I’ve got tears in my eyes looking how many we have lost. Lisa, Kobe, Jam Master J, DMX 😢
Back when we actually couldn't wait to tune in to award shows, because they were actually GOOD and WORTH watching.
I miss award shows like this everyone was themselves back then
I know
Everybody was different & TALENTED artists
No politics , just raw and authentic . Everything got so commercialized…..
This current generation badly needs a Lauryn Hill.
To me, Kendrick Lamar and J Cole is currently almost like the male version of Lauryn Hill
Idk man. Rico Nasty kinda different rn. In terms of the rapper/singer exotic female bag goes🤷🏽♂️
@@jamalphipps2209 J. Cole has rapped extensively about bitches and his exploits of being hypersexual. He hardly deserves to be in the category of Ms. Hill.
@@TheRoundtable_RTG I do we just have to make them realize what’s really cool everyone is acting nowadays there’s no realness at all
Kendrick preaches the same stuff but we need a woman
The Best years ever wish I can go back to them days
I’d like to revisit but not remain 🙋🏽♀️
Ikr. I was everywhere then
I am a 1960s baby and I loved this era my kids sis to they still listen to all of the 1990s we were all hooked on to mtv the list is long .
Same bud
Watching this makes me feel so old 😂 . I had this on VHS back then. Good times
Do you look the new technology cuz I feel like it would be so cool to have a vhs tape it just makes it more of a experience
Great times
Me too
Crazy how so many of our greats shown here died young. And this was just a few years after Pac and Big died too. This award show was powerful in so many ways.
Exactly that's why this is golden tomorrow isn't promised to any of us.
So good to see Left Eye!
Was thinking the same...rip DMX an Kobe to say the least!❤
YOOOO !! Janet was there!! It is so funny to see her on that stage with all of those rowdy-ass rappers.
She was so calm and graceful. i love it!
🥇
Janet and the jacksons pretends alot ..they are rowdy behind the scenes
This is nothing new to her
She’s a lot more “hood “ than people think the same with MJ
I no rite? Surprised she attended!
One of the best award shows of all time.UPN was big for the culture
Yea until they put WB & UPN together and separate 😢
Absolutely was. I miss UPN. ❤❤❤
@@Karl671 Yes the executives did that
2023 and still watching it like it’s my first time..GREAT MEMORIES!!🥰🥰
I no rite? It's 2024 already an I'm watchin it😂
Did not know Kobe was at the source awards that's dope af 💯🙏🏾🙏🏾
I knew
He went to plenty source award shows. You can catch him in audience footage.
I no rite!?😂
And Allen Iverson
RIP X your missed your music lives within us forever @reelblack thank you for uploading these precious memories we grew up in.
I'm in tears yo
Back when the awards had athletes apart of there events
Ikr real shit🎯🎯
& talent was very necessary to attend
*a part* not apart and *their* not there. 😂
Oh my gosh, I spent the whole summer of 99' visiting family in the Bronx all the way from London. But I watched this at my cousins' house in Yonkers- I always remember Lauryn Hill saying 'you better walk that walk' and understood what she meant as a child. This nostalgia is everything. And I needed Eve to get her flowers like, yesterday!
Wats nostalgia mean??
@@PrettyNicky50 Memories of the past, normally in a really good way. Almost in a dream like state sometimes.
Left eye, Dmx and Kobe gone 💔💔💔
😢 🙏🏾
Hurricane G 🕊️
Even Jam Master Jay❤
Life is short
Left eye was so beautiful she had the biggest beautiful eyes I had the biggest crush on her when I was younger rest forever in paradise queen
Damn the crowd was so happy to see NAS after Diddy 😄😄
i was so impressed by Eve back then.
My initial thoughts of her while watching her interviews back in 98/99 was:
"She is so cool."
The stylish way she dressed, her calming speaking voice and mature composure. ..
Even the confident way that she patrolled the stage at this award show, Eve is just a cool-ass woman..
Through and through.
She hasn't changed much either.
Eve was always my favorite ❤️
@3:53 Lisa “Left eye” Lopes 🥀
Watching this in 2023...and all I can say is WOW!! Rap Music was very creative back in the day... Puff is a true entertainer tho.. solid performance by all the artists..
They actually performing now awards bunch of nothing
It's amazing how much music has grown over the yrs yo so happy hip hop still lives!❤
although outkast are no longer together,i'm grateful that i was around when they existed
Reunion soon
They went hard Core yo...remember playn "player's ball anthem" all the time back then
Love seeing how the crowd went crazy when Nas came out!!! 😍😍🔥🔥And Diddy is sucha goofy 🙄😒
Took the words out my mouth.
You'll get over it
8:22 that smile from left eye ❤️
This new generation needs talent.
R.I.P DMX and Kobe Bryant
R.I.P. Left Eye as well.
So many lives lost in the 90s since than list goes on

This was a 🔥 upload... 🙌🏾 Damn i miss them days. Some of them outfits was flagrant 😂😂
Just look at the nominees for the awards!! Legend after legend!! Shit ain’t the same!!!
Ese bico é para Min?
@@xosemarceloromeuherbon7315downbad
Wishn Eminem would of won instead of Laryn
@0:45 Kobe Bryant 🥀
The legendary Jaleel White was up in the house.
He definitely wasn't shy despite the crowd surrounding him
DMX forever ♥️
But of course..man I miss him!😢he was so humble up there yo! ❤
I was a big hip hop head at the time but was in rural Kenya and we barely had TV in the late 90s 😂 I'm glad TH-cam has this.
Rite😊
Thank you for sharing!
This straight out the Time Capsule
I’m so happy I came up on this hip hop. I was born in 1988. Nowadays people paint there fingernails (men) because of there favorite artist. Where did we lose this generation?
Authentic raw talent… when everybody was themselves and proud of their own sound and culture.
Baby down bad can he let Juvenile speak on behalf of the award HE just won. LAWD!!!!!
He think he diddy
Baby and Wayne 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Not really. It was the first award anyone from CMR won in their label's history. They all won.
@24:30 Jam Master Jay 🥀
YO!!! REELBLACK!!! ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿 IF WE KNEW THEN, WHAT WE KNOW NOW. ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿 KEEP DROPPING THE CLASSICS, GOOD LOOKS!!!
That’s why I just fallback sometimes. Like, nah you got the floor right now. Get ya sh*t off. I’m listening🙂
Wow where did we go wrong ..sweet memories …

This was a good hip-hop age. I don't know what is going on today. Mumble rap, Trap rap.
Rite! Cnt understand nuthn they sayn...an they said our rap would not last!!
Luv this!
@ or near 55:44 #Libras... the very sign that rules grace & diplomacy!
Luv true Hip Hop!
Luv you Ms. Hill!
What a time to be alive
This was the last good times in hip hop
I agree
Damn. That’s crazy🙆🏽♂️🍿
I’d say 03 was the last great year in hip hop well for the golden era anyway
Yep before hip hop took a nose dive to trash 🗑️
I love looking back on these award shows however it really saddens me. If you watch the 1995 legendary source awards then watch the 1999 award you can see how we got to the state of rap that were in now. Everything started to become materialistic and mainstream.
Yep I agree. Blame it on the record label owners who dictated what artists /rappers could say and promote on their albums.. based on the allowed budget… if you said ignorant things, you grabbed the big budget. If you spoke intelligence, record label gave low to zero budget

@@xp8969 Facts
Lauryn hill is a prophetess , nas is a prophet
Just from 94/95 source you see how the style cleaned. I was only 15 / 16 but 99 cats started shinning
I seen the raise of the Southern Hip-Hop/Rap dominance notice there's more South showcases compared to North NY showcases (1994/1995 & 1999 is a huge difference)
Dammm i was 9 at that time Miss That Era Wish I Can Go Back In Time
I was 9 too now I'm 33 🫢😳🤣🤣
Yal still youngingz 😂
@18:00 DMX 🥀
@37:50 it was at that moment we knew Lil Wayne messed up when they didn’t patent “bling bling”
BLING BLING BABY!!!
The difference between the 95 Source Awards that was held in the NYC & the 99 Source Awards that was held in LA; is that another coast respected everyone's different style. NYC one of the other hand disrespected everyone who was not from their neck of the woods. It's funny how time has changed during this moment.
Shouldn't you have said " on the other hand"? Lol😂...yea that is crazy not to mention the 95 ones were so low budget you couldn't even c it that well...wondering how many source awards in all they had an was any wit tupac in them?
@@PrettyNicky5095 stage is huge. The low budget one was 1994, the first source award where Pac was even there rapping his unreleased original song, Out On Bail. In 95' Pac was locked up, so he wasn't in there
Before cash money was cash money. Now cash money is cash money.
NYC didn't even respect each other. The five boroughs didn't get along either. Each was tryna show who was the livest/wildest borough. Even Nas said it himself. Every rapper from NYC had 30 ppl w them strapped.
Miss these days..... Damn. Somebody gotta bring these vibes back.
What a time to be alive, what a time to be a Hip Hop head, big ups to The Source
I would give anything to have access to “all” the source award shows. Other then Soul Train, there has not been another home grown award show or entertainment vehicle that was for us by us since “the source” Did anybody record them all?
How many were there total? Think I only saw three here on youtube an besides this one the others were low budget!😂😂
I must admit, P.Diddy had the crowd crunked...😂wit his "funni" self could tell back then too😂😂
😂😂😂😂
This Was A Wild One For Sure For Sure 😂😂😂😂
Puff really put on a show
@23:14 Nate Dog 🥀
Wow, I just watched the whole thing, that was good! 25 years ago, damn! I remember that. It’s a blur, but I remember! 😄
Can you upload the "Soul Train Awards" from March 27, 1999.
Lauryn was great 🔥
It would only have old school artists I believe

10:40 Tha Dogg Pound (Daz, Kurupt, and Soopafly) this was awkward, Daz and Soopfly was on Death Row Records cool with Suge Knight while Kurupt was on ANTRA and cool with Dr Dre

Puffy with the dancing again. The fruity guy wants to be in a boy band😂
AHHH GREAT MEMORIES!! DAMN!! 😢
Good ole days ☹❤
KOBE

Cujo from Goodie Mob came out there in Moses sandals. LOL😃
Puff like riding on the floor moving machine, to funny.🤣🤣🤣

Diddy is probably the only black celebrity that still goes to the black award shows.
Puffy always in the videos all on records all on at the award shows
The industry pumps through his veins

@@mrkilo-g8794haha😂😂😂I remember that sayn and who said it!
Puff ate that up. Those girls were BAAAD
Left eye was looking hot R.I.P to her
It's 2024 still watching the source awards
Surprised Janet Jackson even came to sumthn like this...she didn't seem too nervous tho
You could tell Snoop, Soopafly, Daz, Xzibit, Kurupt and a lot of the West coast emcees was extra crunk not only because they didn't get a very warm reception when the Source Awards was held in NY, but now it's in L.A. (their home turf), so not only are they turned up but they wish any East coast emcee would act up that night!
Yup
😂😂😂no wonder they were hyphy
That's a lie, west coast artists were beefing w each other that night in Pasadena. You know it's bad when E40 camp gets into a fight at an award show. An 40 water unproblematic. On top of DJ Quik camp getting into it w rival gang members who was there.
RIP to Left Eye Kobe DMX and Jam Master J
Rip Lisa left eye lopes😢 rip Kobe Bryant 😢

When Millie Jackson albums were played in my house, we had to leave the room like if they were playing, Reds Foxx, or Richard Pryor records.
Her mouth had no chill button and, I loved it. I believe Millie Jackson was the first female rapper. I love her.
