Agreed! Mike have you already created a sediment trap on the upside of your corduroy road? Would it make sense to leave it (the road) so you can clean out the sediment again. You’re right, there’s always maintenance issues and you’re the one that’s doing it on your land. And best of all, you get to enjoy it! Opps, I’m too late. The road has started to go!

IT sounds like there are a group of individuals who think they know much more than they really do. You are there doing the task and can see what you are moving and can see where you are in depth and width you want. You are a multi talented individual who has a lot of knowledge in many things. I appreciate you sharing this with us. Love the videos you share. Keep them coming.

Mike you can never please everyone. Then there are people that nothing pleases them. For the one that said you're wasting your time. This is a sanctuary for the animals. With all of the development happening around Mike's area where are the wildlife supposed to go? The Morgan's enjoy the wildlife. This provides a place for them to live, raise there offspring. This pond has fish in it, providing water to the wildlife, helps stop flooding and washouts. So let Mike do what makes Mike happy and mind your business. Mike chooses to share what he does with us. Remember he doesn't have to. Carry on Morgan family. I like the channel content.

I’m literally doing the same type of pond clean out at my property. Did end up getting my KX040-4 stuck in a soupy section as my four bolted together railroad tie mud mats just couldn’t sustain the movement on that one soupy section and I started sinking. Took me a day to get it unstuck and about 15 10”ish diameter 15’to 20’ logs that I had to hand drag under the tracks as I seesawed the tracks up and down using the dipper to lift them. Once I got it out, the section my excavator was on and sunk in was about 40” deep to clay. The next day took me about 6 hours of hard work using a yarding clamp and chains to pull the 15 logs and 4 mud mats out of the muck. I just dumped them into the section that still had water and let them soak for a day to keep the mud on them soft. Then I came back the next day with my trash pump, 2” lay flat hose, and my firefighting nozzle on the end, used the excavator to pick one out at a time, and easily sprayed the mud off the excavator and mud covered logs with the high volume of water that my trash pump puts out. For reference I can spray about a 2” stream of water about 70’. So the high volume of water does an excellent job of clearing the tracks and the pond water that I was using just ran right back down into the pond. I’m gonna get about 4 used 8’x14’ structural laminated mud mats off Facebook marketplace for a $100 each and cut them down to 6’x12’ to keep them under the maximum weight I can lift and try again. They should do a lot better than the 8’ wide railroad tie mud mats I have.

Thanks for the videos. I've been watching your channel for a while and just feel a sense of home when I do. I grew up in West Middlesex, Pa but have not spent much time back home in the last 35 years. We are nearly the same age, I graduated high school in 1985 (you might remember the tornados of 1985, that was our graduation night, so the ceremony was cut short). Anyway, I joined the navy in 1990 and ended up spending 28yrs. We currently live down in Florida, but thinking of moving back north somewhere where it isn't so hot, I haven't lived in a place with real seasons in a very long time. After training, I spend my 1st 10 years in the navy in Groton, CT (Yes, I'm a bubblehead/submariner), then moved all over the place - San Diego, Guam, Hawaii, Virginia.
I have a few acres in West Virginia (90) in Gilmer and Braxton Counties adjacent to my great grand parents' and grand parents' property. It is way back off the beaten trail and would take considerable work to be able to access it regularly, but i've been thinking about building something down there. Don't know if I'm willing to put in the work :(
Anyway, thanks for the videos in both PA and WV.

Recently looked at a property with a spring fed pond (headwaters for a creek), can confirm, that one stays clean with no maintenance. Also can confirm, a spring fed pond in some areas do need maintenance, grew up on a spring fed pond. That one filled itself in about 70% in 38 years (fairly large around 15 acre pond). So, some n=1 data to support your idea that they're all different and some spring fed ones don't need clean out

I don't know how to say this yet will try . It seems to me that the pond can be set to have a way that it won't fill with sediment some way . I think to have a example like lake mead in nevada , a great feat of engineering was that . Using the Colorado River to fill the basin for the lake and having a hydroelectric release of the waters . Through a narrow cement output to the other side of the river going through the grand canyon . I just think there is something to be learned about how waters can be controlled for humanity's improvement . Yes I think there must be a way to reduce sediment building up . Maybe like you said some sediment netting or traps to make it so the excavator is not needed to hang over the pond . So that the amount of sediment that gets to the pond makes it on through to the next delta not in the pond

Thanks s for sharing Mike hope the rest of the family is well. The nice thing about cleaning and clearing you just have time. If you were on a time restraint would be different. Keep up the good work like the videos look forward in seeing you guys at the Paul Bunyan show.

I just would love to know what the Morgan’s would have had to pay to have a reliable contractor come in and clean out the pond as well as Mike did it. I’m thinking thousands.

A corduroy road or log road is a type of road or timber trackway made by placing logs, perpendicular to the direction of the road over a low or swampy area. The result is an improvement over impassable mud or dirt roads, yet rough in the best of conditions and a hazard to horses due to shifting loose logs.

I love watching people's channels to see how they doing something maybe not the way iam used to doing it, and ill say "damn, i never thought of doings it that way" There been other times I'll just shake my head, ive never seen anyone that does everything the way others do it.

Beetle kill wood has been a thing for a number of years, with the mountain pine beetle (MPB) causing damage to forests across North America since the late 1990s.
It became a design trend in 2013, with some markets demanding high prices, for the stained lumber.
I guess it's not surprising that it took a trip to northern Michigan for you to learn about it since you cut and mill your own lumber rather than shop at the big box store.

you could leave the bridge of logs or just make sediment pond where you are digging at but make a raised area to let water run over or a spillway

Id like to have a dollar for every hour ive spent cleaning ponds with long boom excavators .
A lot of people sit and critique your pond cleaning project , but i guarantee very very few have the ability to clean a pond . The thing is , it is tough to clean out ponds/creeks/sumps etc with a small excavator . There is not enough reach . The camera gives people the impression that you are operating a much larger machine . Haha , as you know , you jave to literally be on top of your work with a small machine as there is never enough resch . Even midsize machines like cat 300 series machines with standard booms are too darn short .
    We used hitachi EX270&300 excavators with 60 to 80' booms , i always wished for 100' .
Keep up the good work .

How steep things are don't show on camera well. I was watching the mountain stage of The Tour de France and the hill didn't look so bad. Then the camera man put the camera down at road level and it turned out it was extremely steep. It gave me a new appreciation of what the riders were doing. I know you don't suffer the haters well. I used to deal with the public and from what I saw about 10% belong in a rubber room. You guys are doing a great job. I live vicariously through You, Dirt Perfect and Lets dig 18.

I’ve said it before, but I’ve noticed that folks who have never DONE are those who know how to do everything🤔. I laughed at the comment that “it’s gonna fill up again so don’t clean it”…reckon they never mow their yard as grass is just gonna grow back.

I've been watching you for about two years and I must say thank you for sticking with Kubota and Vermeer etc.
All these other tubers are so quick to jump on the Korean bandwagon with their LS,TYM,Kato,Sany junk.
I buy and sell three or 400 tractors a year for a major auction company, we're not even allowed to have those brands on the lot unless they are no reserve just because they have pitiful resale value on the auction market, same way with Mahindra they're only allowed with no reserve.
A few months back we had our first TYM come through the auction it had eight hours on it two years old it was a leftover dealer tractor that they could not sell, I think it was the roughly 60 horse cab with the loader, MSRP was $44,000 originally in 2022, it brought $8800 at auction.
We can arrange financing for Kubota, John Deere, new Holland, Vermeer and case iH but we don't have a single lender out of 10 banks that will touch any of those are listed above from Korea for the exception of Kioti.
