      I remember seeing that in the 80s. I think it might be better to say when that was definitive, as the 70s and 80s was a revolutionary time for paleontology, when dinosaurs were first being thought of as more an 'in between' for reptiles and birds then purely reptilian.

    • @catpoke9557
      @catpoke9557 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      @@Dragonstorm62190 Probably not, actually. Large ground based predators need camouflage, in general, to catch their prey. Dinosaurs are also able to see in full color, which makes it even more important for something that HUNTS dinosaurs to not have bright colors, unlike modern birds.
      Birds strike from above so camo isn't as important. They also usually hunt animals with limited color vision.
      Basically, bright colors are viable on small fast animals that can fly or hide under brush. It's not viable for large predators.
      Though herbivores of all sizes can be bright. Herbivores just need to be fast enough or strong enough to escape a predator. Camo is optional

    Thank you for not using the JP T. rex in the 90s section lol.
    Jurassic Park did revolutionize Dinosaurs for a ton of people.
    But it still wasn't paleoart.
    This was a nice watch, seeing the way our perception of these animals changes throughout the years
    will never get old to me. Especially because it likely won't ever stop. I might have problems
    with the way dinosaurs are handled in pop culture. But i have deep respect for early paleoart. And speaking of. I was not expecting
    the nostalgia gut punch seeing all the artwork from the 2000s and 2010s in the background lol.

      Well, like i said. Jurassic Park was accurate for its time, and revolutionized dinosaurs for a lot of people which i happened more now a days in dinosaur movies.
      But, Jurassic Park's Tyrannosaur still wasn't our perception of the animal itself in the 90s. Paleontologists didn't see Jurassic Park's Tyrannosaurus as teh definitive T .rex.

    • @benjammin3381
      @benjammin3381 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Who are you speaking for exactly? I dont recal rex really having any distinct look before the movies came out, which quickly became THE look of the animal and the fact that most people today can recognize and likely name it speaks volumes to how iconic this look really is.

    • @genus.species3362
      @genus.species3362 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Again, i'm not criticizing the jurassic park design. But it was not the definitive portrayal of the animal. You can even see pictures of other 90s depictions behind the 90s T. rex model. Which itself isn't the JP rex.
      Yes, it was iconic. But it wasn't the only or most up to date T. rex at the time.

      It always looked like an animal! Even the first one! What the hell makes the others less like an animal to you? They all look equally realistic. People like you are so pretentious and condescending! What does an animal have to have in order to resemble an animal? An animal can have exposed teeth, and animal can have a dragging tail, and animal can be lean with a big head, and an animal can have osteoderms. The only thing close to not being realistically animal-like is the shrink-wrapping on the 90s Rex, but that is easily fixable. Just remove the bone protrusions and it's realistic!

      We actually added feathers to T. rex for a good reason. Basically we discovered that coelurosaurs were feathered animals, and at the time, every coelurosaur we were finding with integument had feathers. This changed after a bit of course with us discovering nothing but scales on tyrannosaurids. But at the time, it seemed feathers were universal for coelurosaurs. So our best bet, given that we were just guessing with T. rex, was to make it at least partially feathered.

    I’ve heard that only some t rexes in colder climates had feathers. But without knowing that, this video kind of implies that we thought they had feathers in 2016 but the took that back. I feel like a couple of footnotes talking about what type of new discoveries were made for that year would have gone a long way. Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the work put in, thank you .

    Me gustan las representaciones más antiguas, 1920-40, pues son las que me hicieron amar a los dinosaurios en los libros y películas antiguas, cuando arrastraban la cola y eran mas reptiloides, con escamas y sin plumas...aunque también me gusta la versión del 93. Obviamente las representaciones actuales pueden ser más realistas. Ahora el T-Rex tiene labios. Muy buen video! Ojalá puedas hacer alguno con mis amados brontosaurio, triceratops y estegosaurio. Saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱

    Amazing let's see how much more tyrannosaurus rex is going to change in the future and hopefully at some point why might hit the spot by finding out at least a 95% of how exactly it was but for that purpose we need better preserved fossils and melanin so we can determine its colours pattern.Good luck paleontology.

    First time i thought about this - the 2020 version is easily the scariest one.
    when it looked straight on to you and it have lips it felt more calculating and much less just as a scary beast

    • @william3100
      @william3100 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How does it feel more calculating? What nonsense is that? That feel is deluded by the fact that's not intelligent to calculate. It also looks more weird and goofy. T. Rex WAS an aggressive scary beast, so the look of a scary beast is more fitting and foreboding. Stop being a contrarian and realize why the scary appearance logically makes people psychologically more unsettled.

    Here is a comparison of the most complete and sure estimates of three theropod dinosaurs and an unsure estimate of a larger Spinosaurus:
    Tyrannosaurus rex (FHMN PR 2081 - Sue)
    Length - 12.39 meters
    Height (hip) - 3.8 meters
    Total height - 4.32 metrs
    Weight - 10 tonnes
    Giganotosaurus carolinii (Mucpv-Ch1- holotype)
    Length- 12.57 meters
    Height (hip) - 3.5 meters
    Total height - 3.76 meters
    Weight - 7.8 tonnes
    Spinosaurus aegyptiacus (IPHG 1912 VIII IK - holotype)
    Length - 9.43 meters
    Height (hip) - 1.85 meters
    Total height - 2.74 meters
    Weight - 3.7 tonnes
    Spinosaurinae indet. (MSNM v4047)
    Length - 14.43 meters
    Height (hip) 2.35 meters
    Weight - 7.3 tonnes
    Tyrannosaurus rex is the biggest theropod and by extension the biggest fully terrestrial carnivore ever to walk the Earth.
