modern day Washington DC and migrate between them, dumping all points into dev (your tech catches up when you reform off a European nation) once sufficiently dev'd start colonizing east coast. try to reform off of a European but only attack when the colony is a colonial nation, and full annex if possible to prevent a reconquest war. 100 years of monarch points will be dumped into just a few provinces, meaning you will have an incredible dev base to work off of to begin with and plenty of money to hire advisors to keep up with catching up in tech.

    • @csfelfoldi
      @csfelfoldi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A boring but safe way:
      You want to delay contact as long as possible with the colonizers as they will instantly attack you if you are small. Attack Creek asap with the rival CB and intentionally feed them 2 of your provinces, you will need warscore for this otherwise they will only peace out on your own full annexation, he will likely have an ally, try to fight them separately, you can try to base race Creek and if you win they will accept your 2 provinces. Best strategy is to shatter Creek by baiting them into a fight before their ally arrives then go for their capital which will give you 1-2 extra ticks for your base race siege. Just 1444 if RNGjesus hates you.
      Now as an OPM you can migrate which gives free mana for your reforms. Hop around until you find a good trade good far from the East Coast.(generally fur or tobacco, gold is far away in the west coast which is possible but you will wait until 1700 until someone civilized arrives) Great lakes or Midwest areas are nice as the colonizers wont reach there until 1650ish. (e.g. Potawatomi is a level 2 trade center in the Ohio trade node with a starting 6 dev and defensive terrain.) Push for admintech 5 and get expansion ideas. Use spare MP and buildings to develop your new capital, so you can support a colonist. Around 1500 you should be able to start sending out colonists. With expansion ideas you should steadily reach the point where you always have 3 colonists working. The native buildings are very strong so abuse them to the max for money.
      The colonizers will first focus on the coastal area so you have plenty of time before they reach the inner continent. Your goal is to blob using colonists and occasionally eat neighbors until 1600, then slowly approach the shores. The best is when the Thirteen colonies start to colonize themselves since they are likely in threatened status they wont DoW you when you put your own colonies next to them. The overlord can still push for it but since you are quite large at this point they likely wont bother to use subject CB on you. You should also save up a lot of Mana so you can quickly tech up once reformed.
      Now you can DoW the Thirteen colonies and the Overlord wont be called in. If the Overlord is a great power be careful, they can still enforce peace. You can use the Reconquest CB as the colonies likely own your former 2 pronvinces you left behind and have permanent claims on. After reforming you are likely great power level or close, the only Colonizers that can threaten you at this point are Spain with Naples inherited as well and Great Britain with full control of their Island. France tends to be too invested in Europe and have a smaller presence. Since you waited long you will have vision on Europe and ally your enemies rivals. Alternatively you can wait for the US to break free then eat them when they have no allies in a reverse manifest destiny way.

    To those who wonder is this guide useful in 1.30 emperor patch.
    Yes, it is mostly useful, except at first you can't marry with France because of many duchies. Therefore, hiring diplomats are much useful to enforce peace in hundred years war. Once, France eats one vassal, they will join you.
    Aragon in this patch is nerfed, by Naple succession event, but France is stronger in Emperor patch. Therefore, you can just ask France to attack. In my game, even Austria and Savoy are in Aragon side. France still wins.
    You may at start pissing Aragon and ally Castile. So Aragon attack you and Castile. If you defend it well, you could rush for 4 Aragon states and finishing Aragon Ambition mission.

    I've found trying to replicate this run extremely unpredictable. I've been testing for about 2 hours and I've had all kinds of shenanigans happen that'll completely mess up this strategy. Here's a few examples of things that has happened in the last two hours within the first 5 years of game start.
    - Aragon declaring war on Navarra within a few months despite castillian alliance
    - Aragon PU'ing Castille
    - France PU'ing Castille
    - France and England fighting over Portuguese PU
    - Surrender of Maine on day 2 (making you unable to increase french opinion to 100 before 25% warscore)
    - France often won't attack Aragon despite favors due to positive opinion
    - Burgundy and France fighting early
    - Castille constantly flipping to domineering
