Finding Hope in Times of Darkness

  • Finding hope in times of darkness is difficult, but so necessary to our happiness and attitude towards life.
Hope is so often a misunderstood virtue, it’s no wonder people usually undervalue it.
Bobby Angel lets us know that hope is not the false optimism that says, “I hope I live to see the day when poverty is no more,” and it’s not simply a wishful expectation like when you say, “I hope I get that awesome laptop for Christmas.”
Hope is a gift from God that helps us keep our eyes on heaven, even when things seem dismal and dark here on earth.
As Pope Benedict XVI said, “One who has hope lives differently.”
Here are some excellent resources on this essential topic.

Life is Worth Living by Archbishop Fulton Sheen (bit.ly/2U89fQ9)

I will pray for your uncle. Cuz I'm exactly like him. I make music, teach, study my 3rd uni, I know 6 languages and I laugh all the time, I have travelled all over the world at 24 but when I'm alone, I tend to think to myself what is worth living. Majority is lying and the relationships are corrupted. I want to meet Jesus, etc. I am depressed. I have 2 more wishes to realize if God helps me. And then I will feel real happiness. And one of them is to teach the orphans every wonderful thing I know. The only thing that makes me continue is the kids. Of course after Jesus.. Anyway. May God forgive and bless your uncle. 💙

I suffer from chronic depresssion . I accept this suffering as my existence in this life , which helps me through my day . My hope is all with God in eternity that it will be better there . Sadly many people keep trying and struggling to be happy . This backfires as life is pain and sorrow but only sprinked with true joy .

So sorry about your uncle. That scenario you described with your family is what keeps me here. I couldn’t bear to do that to my family, even though living is sometimes unbearable for me. I just pulled out my copy of Victor Frankl’s book. I’ve had it for a while. It’s probably time I read it. God bless you.

Many people hide their inner pain through humor. Look at comedian Robin Williams.
I've noticed something extraverted people have a more difficult time coping with hardship in life than introverted people. An extraverted person needs the approval of other people to make themself feel better about themselves. They also tend to be more sensitive when bad things happen in their lives. An introvert doesn't need approval from people in fact they tend to have few or no friends they know that no one has their back but themselves therefore they are better equipped to deal with what life throws at them.

Part of living this life is that we all will be mostly depressed sad grieving worrying frightened but it’s meant to be that way the good times will come and raise us up for a short time but if you find god who is Jesus it’s a lot easier to get through the hard times and when they come you find it wasn’t really much to care about plus the next life with Jesus will be brilliant and last forever so just confess with your lips Jesus died for your sins and you will be saved god bless

    PAIN
    Run where too,
    Pain knows,
    Pain sees,
    Pain hunts,
Pain smells the Stench of your happiness.
Pain devours your dreams , to vomit them.

For the past two weeks on Sunday it has seems that I started and truly hate the music that is played at chruch. I use to like singing in chruch but now the music is so blan to me. It seems stupid but for a guy who is in band it means quit a whole lot to me. I like more of orchestra than a Christian rock band.

Early morning masses are usually quieter and for the more traditionalists. All the 6 or 7am ones in my area have no music. I love it too because all you see is a sea of gray hair.. the die hard older Catholics that make the experience and prayer so much better.

If God does not exist, there is nothing to look forward to beyond death. In the end we will die and it will be for nothing; what is the point? We can make up a purpose that makes us feel good and forget our inevitable death, but the only thing that gives us true purpose is the reality that God exists. Because that means we have somewhere to go, and that means there are things we have to do to get there.
