Such a great video, thanks! Also, for people that feel like not stealing builds on gallery or that don't like doing landscaping: there are builds on the gallery that have the outside already done and will be empty so don't hesitate to check that if you're into building but not landscaping!
(Make sure bb.moveobjects is on before doing this) You can also save & make rooms of landscaping, build a room, raise up twice whatever you place inside the room, when you place the “landscaping room” , use the sledgehammer tool on the floor, click with mouse to delete the walls& use the terrain tool to raise or sink the ground on the items& plants you placed in that “room” you created. & slap some terrain paint on it. That’s my lazy way of quickly placing landscaping on lots. 😂
@@SnazzyArcade I was looking to actually landscape and upload. I just never thought of doing that. But thanks for that idea too... if I like someone else's landscaping, I could just download the lot and bulldoze the house!
You are incredibly tuned in to the things players tell themselves as they do this. Forget a world save, this is an excellent video on how to enjoy the build and CAS aspects of the game, period. All the same tips could be applied to live mode, too: don't insist on perfection, don't feel obligated to start/continue/finish XYZ, do it for yourself, not for others, etc.
100% agree on your insights about creating save files. I'm currently working on a save file. I gave all NPCs make overs and wardrobe overhauls. I also downloaded a lot of houses and community lots in the gallery to make my world more appealing. I always start in San Myshuno because of the apartments.
A fun way to make sims for me is using wheel of names. You can let the wheel pick every single thing to create more unique Sims. For me I always tend to gravitate to the same hair, clothes or shoes even makeup or eyebrows etc etc so it’s a great way to make your Sims more unique
I have been collecting names since the sims 3. I love 100 baby challenges and been doing it since the Sims3 and got sick of the same names over and over so I have a list of over 40 categories of names that I rotate through. Then when the kid ages up and leaves, I save them to my library for use later. (I hate CAS.) I have hundreds of sims, and thousands of names on my spreadsheet, new, and the ones I used in the Sims3. Categories like recipes, cartoons, infamous people, authors, plants, animals, geography, and the cosmos. So I have sims on my library named Maybelline, Donette (Lotharios kid if I remember correctly) Ravioli, Hagar (the Horrible), TyphoidMary, Dumas, Xerox, AuntRuby (a type of tomato), Shoebill (bird), Swagbelly, Fishbait, Crosley (car) and Limpopo (river). I literally have thousands of names collected over the years. I never have to look at Lily, Ian, Thomas, or Eleanor again.
I really like what you said about if the fun stops, simply stop playing. Because for a lot of people, the amount of tasks can be daunting and eventually stop being fun. Super important to point out!
I create a lot of houses strictly for uploading to the gallery so people can download them. That’s the whole purpose like you said. Where some creators complain is when someone downloads a lot then reuploads it and it then appears like it’s theirs even though the originator ID remains. I saw one just yesterday where a creator actually wrote “stop stealing from the gallery and create your own house”. Then like why are you uploading it to the gallery? Just to show everyone how great you are as a builder?
It is funny to me that you posted this because I just decided to start my own save file. I found a full bulldozed empty save file to start with and have been working on it slowly - so this was super helpful!
You have great and unique advice on how to actually enjoy the experience. I haven't seen anyone giving those same tips before and you made such good points. I might actually try starting a new save again, thank you!!
You make this process so accessible, and I really appreciate it. Making my own save has been overwhelming, but the process as you describe it seems doable - thank you!!
I have a current save file, I went through the gallery and downloaded a bunch of occults and placed them all over, I love the occults so that's my thing, I kept some of the original townies but I'm in the process of changing all the lots, its time consuming but so worth it. the gallery has amazing creations from our simmers so don't forget to check it out
Perfect timing, Satchie! I'm halfway thru setting up a save file now and so excited while also intimidated to start playing with it! 🤣 I'm at the stage where I populated my world with makeover townies, and giving them backstories, skills and jobs before I populate my custom sims that I will play with.
I’m so glad you talked about making use of the gallery. It drives me mad when people talk about downloading from the gallery like it’s actually stealing someone’s work, as if they didn’t upload it for people to view and use. I upload my builds because I WANT people to like them and download them for their own lots, whether as inspo, to alter or just keep as is. That’s the entire point, sharing your work with the community!
Having backup is a lesson I learnt the hard way. Last year, my laptop died. I had no backup. So the few things I uploaded in a gallery, that's linked to my account, so I have those. But I had almost everything just in my library. And I lost my safe file that was almost done, too. So I'm starting again and I'm just doing glow-ups and renovations - and for new non-residential lots and Newcrest, I'm mostly giving glow-up to households and lots from Maxis or library that came with different packs - there are two big families with pretty good houses from Parenthood trailer and I loved finishing up a house used in trailer for Movie hangout. And the most satisfying thing so far was moving all the parks in base game words to smaller lots, because it's a waste of great huge lot in great neighbourhood that was meant for farming, animals or gardening big time - and that is something I will enjoy building.
I definitely enjoy it. And Newcrest looks definitely better than the one from the old safe file. But I had so many nicely renovated houses for all the other words and I'm simply not in a mood to do it again...Windenburg was done it was filled with my best renovations so far...
I've been playing a medieval fantasy fusion save and I started by downloading a blank save (almost blank cause they didn't have some packs) but I just totally ignore worlds I'm not using and I got my little sister to redo all the townies to fit my vibe so nobody looks horrendously abnormal. Basically I'm just encouraging using your siblings desire to play to help. She made some really cute lesbians with 3 cats I'm so proud
I think taking stuff from the gallery should be an issue when you're downloading your save file to an open resource: if it's possible, I think you should at least acknowledge it, or better name other creators. But if it's for you, it's actually a great way to make your game more lively. I recently added some real life celebrities to Del Sol Valley in my legacy save, and I took them from gallery, of course, as well as their massive mansions 😂
Seriously, for starters, I think that deleting every single lot in the city is the worst idea ever for starters kkk. I think you’ll overwhelmed more quickly like that. I also just decided to venture myself into building my first save file and I started with New Crest, with the smallest lots. I just finished my first lot which is a basketball fort, and know I’ll start doing some residential lots, I wasn’t expecting that it would be so fun to do it and I just loved the result 😁. Building can be really fun so a friendly advice: Don’t focus too much on your end target (which is to fill up all the empty spaces), put yourself out there and enjoy the experience, plan, brainstorm, experiment… Looking for inspiration on the internet can also be really helpful 😄
Right now I'm just redoing all the community lots and I probably won't even touch any houses until I add a new household. I'm definitely not changing any of the townies either, although I may tweak their houses to fit a visual style.
Thanks for the video! I’m newish to the sims and my way of learning how to build is literally finding builds on TH-cam or Pinterest I like and copying them from scratch with my personal touch and decoration, it’s really a great learning method!
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been waiting so long for someone to finally explain this in such detail as you did with as many great ideas. I’m currently trying to binge watch every one of your videos. This is one of my favorites.
I rotationally play and the first thing I do is sim makeovers unless its REALLY bad I will keep the everyday and colour theme because having nancy and her sunglasses jogging everywhere is iconic but I will add new everyday where on brand for that sim
I've been playing the Sim 4 going on a month now I guess, and I have barely scratched the surface of acquiring all the packs, so I'm really trying to wait until I have at least a few more, but I really want to do my own save file. I'm coming to realize I'm not such a fan of actual game play, but I love playing in CAS and I love building (well, still learning that, but I do like it) I have loads of questions, but I think you answered a lot of them for me in this video. I'll be saving it to my Sims 4 Tutorial playlist for easy access when I get ready to start on my own save. Thank you for this little treasure trove of information.
I don't know if anyone is gonna see this now but if u want to make only the outside of the house not the outside (of sims house u know you will use/go inside
a tip I would give to help speed up the process would be: 1: create a random sim, you don’t have to do anything with them. 2: move them onto a random lot 3: go to manage worlds and evict them 4: delete them from played households How does this help? • Everytime you load the game it loads into manage worlds instead of some random family • Because it loads into manage worlds, you can easily access build/buy mode and cas without having to load into a random household. • With the cas mode from manage worlds, you can edit the households / add households without having to type in cheats because it’s already full edit mode. One of the negatives from this is that you can’t change relationships, milestones etc. but if you want to do that you can do that when you’ve finished a goal of yours like say you wanted to fill 3 lots, you’d change the relationships after that then repeat the steps to always load into manage worlds :) Another negative or positive would be that when you’re in build/buy mode it’s always set to infinite money but i’m not sure how to help with that lmao I hope this helps! (also im not sure if repeating the process does work 😭) ps: ignore the fact this is wrote like some english essay I wanted it to be helpful/easy to read 💀
I’m all basegame so I’m doing a save file in the basegame worlds and trust me coming up with which world I wanna do is so frustrating. I wanna do willow creek mainly bc I know how to do traditional but I wanna do oasis speings bc I love Mediterranean. Plus I have two famlies in oasis speings already
Basegame Townies often have their hair between outfits "unlinked" so if you just want to quick change one's hair from basegame playdough to a newer pack's you would have to go through every outfit to do so. You can go to the option to add a sim in the corner, click play with genetics and just clone your target townie as a twin and remake them from there with all outfit hairs linked.
I still beat myself up in my head for ever deleting my main save file that I had worked so hard on but changing EVERY lot in all the worlds lmao. I deleted it a couple years back because I stopped playing the Sims 4 during that time. I should have known better and known I'd eventually play it again (even though I'm slightly regretting it LOL). I am so grateful for simmers who have shared their save files with their hard work of changing lots and/or sims because it has really saved me a lot of time to make any changes right away. I'll still make changes over time but I don't feel overwhelmed to change all the lots because of these generous simmers
So mad at you RN. All these helpful hints - the concept of the spreadsheet for random dropped CC - so simple, but so gamechanging. But mostly because now I'm inspired to move my sim and 130+ children to a new save file with this save on its last legs. Literally can't believe you've done this to me.
What a wonderful video this was! I do some of these things randomly at times when I want a specific scenario for gameplay and totally agree you should do it for yourself not for anyone else. If you choose to share at some point then do but don't build to share. This was well presented and something i have not seen before.
This is honestly really giving me ideas for a safe file, I always thought I would be too lazy to do one, but this has inspired me to try and work on one! :D
This is really great advise! I can't tell you how many times I have started to do a custom save then was overwhelmed and deleted all my work. I'm going to try it again using your tips :) Thank you!!
This was so helpful - thank you! I've been thinking about this for ages but didn't know how to tackle it. I checked out a few other videos on how and they just totally overwhelmed me 😅 You broke things down so well and included things I never knew how to do... I'm going to make a save file! Yay!! Thanks again ❤
I like building my own lots so will usually demolish or renovate the lots that come with each pack when it comes out. Then when I want a new save I put in my own lots I’ve built
It means on the main menu, when you have started several new games, the button on the main page that says “load game” brings up a menu of each of your “sims save files”
One of the smaller thing I like to do is add traits to lots to make things more fun. I normally add in the Grody lot traits to bars and night clubs to simulate the idea that maybe your sims drank too much and are gonna be sick. Just adds a little bit of chaos to the world
I love stripping things down and rebuilding to make them better for me. I love finding things in the gallery that I don't feel the need to do that with.
4:38 thank you for saying that omg. You could apply that logic to custom content and be like "You should make your own custom content and not steal it." It's not stealing if you give credit to the owner. This is the entire point of the Gallery and CC, people want to share their creations. Otherwise they wouldn't post them online for others to easily use
I find it hard to get inspiration for some of the community lots. Like a library for instance. So the gallery comes in real handy. I always make it my own in some little or big ways. Also I like the gallery for CAS. I get so over whelmed with all their outfits. We could save outfits and adjust them here and there. Thanks love the video ❤❤
Maybe you have a main save where you play with aging off, or on a short or long lifespan, but you're doing a challenge that requires Normal lifespan. Or you have a save dedicated to a "legacy" family/challenge (where, while any number of Sims can exist in the world, you can only play with members of your legacy family if you're following the rules of the Legacy challenge to a T.)
When I attempted to do this (I say "attempted" because it's a lot of work LOL), I used SrslySim's Blank Save tool. It's a FULL BLANK save file to start completely from scratch. Cheers xx
Thanks for the tips. I have been -contemplating- doing one of these, just for myself. I hate building and CAS so it will likely be done the lazy way. That is, leave existing lots as-is and only fixing them if I decide to play on that lot, and fill empty lots with stuff from the gallery. Then get sims off the gallery and add a family or two that can pop up regularly. Not too many because I am not that creative and have difficulty with backstories. Maybe I'll add a couple of (long gone) ancestors with interesting life stories. It may take a long time for me to finish, because I have little motivation to mess with sims, lots and shit, so I will have to be in the right mood to go sifting through the gallery and adding stuff. I will also have to log in on my BFs computer because my home computers anti-virus blocks the gallery. It takes me longer to go through the gallery than it does for some people to built the lot because most of the houses have way too much clutter for me.
I have 2 save files that I use - one I use as the "default" new file whenever I want to start a new game that has some of my own lots & some of my favorite households added (also P.S. I have my holiday system saved on this file so I don't have to reset that every time!) and another I call "sandbox" that's really just used for building. Once I'm happy with a lot in the "sandbox", I replace it in the "default" save so I don't have unfinished lots in that save. (Another P.S. - you can save unfinished lots and upload them to your gallery and overwrite them each time you work on it for backup!)
i am a builder and play live a little but not too much. im on my 3rd savefile (in 5 years) i make it all cross pack and started again 2 months ago and i generally do as much as i can and some things i get from the gallery. i do all bulding first and then i do a quick lookthrough of what ive done and then make my sims to match.
I like to look up real houses and floor plans on google and replicate them. I find it really fun. Especially for archetecture that I know nothing about. Currently building a super modern minimalist starter home that i found on an archetecture blog.
I'm also trying to redesign my save file (even though I didn't touch the sims 4 for months now 😅). I usually try to add some minor touches such as slightly changing the sims outfits or recoloring community lots while adding a bit more activity there.
I’m building a save file right now. It’s like, the 4th time I have tried maybe, but I’m doing it more in line with my ADHD this time. Something that has helped me stay focused and interested is downloading builds from the gallery. I have used a variety of shells and move-in-readys. My favorites are the builds that are ready for a new family and have everything but the actual furniture. So they are functional (they have kitchens and baths) but they are otherwise empty. Like real life.
I always instantly make the household (including skills, jobs, traits using UI cheats), save them, and then make a house/apartment for them to move in. I will do this until the world is filled then do a rotational gameplay between all the households. It keeps me from being bored 😅. I HATE starting from the very start
I'm currently working on a save file with homes in more realistic architecture styles. The inhabitants of the homes are all of the Maxis made sims available on the gallery, including the 2014 sims made by sim guru zephyr. i have to fix a lot of outfits. i'm only through willow creek and i'm blown away by others' builds.
Thanks very much for advice!!! Just in time))) I decided to use only 10 packs for other can download, but I want use aaaaallllllll what I have! 😂😂😂 love your video ❤
I've been working on a world save, and I try to make the save 'CC ready' but not requiring CC. So, if I want to put a functional water tower CC in Oasis Springs, then it's ready for it, but you're not going to have the CC, you're not missing anything. Not like if you have a CC bed.
16:57 I have a lot of plans for saves, mostly ones I am slowly working on, but one I plan to do is make one that fixes relationships and adds in additions, similar to what you said. First steps right now to any new save, before I actually make the official replacement are add Iggy Pancakes to the game and make Johnny Zest the son of the Landgraabs. Technically it only says he’s related, but basically everyone assumes this means their son, Malcolm’s older brother. I’m tried to figure this out based off other games and I have working theories on how to fit them into the lore behind the rest of the games.
There is a mod by twisted mexi called underworld i think its basically endless night, and i want to make a vampire save where the world has been took over and there is vampires who run everything but there are groups of humans, mages, werewolve rebellions, i havent got far as when im playing i want to make a world when im making a world i want to play 😂😂😂
How do you “forget” a door lol I swear there’s also no toilet in one of the get famous houses…EA really said make the house expensive but forget doors and toilets
I’m currently doing a save file and have been doing one lot at a time so I don’t get overwhelmed and then taking a break and playing something like Minecraft or the sims 2 for a break since my world save is definitely gonna take a lot of time and work lol
It would be fun to have like a Sim encyclopedia where simmers can just info dump their favorite or current backstories, bios, world designs, etc. from their savefiles for everyone to use and build on. Gain inspiration from 🤣 I keep entire paper journals of literally all of my sims, npcs, lots, stories, relationships, clubs, world histories etc. for my save. Even drawn regional maps 😭 it's sick.
Love the video! A question: how to make sure sims don't move on with their lives while you are building the save file? Is disabling story progression enough when I also have MCC?
This had me stumped for ages. I set MCCC to follow Neighbourhood stories completely but still had sims moving, marrying and having babies. I ended up going through all the settings and anything that asked for a percentage I set to 0. It was time consuming and a little confusing but I got it to work. I suggest you try out the settings in a save that doesn't matter until it works for you. I also record my setting so that I always know for future updates. Hope this is helpful.
@@SamJones-qx9hz Thank you so much! The settings are different for each save, right? If I do that for my build save and put the MCCC settings all to zero, my gameplay save still remains with the MCCC settings I had for it, my "normal ones"?
@@franciscaespincho4411 unfortunately not. The settings you use will be for all saves. I have two mod folders set up that I swap between. I keep the one I'm not using on my desktop. Both are fully set up with the mods I use - I just drag them in and out depending what save I'm playing. It's a bit of fiddling around but at least I don't have to keep changing settings.

I don't know if anyone is gonna see this now but if u want to make only the outside of the house not the outside (of sims house u know you will use/go inside
a tip I would give to help speed up the process would be:
1: create a random sim, you don’t have to do anything with them.
2: move them onto a random lot
3: go to manage worlds and evict them
4: delete them from played households
How does this help?
• Everytime you load the game it loads into manage worlds instead of some random family
• Because it loads into manage worlds, you can easily access build/buy mode and cas without having to load into a random household.
• With the cas mode from manage worlds, you can edit the households / add households without having to type in cheats because it’s already full edit mode.
One of the negatives from this is that you can’t change relationships, milestones etc. but if you want to do that you can do that when you’ve finished a goal of yours like say you wanted to fill 3 lots, you’d change the relationships after that then repeat the steps to always load into manage worlds :)
Another negative or positive would be that when you’re in build/buy mode it’s always set to infinite money but i’m not sure how to help with that lmao
I hope this helps! (also im not sure if repeating the process does work 😭)
ps: ignore the fact this is wrote like some english essay I wanted it to be helpful/easy to read 💀
i really want to make a save file because i want to fix literally all the worlds, add restaurants, spas etc
I'll still make changes over time but I don't feel overwhelmed to change all the lots because of these generous simmers
this is so soothing, helping me get out of the frustrations, so tysm!
Honestly doing the lords work with this tut LOL thank u satch ❤
This is honestly really giving me ideas for a safe file, I always thought I would be too lazy to do one, but this has inspired me to try and work on one! :D
This is really great advise! I can't tell you how many times I have started to do a custom save then was overwhelmed and deleted all my work. I'm going to try it again using your tips :) Thank you!!
The way I wanted to start a save file today…
Honestly the best advice on save files I’ve seen. Thank you so much!
Then when I want a new save I put in my own lots I’ve built
the cc tips ad backing it up was SO helpful !!! this was such a good video
I've been a very casual player for years...um decades😅... and this was so informative!! Thanks so much!❤
Love this! I didn't really understand the term "Sims 4 save file". This really helped...but I doubt if I do one...lol
Just adds a little bit of chaos to the world
Thanks! I just started my first save world and I’m doing everything wrong. Lol. Have a wonderful day!!
Thank you so much for your support It means a lot you found it useful ❤ I'm sure you'll do a better job than mine ;)
I love stripping things down and rebuilding to make them better for me. I love finding things in the gallery that I don't feel the need to do that with.
this is such a helpful vid! I'm making a save rn where i use builds off of the gallery and its a collection of my faves
I've started making my own save file. This was very helpful
I've customized the whole file a couple times, it takes me at least a full week.
I do the same thing, build first with a sim in mind... there's no wrong or right way. Its about experimenting. If u dont like it, change it later.
13:59 i believe its growing together that you have to own instead!
I find it hard to get inspiration for some of the community lots. Like a library for instance. So the gallery comes in real handy. I always make it my own in some little or big ways. Also I like the gallery for CAS. I get so over whelmed with all their outfits. We could save outfits and adjust them here and there. Thanks love the video ❤❤
wow i’m so early! love you satch and your content. very funny & entertaining!
i tried to make a save file a while ago but lost motivation. hard to continue building when you lose motivation playing it lol
Cheers xx
Love the "Do not start with Daisy Hovel" as I was hovering over Daisy Hovel to start there....
I'm also incorporating cross pack play as well. Downloaded a mod for changing school venues so I can make a new school
This was awesome! Thank you so much and you should do more of these building and helpful videos.
You are adorably cheeky, love your videos!
For floor plans: 3ft = 1 sim build square (That is primarily how I like to build play.)
Honestly need your save file
Great video! Thank you so much 😊
"Stealing" things on the gallery doesn't mean downloading other people's creations, it means sharing it as your own creation
I’m currently doing a save file and have been doing one lot at a time so I don’t get overwhelmed and then taking a break and playing something like Minecraft or the sims 2 for a break since my world save is definitely gonna take a lot of time and work lol
Anyone else learning that Satch’s name is Jamie?
I honestly find it so much more satisfying fixing EA builds than I do when I build something from scratch for some reason.
we need to be able to download a saves file on console.
Yessss, it's so frustrating trying to build on console.
One thing I love doing is snapping photos of houses in my area and use them as a base, since I struggle with making homes that aren’t boxes 😂
Me: doesn’t own The Sims 4
Also me: oooooh interesting! **watches whole video**
I've actually been working on an Undertale save file by turning Mt Komorebi into My Ebott. 😅
Eliza is definitely a vampire. She drinks plasma from a poor Bob every day!
Just found your channel today and I've already said it on another video but I LOVE your laugh haha
Thank you! I loved this video and have seen you pop up on my suggestions recently. Glad I decided to check you out! :) new sub!
I kinda just do half and half and depending on the lot of I haven't reimagine that family yet I'll do that then build or the other way around
Tips for better gameplay: more personality mod and better self care mod. It fixes the sims and gives them the same personality as in sims 1-3.
I literally don't play, just spend time making a save file ☠️
I swear everytime my save file gets good my game crashes and i loose the whole save file 😔 even the house I made
I love the jokes and it’s true I don’t have friends but this was b]very helpful thanks watch 😊
Thank you for the video! It really helped me
thank you! Very helpful and appreciated!
I honestly never build as much as I used to in The Sims. I used the gallery all the time.
They making credible stuff that I could not😅😂
