"You gotta listen to these little stories I'm telling you." Yes indeed, I think he was working up to the main event in the way he had learned to tell it. The interviewer should have let him talk and not interrupt to push it straight to the events at D-Day immediately. The man is 101 and is as sharp as a tack.
Should have let the man tell his story how he wanted to.

Papa Jake, if you're not a hero, you are a National Treasure! From D-Day to The Battle of the Bulge, you are a walking library of knowledge! Your amazing memory, your lived experience, and your brilliant granddaughter all converged to make it possible for you to honor your fallen comrades. Just the fact that a 101-year-old is tech savvy enough to know what it is to "go viral" impresses me! I wish they'd allowed you to finish the milkshake story. Besides just wanting to hear it, I feel like that was, somehow, integral to your entire story.

My grandmother was from this generation. Strong and amazing people. Incredibly hard youth years without one complaint. It just was. My grandmother was an orphan with her 4 siblings when she was 14 during Depression on a Washington farm. They tilled the farm themselves, went to school, took cares of themselves, and survived on their own. Finished high school late, she had one dress for a wardrobe because she gave her second dress to her friend who had no dresses, it was that tough.

Thank you for this outstanding, heroic, and historic interview with Mr. Larson. I immensely enjoyed listening to his story. I was disappointed of the way Mr. Larson was being interviewed. To me it was an honer to be at Mr. Larson's presence and would be my honor and privilege to listen to his story. The person who was interviewing Mr. Larson did not seem to recognize or understanding this exceptional opportunity interviewing Mr. Larson. It was so inappropriate and rude to rush Mr. Larson to direct him toward what he wanted to hear and it seems he wanted pieces and broken stories and not the whole story / picture, that's too bad. I my opinion these type of real life and historic interviews should be processed by a mature, well educated journalist who has respect for history and those who served our Country, someone who understand and values respectful manners, someone who is patient and who is really interested to do this type of honorable, and historic interviews. The journalist who was doing this interview seemed to have limited mannerism and limited respect for those who served our Country. Some listeners like myself is interested to hear every details of Mr. Larson's story which is profound, educational, teaches history, and character of of people during that era. I found interrupting Mr. Larson over and over agin and not letting him tell his story the way he would like and valued to say.... it was very disrespectful, very inappropriate, and unprofessional. I completely agree with everything @goldmund22 said in that comment.

That's the trouble with the world today. No one will shut up and listen. We don't have many people left from that generation. We need to listen to them every chance we get. Yeah sure we want to hear about D-Day. But we need to listen to these little stories too because pretty soon we won't have them anymore. To be 101 this man is sharp as a tack. Seems to me like you need to go back and interview him again and then listen to every single word he says. That story was personal to him. And he wanted to tell it. You should have let him. Most of these men from that generation have more wisdom than one pinky than we have in our entire body. I would love to interview him and let him talk as long as he damn well pleases. Maybe I will

If you’re not gonna handle focusing the interview to your expectations and snapshot of a timeline with at least some modicum of tact and respect that is warranted for someone as unique as Mr Larson, even after he says that he’s laying the foundation and framework so that you will not just have answers to the questions you asked but an ideally an understanding of the story and his experiences, so if you don’t want to bother with giving a 101 year old veteran a bit of your time, then for your own sake at least edit out the parts that make it clear you don’t really care to hear what he has to tell us…
