I bought this exact kit when I was in school just starting out and wish I had never bought it. The only things I still use out of this set are the wrenches, the pliers, and the ratchets. The rest I either got rid of or wish I would have gotten from somewhere else.

But I envy you about those Tool Carts/Boxes from Husky, US General and Milwaukee - I didn't saw them in any form in the regular consumer Market here in Germany and I would love to have a 40" or at least those 5 Drawer US General Tool Carts for my Garage for that Price.

I've been a professional mechanic for 44 years and the most important issue regarding tool purchases is to shop first. Yes, buy a good quality box. I think my snapon is the best for drawer quality. As for tools, shop the pawn shops and negotiate price. I've bought so many snapon mac Matco cornwell, they all their and deals abound. Shop!!! Overal in 44 years I'd estimate my tools at $85k and I still repair other peoples work more than anything these days. Step up next gen! Most important tool for a mechanic is his diagnostic ability! and Dont be afraid of books!
And for the record the first snapon tool I bought was a tach dwell volt ohm meter from Dick Matson in Massachusetts in 1975 the best snapon tool guy ever who taught me and many other south shore mechanics smart tool buying.

Once my dad deemed me reliable ish, he gave me his big S•K sae full polish wrench set he got while in the Marines. Once I felt quality in my hands I fell in love. I like snap on and feel like they have some good quality tools. But I personally can't justify spending so much extra than other branded tools that also have lifetime warranties and cost a quarter the price.
The snap on dealer who comes to my shop has a lifetime warranty on everything he sells. Pay good money for tools and you won’t have to replace the cheap shit. Cheap tools are for weekend warriors. It’s an investment for mechanics. It doesn’t make financial sense to buy snap on, matco, Mac etc.. if you aren’t using them to make money every day. I m personally a matco guy but I like snap on a lot. Mac Cornwell and the others are trash in my opinion but I am really hard on all my tools.
Always buy cheap tools when starting, then replace what you break with higher quality. This will point out the tools you use most, those are worth replacing with top grade stuff. Don't go buying thousands in snapon tools if you're a home user. Buy a decent cheap set with 300+ pcs and replace what breaks with high quality.

yep, you may also find that much of your cheap set up is as good quality wise as some of the Gucci brands and last just as long except without the warranty. Warranty might not even be worth it though, if you lose your deep 10mm 3/8'' socket it isn't covered you're paying £20 again, or if you manage to keep hold of your deep 10mm 3/8'' socket with a piece of string or GPS tracker and it lasts 20 years and breaks you'll get a new one from Strap-On, but your generic tool shop own brand only costs £4 lasts 20 years as well then you'll only pay maybe £6 (inflation) for a replacement saving you £10. I do own quite a few Strap-On tools myself, roll cab and top box that i bought when i was young, dumb and full of cum.

I use feeler gauges to set gaps on spark plugs. I put the gauge in the gap and put the plug in my vise and add a little pressure. I find it easier and faster than a gap gauge.
All the time in on mining equipment. valve set every 2000hrs on most things. Every time you do a cylinder head or liner pack and set rings. List goes on and on.
I always said I don't'need' Snap On until I tried to pull a nail out of something that had part of it's head broken off. It literally tore a groove through my DeWalt pliers. Lost it, and went and bought SO pliers. Worked like a charm and not a scratch. I started to to understand what the fuss was about. Then it was a stupid bolt that got rounded and after borrowing a SO socket set never had the problem. Now I save up and buy SO. It is true what they say, poor people always pay twice. When hot and bothered, and you feel like catching snakes with your bare hands spending that extra just for blood pressure is worth it. Not for everyone, I agree. However, until you try and speak to someone that's warranty is from Taiwan vs Picking up the phone and the next day you have your replacement is to me worth the money. SO use Virgin steel and top grade materials AND they pay American families American salaries. The people that brag about Harbor freight vs SO, is ironically the first people who's jobs going offshore and then seem stunned because they have become redundant. Snap-on holds their value. I had a bottom box kra 1001, bought it for 5k, used it for 4 or5 years and then traded it in for....5k. I kept it relatively clean and mostly damage free. And snap-on service is usually pretty good. I've had almost every broken tool replaced for no charge with snap-on, and they deliver right to my hand. Yes they are expensive, but snap-on tools work like they should, repeatedly. Would you pay 20 dollars for a socket 3 times or pay 50 for a socket that will be replaced infinitely, no matter how many times it breaks, for free? If you use these tools daily, to earn your paycheck, you can't have broken sockets that you need to continually replace and pay for.
I’ll be honest with you I’ve got over 50k in snapon tools and if you’re not gonna go all out on the tools then it’s not worth it, like the ratchets those bare handle ones suck in the winter, the socket sets are missing a lot of sockets that are used on a daily basis. I prefer the Milwaukee gearwrenches over the Flank drive plus, gearwrench and Milwaukee socket sets do just as good, also Milwaukee’s got everybody beat on power tools. But I still love my snapon for certain tools, kind of like Harbor Freight it has its place but everything’s not worth buying. Bottom line get catalogs look at the reviews and see what everybody is saying about Tools.

i have harbor freight ratchets and use em professionally never had a problem i do own snap on wrenches though but harbor freight ratchets are good they have comfort grips as well :) and have not broken one yet use the right tool for the right job
Budget Tech I actually started out with some harbor freight stuff but I got tired of going in there and Warranting out the ratchets every month because the heads were stripping out on them, or the bolt was breaking at the flex joint.
I buy some stuff second hand on ebay, but if I use it alot like rachets drills etc. I will buy directly from snap on for the warranty. I just bought an old 1970s toolbox I called them for parts cause its was roached out. Snap on free of charge sent me everything to restore it. They are good ppls.
I've told many starter mechanics, "use these and try not to hurt yourselves". But most of these kids that I've worked with at least belonged in our business. Until they lost interest. Or they decided it wasn't for them.
You want to start a larger retainment percentage? Invest in car rotisseries so you can work on the car underside held at any angle at all and any elevation. I wanted to be a mechanic, but I didn't fit under the car, but I can work all day on stuff that is front of my face. A car that can be accessed by someone at any convenient angle makes the work a lot less like work. I am somewhat surprised how little this old invention is in use.
Probably moon rocks or Haleys comet.. My dad has snap on/matco tools valued at 125,000 bought since 1990. I wish I would get them but they are going to a grandkid.
This looks like a great set...if you have a garage. The way I live I need a quality kit that I can keep in the trunk of my car or under the back seat of my Avalanche. I would pay the crazy Snap-on price just to avoid the current Kobalt, Husky, and Craftsman kits that are out there. They have decent tools but the boxes are all lacking and fall apart in short order. If Snap-on ever offers these types of kits I would buy one in a heart beat.
Make me feel bad because a “starter” tech have no reason spending that kinda money to get there job started. First checks will be paying of loan or just running into debt.
I don't know the designation for it but I once got a set recommended for Nissan mechanics and I have to say it was very comprehensive, covering almost all the basics one could need for hand tools when starting in the trade. That being said, it also had no SAE gear in it.
snap on really needs to get with the program and understand that most techs cannot afford these tools on the diminishing wages they are earning. who wants to spend 30k in tools to earn 40k a year? if snap on doesnt change this business model to adapt to todays times they will not make it. look at autel, irwin, knipex, milwaukee, sunex etc. all half the price or less and just as good of quality if not better.
Erm.. yea thet have. Eletric tools are making noise now. Air impacts are stronger. Square drive, e torx, torx, torx plus, tamper proof torx. Those are things you didnt see on vehicles 20 years ago if you did it was extremely rare. Now it's getting common place to see.

Sure glad I was dating my wife at the time when I first started and charged up 15k in Snap on right away. Lol. I have been doing it for 20 years now. I wanted to buy a new box but mine got destroyed by everyone else over the years. Word to the wise. Get a tool box cover. My current box is 14 years old. The first month I owned it I showed up on a day off at work and a coworker was grinding right in front of it and embedded metal in the paint. I was so pissed off. A lot of mechanics don’t realize the value of Snap on. Another time I had a coworker throw a starter on the top of my box. In my current shop all of the mechanics have less then 5 years experience. Only 1 of them buys snap on. The others buy harbor freight. Their tool boxes are dirty and they don’t get it. I have to hound them to get things clean and to put tools away as you work and not a huge pile at the end of the day. When I first started everyone had Snap on or Mac tools. Maybe one guy had a craftsman box. About 70 percent of my tools are snap on. My box is always clean and spotless. I always tell people This. A real mechanic has a clean car and clean tool box. They work on cars even in their days off. The rest are not dedicated mechanics.

Some of my videos go back to 2006 on some of my channels and prices and availability changes over time. you would be pretty pissed if you seen a video from over 10 years ago and expected that price and the dealer will not sell it at that.

I bought a snap on box with every tool snap on made with a lot of duplicate wrenches in 1983 it was a Dale Earnhardt edition I gave $8,500 some of the tools were unused the man that sold it to me was having heart problems and retired. They were nice well made tools and the box was a monster but snap on tools made now are cheap overpriced Chinese junk!!!

Would you pay 20 dollars for a socket 3 times or pay 50 for a socket that will be replaced infinitely, no matter how many times it breaks, for free? If you use these tools daily, to earn your paycheck, you can't have broken sockets that you need to continually replace and pay for.
I’ll be honest with you I’ve got over 50k in snapon tools and if you’re not gonna go all out on the tools then it’s not worth it, like the ratchets those bare handle ones suck in the winter, the socket sets are missing a lot of sockets that are used on a daily basis.
I prefer the Milwaukee gearwrenches over the Flank drive plus, gearwrench and Milwaukee socket sets do just as good, also Milwaukee’s got everybody beat on power tools.
But I still love my snapon for certain tools, kind of like Harbor Freight it has its place but everything’s not worth buying.
Bottom line get catalogs look at the reviews and see what everybody is saying about Tools.

Yeah the wrenches from Milwaukee are cheap on tool Topia, for the price you pay for them I think they’re just as good as the snap on.
i have harbor freight ratchets and use em professionally never had a problem i do own snap on wrenches though but harbor freight ratchets are good they have comfort grips as well :) and have not broken one yet use the right tool for the right job
Budget Tech I actually started out with some harbor freight stuff but I got tired of going in there and Warranting out the ratchets every month because the heads were stripping out on them, or the bolt was breaking at the flex joint.

I buy some stuff second hand on ebay, but if I use it alot like rachets drills etc. I will buy directly from snap on for the warranty. I just bought an old 1970s toolbox I called them for parts cause its was roached out. Snap on free of charge sent me everything to restore it. They are good ppls.

I've told many starter mechanics, "use these and try not to hurt yourselves". But most of these kids that I've worked with at least belonged in our business. Until they lost interest. Or they decided it wasn't for them.
You want to start a larger retainment percentage? Invest in car rotisseries so you can work on the car underside held at any angle at all and any elevation. I wanted to be a mechanic, but I didn't fit under the car, but I can work all day on stuff that is front of my face. A car that can be accessed by someone at any convenient angle makes the work a lot less like work. I am somewhat surprised how little this old invention is in use.

This looks like a great set...if you have a garage. The way I live I need a quality kit that I can keep in the trunk of my car or under the back seat of my Avalanche. I would pay the crazy Snap-on price just to avoid the current Kobalt, Husky, and Craftsman kits that are out there. They have decent tools but the boxes are all lacking and fall apart in short order. If Snap-on ever offers these types of kits I would buy one in a heart beat.

I don't know the designation for it but I once got a set recommended for Nissan mechanics and I have to say it was very comprehensive, covering almost all the basics one could need for hand tools when starting in the trade. That being said, it also had no SAE gear in it.

I honestly thought there was going to be a few tools and the rest were going to be 100’s of Allen keys and 1/4” bits.
I have found that these starter sets from snap on have too much of what you don’t need and not enough of what you do.

snap on really needs to get with the program and understand that most techs cannot afford these tools on the diminishing wages they are earning. who wants to spend 30k in tools to earn 40k a year? if snap on doesnt change this business model to adapt to todays times they will not make it. look at autel, irwin, knipex, milwaukee, sunex etc. all half the price or less and just as good of quality if not better.

Erm.. yea thet have. Eletric tools are making noise now. Air impacts are stronger. Square drive, e torx, torx, torx plus, tamper proof torx. Those are things you didnt see on vehicles 20 years ago if you did it was extremely rare. Now it's getting common place to see.

Sure glad I was dating my wife at the time when I first started and charged up 15k in Snap on right away. Lol. I have been doing it for 20 years now. I wanted to buy a new box but mine got destroyed by everyone else over the years. Word to the wise. Get a tool box cover. My current box is 14 years old. The first month I owned it I showed up on a day off at work and a coworker was grinding right in front of it and embedded metal in the paint. I was so pissed off. A lot of mechanics don’t realize the value of Snap on. Another time I had a coworker throw a starter on the top of my box. In my current shop all of the mechanics have less then 5 years experience. Only 1 of them buys snap on. The others buy harbor freight. Their tool boxes are dirty and they don’t get it. I have to hound them to get things clean and to put tools away as you work and not a huge pile at the end of the day. When I first started everyone had Snap on or Mac tools. Maybe one guy had a craftsman box. About 70 percent of my tools are snap on. My box is always clean and spotless. I always tell people

I don't show the price because you can easily google it to get the current price. Some of my videos go back to 2006 on some of my channels and prices and availability changes over time. you would be pretty pissed if you seen a video from over 10 years ago and expected that price and the dealer will not sell it at that.

I bought a snap on box with every tool snap on made with a lot of duplicate wrenches in 1983 it was a Dale Earnhardt edition I gave $8,500 some of the tools were unused the man that sold it to me was having heart problems and retired.
