Hi Wayne , Loving your vids , I'm a lone shooter ( don't know any slingers close to me) and you vids really help , so thank you. I have a question if that's ok, your bands active length is 180mm , is that using your draw length divided by 5.5 ?
Mark S hi mate, glad you’re enjoying them and they’re helping 👍 There’s no equation to suit all bands unfortunately, the amount I divide by will change from band to band, and whether it is summer or winter. All bands I try I tend to start with around 18cm, some I’ve had to take in as far as 15cm to hit the sweet spot. There’s no hard and fast rule I’m afraid. I usually find a division somewhere from 4.5 - 5 works with most modern bands.
Thanks Wayne , yeah I make you right, it's not just TBG that's on the market these days , it dose get a bit overwhelming as to what elastic to go for at any one particular time. I suppose I should be happy there's lots of choice out there now. The Chinese have really pushed the quality of the elastic in the last couple of years. About your band template , are the numbers customisable ? Also, it's good to hear a southern accent in association with slingshots , I live on the Themes estuary, the Essex side ( Old Corringham ) , do you know of any slingshot clubs or meets local to me , or at least down south ?
Mark S Yeah they really have mate. Even the last 18months I’ve been involved with flat band, things have moved on quickly. Unfortunately these templates are as is, but as explained in the video, you’re able to work with the length, just not the taper. With regards to clubs mate, I don’t I’m afraid, I don’t get involved with that side of things.
No worries, thank you. I look forward to your next vid. I've seen your website, I'll be getting one of your templates soon. Thanks again and all the best.
Hi Catty, I'm actually using 9.5mil lead ammo and gold Thera Band. I'm using an homemade "over the top" slingshot. I have the same anchor point as you but my shot (in distance) really fall down.. and I'm pretty sure that the problem result in my band.. How can I improve them to shoot far (like 20 to 30m) and straight? Sorry for my bad english. Have a good day
Hi Wayne Do you do any videos on showing the catapult models you make like gamekeeper John at all only I want to buy one or two of your catapults Terry Wilson
Awesome! I can’t wait to watch it! Thank you for replying :) Just one question, is it most effective to use a band that fits perfectly on my fork width? Because my fork width is 20mm and the band that came with the slingshot is 22mm, just 2mm wider and it over hangs a little bit. (You don’t have to answer if the answer is long, and you’re going to cover it in your future video) Wow, it’s so complex! At least for me. I’m currently practicing with an ott style because I think I hit better this way (my slingshot has both ott and ttf features). I hope I can hit a target like you in the future. Thank you Wayne, Josh.
Josh Lee no problem Josh, thank you. Having the band a bit wider than the fork tip isn’t ideal, but it’ll do no harm really...especially as its only 1mm each side, I wouldn’t worry about it too much for now. 👍
Hi Wayne, it’s my very first time with a slingshot, and while I was searching to learn how to shoot, I landed on one of your videos and I’m very impressed by your skills! I need HELP... Everyone is saying that I need a right band set for different individual sized ammos to shoot effectively, but I haven’t found a clear answer to what makes it a suitable band for different sized ammo yet. So far, I understood that the length of the band would be different for everybody due to their different draw length. Does that mean the taper size determines which ammo should be used with it? because for example, ‘SimpleShot’ slingshot website sells 5 different bands for different sized ammos, but they’re all 7mm think and 270mm in length. I can’t see what band width they’re in their photos, so I’m just assuming it’s a taper size that makes a difference? Because I want to shoot 8mm ammo and want to know how it all works. Thank you, Josh.
Samiad B You can cater your bands to suit your own personal requirements. It’s a very individual thing, but I’ve found across the board, that 25/20 is the most preferred cut for hunting. Whether that be in 0.65 or 1mm. Matching the ball weight to the band is very important also.
Samiad B sounds good mate! Making your own is far cheaper, and experimenting with different bands / cuts and tapers is half the fun initially. You’ll find what suits your needs and settle on a set up that suits you.
I was using mine today, cutting some fresh rubber! Made the job so much easier.. 👍👍
