    Man that thing is a classic. I would love to get my hands on an old Soviet era car and throw a Small Block Chevy engine in it, with a big ole supercharger sticking out of the hood, and some slicks in the rear.

    I love this video about the 1984 VAZ-2102! I was looking at the rear view mirror, side mirror, steering wheel, ash trays, the great interior, the headliner, the pedals, the mats, the dash, everything. The rear lenses, the front grill, the seats, etc. My son and I have restored a few old cars, and one of our favorites is a 1986 Fiat, the Bertone X/19. I have a bad memory, so next time I look at our Fiat, I will compare. I recognized many similarities, even though our car is sporty and small. Thanks Sergey

    This is a tough looking little car without a bunch of bells and whistles to distract the driver or break down. I especially like the little vent window which scoops wasps into the car. There are few things more exciting than having a pissed off wasp in the car at 60 MPH!

    There are quite a number of VAZ in Sweden from 70's. They're in mint condition and many have never been run on the winter. People in Sweden bought VAZ to have as collectibles. You can buy them from $ 2500 and up. Then you get a Vaz that looks like it was made today.

    These were sold as Lada here in Scotland. You won't find one here now. When they were very second hand or heading to the scrap yard, they were bought by Russian sailors. They strapped them to their ships top deck, during the return trip to Russia they stripped the cars of any parts which they could sell back in Russia and dumped the rest into the sea. So you won't even find one in the scrap yards here, all recycled.

    Long after my 2015 car has been scrapped the Lada 1200 (VAZ 2102) will still be running and worth money - just look at prices on ebay for this car! Sadly modern car is not made to last anymore and normal person cannot repair themselves but must visit garage who has computer and cables. It is better to own old car.

    Had excactly one like that in the 80-s.
    Very reliable tough little car, no frills, no bullshit.
    It took you from A to B and started every morning in even the coldest wheather.
    And a very good heater.
    Not fast, not handling well.
    But tracking like a locomotive.

    I love old cars like that. They may not be the most comfortable to drive for long periods of time, or in heavy traffic...but they have a charm and character unmatched by any modern car. This car is so simple. Does Russia have any safety or pollution tests that cars have to go through in order to be roadworthy? I think a lot of these inspections killed a lot of old cars in Western Europe.

    • @jwserge
      @jwserge 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, we have no pollution inspections for the old cars.
      But Western aggresive policy towards Russia tries to kill all the best we have. But we oppress and we'll withstand ))
      Nevertheless, our new production cars comply todays Euro-3 Euro-5...

    They are just a 1960's Fiat design that was slightly modified. Fiat supplied VAZ with tooling.
    They are very tough cars if unsophisticated. It means that if they break you can fix it with simple tools and imaginative swear words.
    My home city of Hull in the UK was the import hub for these VAZ cars. Local taxi drivers loved them because they were cheap to maintain. I believe that they could not meet tougher EEC emissions regulations, but they seemed to disappear very quickly.
    Maybe the tooling at the plant was simply worn out as well.

    • @jwserge
      @jwserge 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it was HARDLY modified, according to USSR-Italian contract!
      Italian engineers have made more than 800 improvements in the mechanic of the car! As a result, our car is robust, it even weighes additional 200kg! And what was the fate of the Fiat-124? Where are they all? They disappeared fast!

    Great video. Ingrid? Avonoff? He's a great cameraman! Awesome car. I always thought it looked a little like a Fiat. Who knew? Thanks for the insight. Your friend is lucky to have it. If I were Russian, that would be my daily driver. lol I get what you mean in that the Vaz car represents old USSR integrity. I have a 1969 Mercury Marquis. Much larger of course, but built similar with a skinny steering wheel. PS PB though. No frills, Just comfort and lots of ashtrays. lol I like driving it for the same reasons. It was built when Americans were still using their labor and foresight making amazing things, before robotics took over.

      mobile homes like that are using by workers that bild houses, so you can see different kinds of that near any construction site all over Russia.

    • @Mayvau
      @Mayvau 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The style of manufactured/mobile homes is very popular in less populated parts of the US. Millions of people actually live in them here, usually in designated parks. Yet you can also find mobile homes in Malibu California that can set you back well over a million dollars to buy.

    Soviet citizens would have loved American muscle cars of the early 1970's. They had all the qualities of that car but everything was enhanced. When you make it to the US it would be great for you to check some out. I would suggest a early 70's Dodge Charger, a citizen could really take on the police with a car like that. Now what is the Real Russia for restoring classic vehicles and even modifying them with better engines or performance parts?
    Restoration of Model T's, restoration of '65 Impala, or Rat Rod's for example as well as complete custom builds such as hand forming body panels, and chassis that are common in England, North America and Other Countries.

    Wow I really want this kind of car now, but I'm too young to drive and don't have a license yet. Maybe one day...

      trabant was a eastern Germany thing. There were several Soviet car manufacturers with several different models. Our family had a Moskvich car for example.

    Over the years, we have had different foreign autos for sale here in the U.S. Many are no longer sold here or just not made anymore. These include European car brands like Renault, Simca, Borg Ward, Peugeot, Austin, etc.,. But, the car that didn't last long in America was the Yugo from Yugoslavia. That car had a reputation here for being just plain bad. In fact, I bet that Soviet VAZ was a hell-of-a-lot better than any Yugo built!
