  • PO-35 is a Great Drum Machine!
    I've talked about how underrated I think the PO-35 Speak is in the past, but today I'm going to show you one of my favorite reasons why! Sound 16, the drum patch, has 16 different sounds all from the Micro Tonic VST by Sonic Charge. That's right, the EXACT same sounds as featured on the PO-32 Tonic! You can even swap these sounds out, just like on the Tonic as well! Add on some awesome parameter locking and punch in effects, and you've got an outstanding monophonic drum machine. Combined with the rest of the PO-35, it's featureset is rivaled by none!

    Can't say I ever spent much time with my po 35. It felt limited compared to other devices in this series. You're changing my mind about it. Now I'm compelled to play around with it. Thanks.

      It's an AMAZING Pocket Operator for sure. One of my favorites now. I highly recommend sitting down and spending some time with it! Thanks for watching :)

    Great video! Coming back to my PO-135 after moving and having it packed away in a box for a while has been quite the learning curve... I learned a lot from watching you jam here, thanks!

      Yeah I don't blame you, the po-35 is absolutely packed with features! I've got quite a few more videos on the channel about it, check them out if you'd like :)

      The 32 is definitely one of the best PO's, and if you just need drums, probably the very best. Thanks for watching!

    PO-35 is super powerful!! I have the PO-137 (which is basically the 35 with a Rick and Morty paint job and sample pack...which I’m totally down with) and I love it. It goes nicely with my PO’s-32, 33, & 20!!

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sure does! It's such a versatile PO. It can be an amazing lead, a room shaking bass, or a slamming drum machine. Not to mention the ability to play in almost any key you want!

    The PO35 can also sample drum sounds, especially snares and hats pretty well. So its not exactly monophonic because you can layer those percussion hits

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah if you're willing to use the "synth" voice for a second drum voice it definitely can!

    Wow, I missed this one. I must say that the monophonic limitation on the PO-35 can make for some pretty cool sounding patterns.
    They seem less busy, even when you fill up all 16 drum slots.

    • @FreeBeat

      Yeah having a single instance of the PO-32 is pretty interesting. You can get stuff that sounds completely different than the normal Tonic.

    IFff both PO32and PO-35 understand microtonic, then would an PO-35 UNload be loadable in a PO-32 ?

    I was eyeing the PO-32 for the drums...what does the PO-32 drums has over PO-35?

    • @Alex-em8kc
      @Alex-em8kc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      4 voice polyphony

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The PO-32 has full 4 voice polyphony (as stated by the user above me), as well as a full 16 effects, mute and solo functions, and a little finer control over the sounds. If you only want drums, go with the PO-32 for sure!

    • @Grei_Undyne
      @Grei_Undyne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @wojomojo
      PO-32 is drum focused
      PO-35 is vocals focused with a single drum spot

      Is the 33 missing anything functionality wise from 32 or 35 from a drum machine perspective?

    What are the PO that you own ? PO 32 33 35 20 24 right ?

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct! I think the PO-28 will be my next, or maybe the 14, we'll see!

      @@FreeBeat A lady is lending me both the po12 and 14
      TBH I'm a bit dissapointed with the PO-14 I thought it was going to be my favourite from the PO series, but there's something about it that makes it tedious to work with and quite limiting music making wise.
      Then I'm a noob when it comes to music so I blame it on me. For a bass machine I'm personally more inclined towards a Korg volca, or maybe samples on a po33. Maybe the po35 can serve as a bass machine ?
      That said "they callmejpj" made an amazing album with the po14 so I'l blame it on my skills :P
      But I must admit, some of the percussion of the po14 are terrific in a good way :D
      I thought "The po 12 isn't my jam", before I had it, now that I had time with it it's sooo much fun and intuitive and crazy, and feels twice as functional as the PO-14. Defo one of my favourites !
      I'm going to by my own po, and I'm torn between the po 33 and 20 x')

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Sadiquecat Interesting, you're not the first person I've heard say that the 14 isn't very pleasurable to work with. Maybe I'll stick with the 35 for my bass sounds for now haha.
      As for your own PO, I'd probably recommend the 33 first. Especially if you're new to music, the ability to resample things is a great way to learn fast. The 20 is amazing, but can be difficult to work with if you don't already have a vision and know what you're trying to do.

    • @Sadiquecat
      @Sadiquecat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If youd like, I could probably sample some sounds on the po 14 for ya to have a play with. Not the full experience, but hey, could be fun.
      And yeah I'l go with the po 33, seems fun to go up to a friend and say "hey say something" and sample their voice. Though my thought was "hey how can I make chiptune sound bad" and being somewhat limited to stock sounds re-assured me to have a good "kit" of compatible sounds. But looking forward to having one :D

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Sadiquecat Hahaha I've done that with my 33 so many times! But yeah, it really boils down to do you want good stock sounds, but to be stuck with them, or to be able to use whatever you want.
      I'm not that familiar with the 14, so I'm not even sure what I'd want to use sample wise haha. But if you upload something I'll do my best!
