Another excellent video. As someone who is looking to buy a commercial style roaster to scale up from smaller batches I'd like to ask if this machine could handle 2.2kg green loads. I'm hesitant to purchase a larger machine but would like 2kg drop weights are each roast. I'm trying to research an affordable way into the coffee roast / sale market small scale.
You'd probably want to pick up a 3kg roaster, if you want your max batch to be around 2.2kg. Generally think about your batch sizes being around 75-80% of the roasters max capacity. While you technically could roast that much in a 2kg, you won't get a good roast, nor would you be able to replicate with any accurate consistency. I was in the same boat as you around roasting in small batches. I was able to work out a deal with a few of my clients to loan me the money to buy the roaster. I pay them back in coffee at retail prices, so it's a good loan for me in that capacity. But you should expect to spend about $4 to $5k to get a roasted delivered from a China manufacturer.
@@ocdcoffeeclub4796 Thank you for your response. Yes , I agree with the larger roaster. Unfortunately being in Australia things are somehow double the price . A 3 kg roaster would be around 12k given a 2kg roaster starts at 9k and is from China. Anything made here starts at 15k but is local to my city.

I used a cheese straining pouch to catch the chaff. I didn't hook up a venting duct for that. The only vent I have his from the cyclone fan. Because I only have a 2kg roaster and the cooling tray vents out a minimal amount of warm air, it's not really necessary for me to vent the cooling tray out of my garage. Hope that answers your question.

Hi I got one roaster same manufacturer Yoshan, I just wandering does your drum is cast iron or stainless steel? When I purchased from them, they only told me they use stainless steel instead. I watch your video and notice your temperature is very stable even in 2.5 kPa looks stable too. My regulator only upto 2.8 kPa. The temperature was not that stable as you have. Thats why I am very curious about it.
Hey Stanley, sorry for taking so long to respond. Are you using LP Gas? If so, do you know how high your regulator goes? If you have a low PSI regulator, you're not going to be able to top out your kPa. I found one on amazon.com that goes up to 30 PSI. I hope that helps. Oh and my drum is stainless steal, not cast iron.
@@ocdcoffeeclub4796 Thank you for replying. I already bought a new regulator which is up-to 6.9 kpa. So I can reach 3 kpa right now and keep my heat more stable right now.
Hi It's Stanley again. I have been roast many times of the coffee beans. The taste is not very good. Even I have follow the basic roasting instructions with roaster school. But still not comes best result. I assume this is the stainless steel different to my previous cast iron. Therefore, may I try your roasting recipes to find out where is my roasting steps gone wrong. @@habibihabti1149 A basic example of how I adjust the gas during a roast. When I charge I started 4K PA, at 300° I drop it to 3.6 K PA, at 325° I drop it to 3.2, at 350° I drop it to 2.8, at 365° I drop it to 1.5. At that point I’ll ride the current KPA to first crack. I’ll probably adjust the airflow from 40 to 50 right after first crack. At about 12% development I cut my gas down to 1K PA and that 15 or 16% development I will drop it again to .5 K PA.
