A Closer Look: 150+ Horses Rescued in Texas

Our Animal Rescue Team worked alongside Camp County sheriff officials and Safe Haven Equine Rescue to help more than 150 horses, mules and donkeys in Camp County, Texas. All of the animals our responders encountered were living in terrible circumstances: some were severely underweight and almost all had skin infections and cracked hooves. Some had eye infections and injuries. Thanks to our Homes for Horses Coalition members and our network of equine rescue partners, these animals have been accepted into rescue organizations where they will continue on the road to recovery and adoption or permanent sanctuary.

Karen Bailey look, Karen, God is not behind this. It is us human kind who did this. God gave us Free Will to choose right from wrong. Where there is no free will there can not be love only slavery. It is man kind that chooses to do bad things. One day people that harm them will answer to God for what they have done.

Horses are some of the most beautiful animals on this earth. They are trusting and loving and sweet. It really breaks my heart the condition that these beauties were left in, especially the blind ones. Thank you humane society for rescuing them and giving them a brand new start. Im so thankful for the kindness of all those who were involved in this effort and the forever homes they end up in.

My horse came back skin and bones he was depressed almost like. I don’t know how they just left him in the paddock. I know the old old owners and I know that they fed him but not the owners before me. He gained weight in months quickly and were now cantering poles.

I'm crying! A pit for deceased horses?! My heart breaks for these majestic animals. I'm so grateful that we have such an amazing organization like the Humane Society of the US. Many thanks to you and to all that were involved in this rescue operation. They served a warrant, did they arrest anyone for this? If so, there was no compassion for these animals, so the same should be for the arrestee. Even if you can no longer care for them, make a call. There are organizations that will help take them. Individuals are willing to foster them (I do) Whoever it was they just didn't care to inflict harm. Pieces of 💩!

The place that had them was an "equine rescue center". It's not really that uncommon, unfortunately. Animal hoarders go to auctions, "rescue" some horses they feel sorry for, then "rescue" some more, and more, and more. Unable to care for them, the animals deteriorate further as the numbers continue to grow.

This story was.......I'm almost speechless. It was sad to see the animals in the conditions that they were in. I grew up on a farm where horses and cattle as well as dogs, cats, ect. were my best friends. Our horses knew when it was feeding time. They whinny and knicker (talk) when they are treated with love and respect. They will show love by running till they drop if you let them. They are trusting beautiful animals that are smarter than most understand. I'm glad that these animals were saved and given the chance to live the remaining days on this earth with love and respect. It makes me sad to think of those that lost that chance and those that are suffering know that won't get that chance. Thank you everyone that was involved in saving these animals. My hope is that people that see animals suffering will speak up. Please remember that we are there voices!! Hello, I belong to a horse stable that all the horses are rescues. The horse I ride is named annie and only has one eye because the other has to be removed due to infection. I would like to inform you that many horses do great with one eye so they should be fine!

How many times do I have to say this?! They may be animals, but they have feelings to! Screw you.. (whoever did that to them) and thank God that you guys saved them. (I also feel bad for the ones missing their eyes. 😩) Horses arent toys.. they aren’t just pets. Horses can turn into your family. I can’t count how many times I’ve been depressed and when to the barn. I used to have depression and always went to the horses to cheer me up. I don’t know how someone could to that to such a beautiful creature. 😔

When I see clips such as this it's just an almighty horrible reminder that we live in the same world as some callous, savage, nasty people, capable of such neglect and cruelty. I run Circle L Horse Rescue in NE Oklahoma. I hope you (USHS) remember Odin, the Palomino gelding that was blind in this video. We got him a few weeks after your seizure, from you, along with 7 more. We still have Odin, but all the rest got adopted to permanent homes and are thriving. Odin will always have a home here because he is 100% blind. He's no longer skinny, he is fat, fit and so happy. We love him to pieces. Y'all do great work and we are proud to have him. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure where ever you live has their own horse organization, too. Because sadly horses, and other animals, are mistreated in every country on Earth. There is always that one assholes who's got a parasite infested pony with overgrown hooves starving to death in some shed in his backyard.

Horses are such lovely animals and give so much to people even if they are in the worst of states. The fact that many humans don't give back a fraction of that makes me really sad. We are blessed to have these animals, let's be grateful and try and help them.

Just don't understand how anyone could leave any animal to suffer so badly. So glad these horses were rescued. Hope the person(s) responsible for the neglect of these horses was severely dealt with by the law.
How these horses still trust humans after what they had been through just shows you how trusting and loving these animals are

Horses are beautiful creatures, it's horrible the way a lot of people treat all animals and not just horses, I'm so happy that these horses are no longer going to wonder where or wether there food is or when there gonna get it.

A month ago me and my friend were riding on our fourwheelers we saw a old little barn so we went by to check it out, we saw bunch of dead chickens that looked like they died about 5 days ago, we looked in the tiny barn we saw a skinny horse his hooves were growing out, he couldnt walk so we went back where we had service and called my dad he went to pick up the horse and we brought it to our yard with nice green grass we sawed off the growed part of the hoof we filed the hooves, we fed her grains with extra vitamins we cut her baddly tangled hair right now she is healthy and is living a happy life

I have seen a lot of rescues on TH-cam but this one is the most special. I have never seen horses blind in that way, or horses that are so skinny you can basically see a skeleton. This is a amazing rescue and I hope you keep doing what your doing

God bless all the humane society workers, I couldn’t do your job. My heart would break to much, I honestly don’t know how you do it. These people who leave them. If they just would, before they left, try to find the horses a home, this wouldn’t happen. But I am in awe of how many people are blessed to have these animals, then go and neglect them, not feed them, not clean there pens. I love the humane society, and I HATE the people who leave animals in these conditions.
They should contact the Red Headed Stranger. If taken in they will live a life of luxury.. That is what Willie Nelson does now in "retirement". He is my hero for his equine rescuing big heart!
