  • The Valkyrie is the kayaker's packraft-the pinnacle of whitewater performance in an inflatable package.
In this video, Jeff Creamer discusses the features and highlights of the Alpacka Raft Valkrie, a new inflatable kayak. The closest thing to a hardshell kayak that the packrafting industry has to offer.
The Valkyrie is designed for both skilled whitewater kayakers looking for a backcountry and travel boat and developing paddlers looking to improve kayak skills in a more forgiving and easier to carry package.

Is this generally more stable than a hard shell kayak/ creek boat?

Jeff, first of you rock. Super inspired by the rivers you're out there crushing, always keeping that stoke high. I do have some questions about sizing. I see that on the website unlike with other boats there is a height recommendation. I'm 6'6" so a few inches above the height suggestion. I currently have a XL Gnarwhal. From what I can gather looking at the tech specs is that the Valkyrie actually has 1" on the XL Gnarwhal interior length. There isn't a "Paddler sit length" specification to compare it with so going by interior length wouldn't someone larger then 6'3" be able fit the Large Valkyrie if I fit nicely in the XL Gnarwhal? The exterior is 4" longer, and it packs down smaller than an XL Gnarwhal. So overall it seems like it would fit? Any thoughts? I believe Thor to be a tall guy (unsure of size) but curious about his experience as well with this. I appreciate any info! If I got any of this wrong while analyzing the differences please let me know. Thanks!

Hi Russell - I don't know anyone taller than 6'3" (34" inseam) who has paddled a valkyrie yet. In terms of sit length and cockpit fit lengthwise, there is a little room to spare for that paddler in a Large valkyrie (he says about 2" behind his ideal backband position). However, that 6'3" paddler (who prefers to paddle the large with his seat/backband pretty far forward) suspects a 6'6" paddler would fit inside but feel a little cramped in the cockpit. That said, *if* a paddler can fit well inside a valkryie cockpit, then more paddler+load weight seems to suit the large valkyrie well. I'm sorry I can't provide a more insightful answer - if and when we see feedback from paddlers 6'5" or taller I will update this comment. Paddler experiences in the valkyrie are much more sensitive to differences in paddler dimensions that any other packraft, as you'd expect, so I feel reluctant to extrapolate much beyond known paddler experiences.
