This was an excerpt from the 1983 documentary "Gospel" starring the Clark Sisters, Rev. James Cleveland, Walter Hawkins & Love Center Choir, Shirley Caesar, and The Mighty Clouds of Joy." The Clark Sisters made a crossover splash only a couple of years earlier with their first commercial hit "You Brought the Sunshine." It was so huge that it was being played in clubs like Studio 54. Years later, I would have the pleasure of accompanying two of them, Karen and Dorinda, in different concert settings. So glad you're appreciating their music.
God blessed Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark with 3 gifts in my opinion: The ability to praise his name, the ability to arrange music(that woman knew music theory), and 5 beautiful daughters who she trained as one. There is NO OTHER female vocal group of any genre that can say that they weren't influenced by the Clark Sisters. And to think that Karen was still discovering her voice around this time.
I am from the Detroit area. I grew up 5 miles outside the city limit. Sad to say, I had never heard of the Sisters. Happy to see them. I moved out of state in 1980. Great to hear them.

Not full chest😂she mixes normally past F5 and G5. Now her entire range is A2-C#6-Bb6 but she doesn’t belt all her notes full chest. The only sister that belts all her notes full chest is dorinda and sometimes Jacky.

If you listen closely to any rendition of "Is My Living in Vain," where she asks Twinkie to help her go low, you can hear where her low notes stop before reaching A2. In fact, Twinkie's lowest recorded note again is a B2, and I am confident that Twinkie can go a whole octave lower than Karen. Just give a listen to "I Found Jesus," where Karen always relies on Twinkie to hit the low note on the words "Yeah Yeah Yeah." This video I believe Karen was 18yrs and the other sisters in their 20s. The Clark Sisters have been singing together for almost 50 years.
