    I use Ethernet POE Splitters to power a number of Pi4 based projects. Would this be a good fit for the WLAN Pi? The splitter I use is rated to output 5V @ 3A, would the WLAN Pi software \ hardware run into issues with that power budget? It would think that only needing a single cable to the device would be attractive if deploying at a client site for extended periods

    How fast of a Wi-Fi / LAN / WAN connection can this thing test?
    My RPi 4's Ethernet port gets 500 Mbps at best, and my home WAN service is now 3 Gbps symmetrical, with Ubiquiti 10 Gbps LAN and the U6 Enterprise In-Wall WAPs.

    • @NickJVTurner
      @NickJVTurner หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Ethernet port of a Raspberry Pi 4 should max out around 940 Mbps, that is the maximum achievable throughput of a Gigabit ethernet port.
      On the USB 2.0 ports a Wi-Fi NIC would max out at 320 Mbps.
      On the USB 3.0 ports a Wi-Fi NIC would max out in the 2.4-2.8 Gbps range, this would require a USB Wi-Fi NIC and Access Point that could achieve data rates in excess of 3 Gbps.
      If your RPi 4 Ethernet maxes out at 500 Mbps, I suggest troubleshooting the cable, the hardware you are hooking the RPi 4 up to and then the speedtest methodology you are using.
      I don't understand the question regarding WAN testing.

    Not sure where to ask this question, hopefully some one will see this comment that has some ideas. I've got a enclosed trailer that i've converted to a camper, and my phone gets literally zero connection to the cell towers. I use this phone as a hot spot and place it on the roof of the trailer, and barely get wifi inside the trailer.... Is there a more elegant solution. I've tried a cheap wifi range enxtender, but it doesn't seem to play well with android's mobile hot spot.

    Considering how long the Rpi 5 has been out I can't understand why they are not using it as well. All of these individual packages and hardware that make up the device seem to all be supported on Rpi 5 so it should not be an overly different setup on top of Pi OS.

    • @CrosstalkSolutions
      @CrosstalkSolutions  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      Probably because it's an open source project with people donating their time to make something awesome rather than just complaining online about how something should be. You should volunteer for the project and lead the effort to get it compatible with Raspberry Pi 5.

    • @JiriBrejcha
      @JiriBrejcha 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      The shift from Bullseye to Bookworm (required by RPi5) takes some effort. We are working on that but we are not quite there yet.
      RPi5 runs significantly warmer than RPi4. So we are happy with the current setup.

    • @pearcomputers2542
      @pearcomputers2542 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Why would you want to use a Pi5? From what i can tell it wouldn't be better suited as the features it offers over the Pi4 aren't needed. It would just drive up the hardware price and i would expect much more people having a spare Pi4 over a Pi5. And AFAIK there is a commitment to produce new Pi4 until at least 2031. That seems long enough for now.

    • @kuhrd
      @kuhrd 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pearcomputers2542 Mainly because I already own 3x Pi 5 units and I don't own a single Pi 4 because they were near unobtainium for so long that I bought the Pi 5 when it came out instead because the Pi 5 units were cheaper to actually purchase where I live at the time.
      The other reason is that the Pi5 is built on roughly 4 years newer and faster hardware with support for NVME, RTC battery, faster WIFI and the idle power consumption is about 2-3 watts with the fully loaded power consumption being higher at 10-12 watts but still easily able to be cooled with a passive case. (I don't think I have ever seen any of my Pi5 units go beyond 8 watts unless I am powering a mechanical hard drive from the USB 3 port.

    • @abo3abid1
      @abo3abid1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The pi 5 is too expensive for it's niche industry. The pi foundation seem to have forgotten what it's supposed to be. I realize that it's so powerful and such, but that not what the SBC industry wants. Look at the sales of the Asus Tinker Board or the NVIDIA Jetson Nano, people don't want expensive SBCs
