Ray saying it's almost been a year since he played like a dragon is insane to think about. My family and I had covid at that time and I was in my room almost 24/7 and I never saw any gameplay of Yakuza or knew much about it at all, but I watched rays streams live when I could and watched the YT videos all the way through and that got me hooked on the series which got me to binge watch his playthroughs of 0-6 within a month or 2 and then later judgment which got me to love the series having 7 be like a comfort game for me. Now here I am playing through Lost Judgment as my first ever Yakuza franchise game blindly and I am loving it! Thank you for the amazing playthroughs and for helping me escape the horrible time of having covid Ray

He did like the parts with Kiryu and Haruka/Daddy Akiyama so he liked about 12 hours out of the 40 hour story lol
About the time when Lost Judgment takes place: The game multiple times states that it takes place about 6 months after the events of the first game, so everything going on is still pre-pandemic in the yakuza universe. Heck, the producers even stated once that when they make a Yakuza and/or Judgment Sequel that takes place post pandemic that it will have to adress it somehow, so it won't get ignored once it happens, whenever that is.
The game is 3 years after the first, there is specific dialogue that says 3 years. It's just been 6 months since Yagami/Sugiura have talked. I believe a side case involving a past character mentions it. Also the Tojo Clan is still around in the first, while they're disbanded in the second. The government cracking down on yakuza took much longer than 6 months.
Not to mention that in the beginning it says it's December 2021 so definitely in the pandemic times, it would be interesting to see how they would handle that besides having everyone wear masks and vaccinations which could nod to the first game!

I mean, in the other games it was pretty much the same, but they had at least a little change now and then. This time they are exactly the same, clothes and all. It's putting me off tbh.
three years isn't a long enough time for an adult to look significantly different, though. I would be bothered if they did look significantly different, including if their fashion changed. if the games were ten years apart, that would require some appearance changes, sure. maybe some more wrinkles and facial lines, maybe someone starts going grey early, etc. but three years isn't really a long enough time for that imo

But they're in the midst of puberty I think, lol. It was just a bit off putting in Judgment because so many things in the game seem so hyper realistic. But then again, it's basically a yakuza game. It's a mixture of pure wackiness and serious crime drama. I'm sure if they want to portray them in a different state they will do so in the future. It's a mixture of pure wackiness and serious crime drama. I'm sure if they want to portray them in a different state they will do so in the future.
And I can see that people of a certain age settle into a certain style. At least the idea seems very pleasing to me. I hope I get there someday. And I wish you good luck with that surgery too.

yeah, I can understand being a bit put off by it. tbh the thing that puts me off the most visually is Yamagi's fucking hair lol the design and rendering of it looks good but it's so messy and yet also floofy? Ichi's hair is messy too but it's messy in a way that's a clear visual cue that he's a Mess™️ and it's a bit comedic too
Yamagi's hair just looks....... I'm sure there's a reason why they designed it like this and maybe it's to draw a contrast between his really buttoned up lawyer look, and I know this is such a dumb complaint but oh my god
you know, the more I think about it, the more I see your point. I feel like Kaito's shirt definitely should have changed because to me, the shiny orange shirt doesn't have the same impact as it did when we first get introduced to him. a statement piece should make a statement, and this one doesn't anymore, at least to me, but then again, I started watching this directly after finishing Ray's Judgment playthrough, so maybe it's fine if you've taken a break between playing/watching the two games
but I will say, I'm so glad they have thus far kept Saori's style and clothes the same. I love that. it would have been too easy for the game to make her """hot""" like how the Yakuza devs made Hana skinny for literally no justifiable reason at the end of yakuza 4
