Very true, you need to work on your cutting positioning. You have been there before and the same thing almost happened again. That is one of points I talk over and over with the new employees. Good job man, learn from your old videos , it’s really hard to see someone getting hurt when you can prevent it
Great video. You got that stuck hinge off at 7:44 with little fuss, even though through the camera it looked like it was gonna swing back at you. I probably would have chickened out, ha ha.
I’ve studied and enjoyed every video you’ve done. But I have a request for a video.. could you do one explaining notches. You do so many different ones and I want to know what makes you choose which one.
Taylor Shay experiment with different cuts in a clear wide open drop zone. That's how I learned. I normally do a single upwards cut from the bottom of the branch unless it's over 8 in and do a staggered top cut so it can snap of and fall flat. 80% of the time
The main one usually used is a Conventional notch (45 degrees down and then a bottom cut around 90 degrees), this notch is basically all you need but he also might use a V Notch (45 up, and 45 down) to get better direction of fall, and if hes cutting a dead tree he'll prbly use a Humboldt (45 degrees up and finishing cut 90 degrees)
I dont understand why he notches the lateral limbs ,makes bo sence to me and wastes time and fuel period . I've done them both ways and the notch makes no difference, unless you are side notching one to swing it to one side or the other . It is used to give the tree or limb room to travel as it falls and the hinge is used to guide the tree in its fall ,but lateral limbs that can be dropped straight down have no need for a notch . Just saying
Human yeah man those limbs can always be sketchy... but it can ALWAYS be avoided... put a tag line as far out on the limb as you can and get ground guy to pull it the way you want it too go..thats the best and safest way to do... only takes a few minutes to tie on another rope... just imagine if that limb came on the other side bro... itd be on top of your rope and would be pulling back on you... all that force of that limb swinging back... could kill us or if were lucky just break our back...just notching a limb to go a certain way doesnt ALWAYS work depending on type of wood and gravity, lean, etc... i just put a rope on it unless the limb has a hard lean on it... i had a limb come on me one time like it almost did you and trust me bro that shit hurt like a bitch cause all of the weigh was getti held back by ur lanyard so its pressure on ur back... luckily it was a small limb.. but yeah bro use a pull rope
but yeah bro just start putting a rope as far out as you can where ur comfortable so the ground guys can pull it the way u want to go... u dont gotta go allllllll the way to the tips... but atleast 65% out... 2/3.. same with pullin a tree over rope needs to be atleast 2/3 of way up
Great video man! Its always cool to have a climber work well with the ground crew. No sense in making each others lives hard. Gotta love those dull silkys! Great rigging human! Keep up the hard work!
I've been enjoying watching the videos that you've been posting & I just need to say that people like you are artists. The way the you study the tree/trees & the way that you want them to go is is just fantastic, I look forward to seeing more videos and sitting in amazement on the way you tame what could be most dangerous thing you handle in your life. In many ways your job is more dangerous than trying to tame a lion as at least with a lion you can carry gun to help you but with your job your not so lucky. Keep up the great work & stay safe 👍👌
Not too shabs for a Human. You're getting better man. I see your fall and subsequent heal time you had to go through didn't stop you from honing your craft. Good on ya
I’m a lawn care guy and tree work is way out of my league but I am amazed by watching professional guys like yourself. It amazes me how you know exactly where the limb is going to go when you cut it. Really cool videos man. I have watched several already. Got yourself a new subscriber 👍🏻👍🏻
Looking a lot more comfortable in the trees bud! Good job staying in it!! What setup are you using now? That looks really smooth decending and when you pull yourself up as well. Stay safe brother!!
Your saw mantainance vids are great could you please do one explaining the Stihl vapour lock issue, I've seen a number of diehard Stihl guys bad mouthing them.
You made me nervous on the one cut hinging away from the house when you were behind the but end. But it worked out. Haha. How did you like the spider jack?
Very cool! Wondering, would it be possible to video putting your rigging in the tree and tieing off the limbs you are trimming? Think that would be cool but don't know if it would be possible with ur work schedule on the job.. Thanks! Stay on your Square!
I too have a Spiderjack3 and like you, the one feature I really like is the lockout button....on drt it isn't any different fighting tree contact friction to other mech devices and at times I find myself bouncing on my line to get rope to pay thro it.....other than that it is solidly built and they're guaranteed for 10 years, amazing.
man I wish I had all the sweet gear you got. I'm still climbing on a Blake's hitch. Guess if I wasn't so cheap I could go buy some cool stuff like you.
Calvin Wilhite Jesus man, update ur technology it's freaking 2018 brother, there's so much great gear out there now. Sure the shit ain't cheap but the speed and efficiency it brings and the simplistic useability makes a word of difference on ur body all day. I watch the old guys and there 1900s tech and struggle all day and beat themselfs up all day for no reason. While I'm hanging there with my Gatorade bottle holder on my harness and while my boysen chair is flipped under my ass and I'm chilling taking in the beauty of the tree and veiws and laughing at dumb ground guys and the guy over there beating his self all day. Chilling, no pressure on my feet and my weight is off my harness so it ain't squeezing me. I love my 200$ boysen chair, so nice.
Seeing those butts come flying back at you is really scary, my man. Nothing wrong with taking smaller pieces and butt tying them to protect yourself. We only get one life! Stay safe, love the vid as always
have you have any hot start issues with your 362c mine doesn't like to restart when hot unless i go full throttle to clear the saw. ive never had this issue before until i cleared a huge maple from my property. it was 39" at the base and most wood was at least 25" across maxing my bar out. idk if im just not used to the m tronic or if i have an issue. i dropped it off at the dealer to have them look at it but im wondering if anyone else has had any issues
Hey Bud yes at first first with my 361 C , New at first I did didn' t do nothing to it but just run the shit out of it for 3 mouths strait , The problem I think it hasn't got broken in yet , after that , Its a beast , and my go to saw 75 percent of the time , starts now 3 pull s cold 1 pull hot I know lot people not happy with the M Tronic , but give ot a chance , you will love it just like I have good luck and stay safe BROTHER ! .
What is that pull device called and where to purchase that ?i assume you have a pulley system at the top of the tree as well to pull yourself up with ease seems as though you pull up it locks as you go up
Awesome man! I would love to do this but have no idea about any of the ropes. I run a ms461 ms261 and cut trees down but have to turn down all kinds of work because i turn down the trees around houses and tight places like this thats $ because i dont have climbing gear or the knowledge of tieing off the limbs so they go down slow and not hulk smash the she shit around the tree lol
Oh man, as someone who mostly works in an office I have sat and watched so many of these videos that in my head I'm now figuring out the safest way to tackle each branch, not that I would ever need to. I'm even catching myself speaking to the guys (in my head) below 'let this one run, support the weight of this one.' Fascinating stuff :)
Just watched the video about Dan The Tree Guy then this one, I had a guy come to cut down an oak tree in tight quarters at my house, he came in with a boom truck that would not fit through the double gates into my back yard and insisted to take down part of my fence to get it in then he proceeds to just start cutting and letting stuff fall wherever, he used no ropes at all and smashed plants and smaller trees under the oak he dented the tops of wire panel fencing and destroyed landscaping I had to stop him and tell him not to finish the job as what was left of the tree was over my house and RV carport I was scared to death he was going to smash that stuff also and he had attitude with me. I envisioned someone like yourself with climbing gear and ropes but was not that lucky anyway just wanted to say kudos to you for trying to do things the right way keep up the good work!
I always said to the do people learning how to climb the best part of climbing is coming down and telling people you climb trees alright alright alright
8:05 Why didn’t you use the hinge to lower the limb, then cut it free? Doing so would mean you wouldn’t have to dodge the butt of that large limb once cut free. Basically if you can maneuver the limb into the position that it will be lowered in you maintain control for the maximum time.
Watching this makes me want to do this type of work. Like i always cut and bust wood for friends of mine and cut trees down and stuff but like it inspires me to want to do this
Daniel Lunsford I love rigging, from rope access on steel beams to tree work cause it's such a dynamic world, it's living and breathing and always different, no 2 trees r the same, rigging on steel beams u know everything is bomb proof and it's mostly semtrical, a tree is so wild and different yet so damn strong. Pine trees r about the only trees I'd say are pretty much identical, they r freaking natural growing ladders.
What was that like 100 ft to 120 ft tree. Awesome camera shots from up there. Damn i miss it. Had a guy work was us and he was working before i was he was up the tree cutting jumping around the branch's and cut not watching cut his damn limb tied in to. It pulled him down like 75 ft. saw died before the bar hit him in the head. Lucky man it wasnt a hard fall just cut his head an broke his arm. One jump you have to focused on 100% all the time yr in the tree. Your awesome. Don't see hardly any videos like this on TH-cam, Thank for posting.
Great video but it’s sorta sad... that looked like a red oak that may have stood another 150 years. I would have pushed for a good trimming at most. No going back now :( Anyway, still a treat to watch and thanks for posting!
I do tree removal as an amature, can you make a video explaining how to plan the take down when its in close quarters of houses etc. Just how to tie up and control limbs. Please bro
So a son is starting out. His aunt laughed at his choice of profession. That would be the perfect job for him! He always has us on our last nerve. Just be trained, be relaxed to be safe.
Knowing as little about your profession as I do, I love watching your videos and learning something from just about all of them. I had a question, though. If I was cutting this tree down, I imagine I would have trimmed the tree like you did, but I would probably cut the tree in half, just to make sure it didn't land on the house..Obviously, I am not a tree cutter, and you are pretty damn good. But I was just wondering, is there ever a scenario where you might do that?
I just had to imagine Dans tree cutting service at that site for a second haha, 2 obeese guys and one with a red mullet in a coloured track suit pulling on a rope, he standing on a leader, yelling around "ohh shit" and then mowing down every fence, electric line and roof in sight hahaha and then hopping in theyr cars and disappearing hahaha:`D Good job btw
Human have a question... by chance do you have a Remington 14" chain and bar for sell even a used chain I have the chain sharpener broke my bar in my first tree ever and has been laying around for past 6 months and would love to use it again but there so Dang expensive if so I can shoot u my info and send u a money order for both chain and bar. thank you... sincerely james
As a crane operator I pretty much have nerves of steel. But, I get sweaty palms watching some of your videos. Great work! Be safe out there!
To The Top Crane I've always wanted to hang from a 220t crane ball doing tree work reached out over a house from the street into the back yard.
David Moore, I could make that happen. The crane on my channel has a max tip height of 330 feet.
To The Top Crane omg please swing me around I'd love it!
David Moore, you'd have to be in Missouri. Travel time is expensive with the crane. It's not exactly fast or fuel efficient. Lol
To The Top Crane guess u will have to let me come down then
Always cut towards your friend never cut towards your hand. You can get a new friend but not a new hand.
Jan Polley that's hilarious

that spiderjack looks dope man... 8:25 had me worried thought it was about to come on ur side... that woulda hurt lol
Yeah, swinging limbs like that often has them come back though, so I just plan ahead and make sure I've room to gtfo!

Love the 395. I bought one in 2004 and its still in excellent shape. Great video.
Not too shabs for a Human. You're getting better man. I see your fall and subsequent heal time you had to go through didn't stop you from honing your craft. Good on ya
Thanks, couldn't wait to get back to it, I love it =)
Can you show the rig that the ground guys have in one of your videos? I’d like to see what they have set up on the ground.
Always great videos. Love the channel. Do you think you could show some footage you you setting the rigging up for the branches?
You and the operator on the skid steer are talented!

Here ya are. Jump to 3:40. This'll remind ya why it cut so easy
Human you sir should look into buying a pair of cut-proof gloves. They are incredible.
Nice work! Love watching your videos
Your saw mantainance vids are great could you please do one explaining the Stihl vapour lock issue, I've seen a number of diehard Stihl guys bad mouthing them.
Ha Ha ha put the tree back up!
It was not recording!
😂
I enjoy watching your videos. I'm not sure why. I am a software developer by trade but I can't stop watching them. Thank you.
Cool videos! You have some awesome climbing gear too!
You are it! Wow!
Really like watching!
Thanks for sharing!
You made me nervous on the one cut hinging away from the house when you were behind the but end. But it worked out. Haha. How did you like the spider jack?
Yep =) thinking I might like it more than the zig zag
Great video. How much do you charge to cut down something that size. I understand if you don't like to talk prices online.
Very cool! Wondering, would it be possible to video putting your rigging in the tree and tieing off the limbs you are trimming? Think that would be cool but don't know if it would be possible with ur work schedule on the job.. Thanks! Stay on your Square!

love the new climbing set up keep up ur good work and stay safe
1:34 Always do an undercut or notch of some kind, that’s a great way to cut your rigging line
man I wish I had all the sweet gear you got. I'm still climbing on a Blake's hitch. Guess if I wasn't so cheap I could go buy some cool stuff like you.

You make it look easy! How about a list of your climbing gear?
Man you have a good ground crew!! 👊👍👊
U are an awesome man , who does an awesome job .
Thanks =)
Wow- seriously skilled and brave to lop the larger limbs. Job well done!
Seeing those butts come flying back at you is really scary, my man. Nothing wrong with taking smaller pieces and butt tying them to protect yourself. We only get one life! Stay safe, love the vid as always
Daniel Birkholz would be an awesome video tho
Liked this vid without seeing the whole thing , I already know it's quality. Keep up the good work, man.
Great work Sir!
I have respect for you man, this job isn't made for just anynody. 👍
have you have any hot start issues with your 362c mine doesn't like to restart when hot unless i go full throttle to clear the saw. ive never had this issue before until i cleared a huge maple from my property. it was 39" at the base and most wood was at least 25" across maxing my bar out. idk if im just not used to the m tronic or if i have an issue. i dropped it off at the dealer to have them look at it but im wondering if anyone else has had any issues

6:00 Yeeeouch! Gotta love those new blades haha
Beautiful oak. Was is sent out to be milled?
9:47 an inch is as good as a mile. Good job.
😂 0:31 he swung like tarzan
That little Stihl is a beast!
What is that pull device called and where to purchase that ?i assume you have a pulley system at the top of the tree as well to pull yourself up with ease seems as though you pull up it locks as you go up
Awesome man! I would love to do this but have no idea about any of the ropes. I run a ms461 ms261 and cut trees down but have to turn down all kinds of work because i turn down the trees around houses and tight places like this thats $ because i dont have climbing gear or the knowledge of tieing off the limbs so they go down slow and not hulk smash the she shit around the tree lol

do you guys chip all the logs, or will you sell the bigger logs to mills?
Damn. That's some serious strength and some big balls. I got two trees I want down lol
I want to let you know that I've been watching you for over 1 year and I watch your vids ASAP for when they come out.
Oliver Bolton the lawncare man same
Thanks =)
I always said to the do people learning how to climb the best part of climbing is coming down and telling people you climb trees alright alright alright
Why is this like ASMR to me? Must be the country boy inside me escaping.
If you want something done right you have to do it yourself or you can also hire this guy. 👍🏼
Like a boss buddy. Great job! 👍
What that ascender called? Good work man

I never really learned how to climb in a tree with gear on and a saw but watching your videos makes me want to
Michael Lochner you can learn
Its awesome
It hurts with a broken leg though.
hows it going were do you get your climbing gear from thank you jim

Don't do how to videos, not at all qualified or experienced enough
Great work! A true pro.
Oh and great job out there, stay safe.
What's something like this tree cost to bring down to a home owner ballpark?
Great job. If u ever move to Florida look me up I will hire u. Town and country tree . Cut it deep!
Just curious ! What ballpark figure are climbers on in that neck of the woods ?? Thnx
Not sure to be honest, probably something I should look into, could be working for way cheap, lol
Human : Hehe yeah ! I hope not ! Lol ! Spider jack looks smooth havent tried it yet ! Cheers Human !
How long does it take to cut down the tree completely?
So a son is starting out. His aunt laughed at his choice of profession. That would be the perfect job for him! He always has us on our last nerve. Just be trained, be relaxed to be safe.

Good job btw
great work man, pretty spider but will stick with my rope runner, safe climbing
Do y’all have to get utilities located before something like this?
Awesome vid thanks for sharing 💯🔥
When I saw you hit yourself with the pruning saw, I had a flashback to when I hit my leg with my pruning saw. It was a bloody mess!
you were talking about your new toys.can I get info on where you got that "spider" I couldnt make out the rest.

That’s cool you can just see the vibrations in the tree and ground when the main falls.
Sometimes I wonder if these people are 💯 sane
