- I am always on the lookout for budget-entry vehicles for the RC community.
This Danchee Ridgerock (a sub-brand from Redcat) has been around, but I have always dismissed it as more of a toy....BOY WAS I WRONG!
This truck has really surprised me!
1) It is fully RTR for under $150!
2) VERY quiet
3) Surprisingly capable.

Take off the servo savers and put in the included lock-out horns for more sharp steering. Penspring mod can be considered too (as per sonoran scale studios)

I love my ridgerock! Metal links, wheel extensions, good crawler tires such as duratrax deep woods, some weights on the axles and a 3s shorty pack and it’s a very competitive crawler that will outperform trucks three times it’s price.

Did you ever do any electronics upgrades?
@@RoadsideRC no I haven’t. I planned on at least replacing the servos but never did. After watching a guy on TH-cam run it on 3s and 4s for long lengths of time and talking to him on fb I got a couple zee 3s shorty packs and was content with that. I know some people in the group have put tons of time and money into upgrading them but honestly I didn’t really get into crawling so it has mostly sat on the shelf while other rc’s got my interest. I will say it was the perfect crawler for me though. Something cheap that can still go out and hang with $400-500 crawlers while not breaking the bank since I rarely use it.

Awesome video Troy. Glad you have this on the channel. Had mine for a couple of years now. Still absolutely love it! Mine is still in stock trim. Even the tires. At some point I will look into doing upgrades, but it performs so well I often put those upgrades on the back burner. Doing all those things you said though will greatly improve it. Those chassis extenders you had on your channel once would work really well at dropping this down a bit. Oven seeen some people “starfish” the foams to make the tires more compliant and improve contact. With this right mods this can hang with machines 3-4x it’s price! So glad you gave it a chance! Take off the lower spring perches and it will sit low with links almost level, did it to mine (as per exocaged rc). I also put shocks it higest hole in shock towers. Only pay-mod i did was losi rock claw tires on same wheels. Huggeee improvement!

There is a cult following of these Danchee Riderocks at my local crawler course. I've seen them decked out with different bodies, tires motors doing really well.
I think they might be a hidden gem!
I just seen two of these at the RV park here in Cortez Colorado. Yes this park has a RC track on site. Two of the guests staying here have the Ridge Rock. I’ve got Axial Deadbolt and Base Camp but for the money these things are great. Tires are the week spot but the rear steering and MOA makes these rigs unstoppable. Very cool units.

The Ridge Rock was my first crawler over 2 yrs ago and it is still one of my favorites great rig mine is still running strong stock👍

Long-term, something like a Gen8, TRX4 Sport, ECTO would be better (I think), but this certainly fun.

Haha I was working on mine when this came up in my feed I knew they were watching me lol I love mine made some steel links covered the trailing arms with some aluminum I cut up running on proline Ibex use it all the time on 2s its very impressive for the price

I use only 3s in my danchee and it does just fine.. And a huge differance in power

is funny, the music make the rig so epic, oh the best crawler, they are some mod need to be done, tires and wheels, lower the center gravity
There are ALWAYS mods to be done. :) Doesn't matter if it is a $100 truck or a $1000 truck.
That is just part of the hobby - always thinking about how to make it better.
It looks pretty good. Seems like once you got it on your back yard course it needed either better tires or softer foam.... or both. It's really hard to complain on about that on a $100 crawler though.

Yes the stock tires are horrible. Way too hard. A set of good tires made all the difference in the world on mine.
Tires, servos, shocks and sometimes the other electronics, after those upgrades would you say it's still budget friendly? A lot of times people will see us crawling with our trucks/buggies whatever that are already upgraded and watch them perform much better than stock, bye the rtr thinking it will do as good as our moded ones only to be disappointed. Is that something you keep in mind? Did it still make it worth the purchase? Only curious 😉. Nice and informative video as usual, cheers!
Right here - just how good it performs stock. That is what this video is all about.
But, future videos will certainly show what upgrades can do for it. Folks can then see the difference.
When new folks encounter us, we need to be honest and recommend a vehicle based on their budget and needs.
Absolutely it's still budget friendly. Even when completely new to the crawling hobby, 90 percent of us will want to improve capabilities and make the rig our own. You could put a set of 2.2 beadlocks and tires and two 25kg servos off Amazon and would be around $210. Still couldn't buy a decent RTR anywhere near that price. These things are very, very capable and underrated. I enjoy my ridgerock more than I do my Vanquish vs4-10 pro!
I was looking into getting a ridgerock. Still wouldn't mind trying one out
they seem really good for the $$$.

I've had one of these for a while, the stock tires suck but once you add tires with some grip the clod stall is so bad its practically unusable.
I'll be curious about this.
What causes it?
@@RoadsideRC It's common on moa rigs. They don't or can't supply more power to the motor that has the bulk of the load. Basically like an open differential.

Yes! I literally have 4 budget gyros on my workbench right now..
Unfortunately, the performance has not been great yet.

It's worth it in 2024? How is the aftermarket support?
If you can swing the extra money to get you to $300-400, there are MUCH better vehicles to buy.
Take the foams out and you will get loads more grip

@@RoadsideRC seen loads of people with theses take the foams out and find they don't have to buy new tyres,also if you just remove the spring cups it lowers it 10mm so it don't stand so high

Their only downfall is the stock tires

quite good on test the bendy suspension seemed its plus point tyre grip seemed poor I know you already have upgrades in mind
