I own the Vox. Here’s a real problem. If you play a bass where the input jack is on the bottom or the bass, you have to be super careful if you like to sit on a couch or recliner and just jam. The jack for the amp will break off in the bass if you put a lot of pressure on it. Cheap plastic housing around the input jack on the amp won’t hold up. Your ok if you have an input jack on top of the bass like a strat style instrument.
My Bass strap broke, and I tried to catch my Bass before it hit the floor. I saved the body of my Bass from hitting the floor, but the amp hit the floor and broke off. 😡😡😡
@@BassGodsoh thank goodness ur bass is fine. My….chest physically clenched as I was reading ur comment. It’s like the feeling u get when suddenly misstep but don’t realize it and ur foot just slams into the ground
I really appreciate and respect the effort you put in to this video: cut scenes, cards, your own sound effects, really solid analysis and just overall a really great job. I hope you keep this channel up and it grows because I think this video deserves the 10,000 views you mention. Thanks for this it really helped me make a purchase decision.
Thank you! For the Vox, one pair of AAA batteries lasts a LONG time, so I see having an onboard rechargeable battery (Donner) as a negative. A huge benefit of the Vox is the auxiliary INput jack, so I can play tracks (or Internet stuff) from my cell phone into it and play along. That is fabulous, and sounds so much better than the aux inputs of a couple regular amps I have. I agree that the Vox sound is so good, I play through it into phones in preference to turning on an amp. I have only used the green/ high gain mode because the others are underpowered, in my opinion. I agree that green for "high" and red for "low" goes against commonplace logic. The green setting's tone is clear, so "high gain" does not mean distorted. I have used one many many times until finally the plug connection began to fail. A couple years of use. Can be found for under $40 in 11/11/22.
After a long hiatus from playing ( family illnesses mostly) I'm back to playing. And I agree that having one of these is a must nowadays. Learning towards the Blackstar myself. Like you I have played and will continue to play Rock and Blues. The various tones are what swayed my decision. As for your review I found that you did an excellent job. Keep up the good work!
That's why I got the Donner. I'm not great at the bass (I suck), so I figured this will help motivate me to play more. If no one can hear me jamming out, then I won't have to be embarrassed lol
Great comparison. I wish more creators of these types of videos were up to your standard. You just raised the bar!!! And with that I trust that the Blackstar is for me!
Awesome job just started playing bass I'm going to start out with the voxx and appreciate your work I didn't even know anything about this product it will surely help with my neighbors, lol thanks keep up the good work.
Interested in your take on the Fender Mustang Micro and the Nux. From what I’ve seen online, the Nux has a lot of customization, but it’s also a lot more work. The Fender is really interesting from an ease of use standpoint, and Fender’s digital modeling is pretty good and Bluetooth audio in is nice, but their effects are of course skewed toward guitar. I’ve had the Vox one for years, and I agree with your take on the tone. I’m curious about the Blackstar now though, for the heavier tone options.
Great review. The vox/blackstar rotating jack was designed for versatility on instruments that have a jack on the top of the instrument. Where a right angle only won't work.
My personal experience with Donner is donner sucks straight up across all know products pedals, cables , pedal boards just stay away from them at all cost . But $25 I’m willing to get disappointed again, I only know one way to learn my lesson and it’s the hard way
Thanks for the great review Maybe To have something more you could have made some real sound test, sometime listening to a sound is more effective than hear the description of a sound
I use my Zoom A1X Four as headphone practising amp. Easy to use, not so tiny, looper, effects programmable ... Can use it for all instruments incl. eBass, Ukulele, ac. Guitar ...
Hi Super work man. Have you tested the NuX Mighty Plug Headphone Amp product ? If not could you do so and compare it with the vox, Blackstar, and donner ? Thanks in advance.
I've gone through 2 VOX bass headphone amplifiers and broke both. Straight up both times my fault but feel $50 is too much for these plastic little pieces of gear. It definitely felt fragile. Probably gonna just try the Donner
Thanks. Great videos. Can anyone clarify if the Blackstar/Vox can be powered using Rechargable AAA batteries? Just checking as I know some things cannot use rechargables. Would seem a pain having to constantly buy regular ones.
Just watched the video and I thought you did a great job of demonstrating each plug in headphone amp. After careful consideration I have to agree with you that the blackstar is the best one, I play hard rock and metal bass. Thanks for the video
Thank you for an extremely comprehensive review!!! Even though the sound quality is important, I would probably choose the Donner due to having a rechargeable battery. You're money on the front end and over the life of the unit!
Hey dude, awesome channel subbed to you! Was wondering if you could recommend a relatively budget set of headphones to go with these? Looking to pick one up but not sure what kind of headphones to pair it with, Thanks!
The donner battery is a weird thing, if you use it for long periods it runs out quicker, but i used it to practice half an hour every night for like a month and didnt ran out of battery, so, probably the battery warms up and fails after longer periods
"Getting started" is what any music teacher will tell you is the most important thing. The Donner is the only one that comes with a cable, no fuss to learn/use it, rechargeable batteries, and at half the price. HELLO KNOCK KNOCK; how could these features be so trivial ! The Donner is the best deal in town. It should have, at the very least, scored well into the 40s !
Appreciate the thorough breakdown of each. Being constructive. You have a nice and clean unique presentation style. Some of that is your pace. I feel your pace is too slow though. Keep going. I’m tuned in. :-)
I got the Vox. I am very pleased with the sound but I wish I could find an owner's manual with actual directions. I know I am the exception but I like reading real owner's manuals (you usually can learn some useful details that you might otherwise miss)
Hello. I have Vox amplug 2 bass. And it is much quieter than its predecessor amplug 1. I overclock it to full and it's still quiet. Please tell me, does Blackstar have the same output signal level?
I've got the Vox amplug2 for guitar and the settings drove me crazy, trying to read the words on the device was difficult and it I had to keep a cheat sheet nearby with all the button press combos. Hold the power down and click a different button down twice, etc. Didn't care for it, unfortunately.
Any thoughts on how these compare to the "Valetron Rushead Max Bass"? I think they may have previously only had a guitar version, but there's a bass-specific one out now.
Not aware of Blackstar and Donner I bought the Vox machine at £45 including shipping. It's still to arrive, but will do in the next day or two. I'm looking forward to the first plug in and play. Excellent video and thanks for the cool intel report.
Good video! Very informative. I purchased the Donner originally, since it was sooooo cheap. But I sent it back, and bought the Blackstar. I like it. I like the second, Ampeg SVT-like sound the most on the Blackstar - the one with the orange status light.
Those 3.4mm jake didn't come inside VOX but company gave me extra pack include tuner ,note stand ,bass capo ,pactrum and small towel.... Depending on were you buy
@@NikiDorian as far as I'm aware it's a sealed unit you would have to break it to open it, and it'll probably be virtually impossible to find a replacement for it, save yourself the hassle get one with replaceable batteries.
@@TheYjmfan I haven't seen the Donner but I've been inside a few Vox models ( usually to repair broken jacks ), and they are only "sealed" with a regular philips screw. The battery in the Donner is a LIpo. Finding a replacement is as easy as typing "LIPO xxXXxx" into google. The "X"s are the dimensions of the battery in millimetres which are already printed on it. Lipos can be recharged up to 500 times, the donner lasts 5 h on a single charge. 5 x 500 = 2500 hours of use. The Vox is rated at 15 hour per 2 non rechargeable batteries ( which is what people use ). To get 2500 hours of use out of the Vox you'll need over 320 AAA batteries. With rechargeable AAAs in the Vox you get less playtime per charge and less charge cycles before they die than a lipo, plus you need an external charger for them. So if you are only concerned with the batteries then get the Donner, it will cost you 20 bucks less upfront, and over 100 bucks less in the long run. :)
Hello, I know it might sound dumb but I ask my mum wether I could get a bass or not but she said no because I might get electrocuted. So, I did research, and it says you would only get electrocuted unless there is smth wrong with the wire or the amp. I've been wondering if any of these have the risk of electrocuting you?
Hey, I ve a question.. I ve these "Beyerdynamic DT-770 PRO 80 Ohm" and I want to have more bass and a higher volume... do you know a non expensive way to do this? / do you recommend a good mobile amplifier?
I actually dislike those inbuilt rechargeable batteries. They will eventually wear out and you’ll have to throw the device away. AAA batteries can be replaced. If you’re worried about the waste, there are rechargeable AAA batteries that you can buy.
Which one would you choose? As I said I'll be uploading individual videos of each amp with some more sound samples in the next couple of weeks if you still can't decide

Went with the Vox over the Blackstar b/c I don't see myself playing bass with a lot of distortion. Your video helped me decide. Thanks!
I have the guitar version. I was blown away how good it is. Especially the reverb, chorus, and delay on the lowest preset. Worth every penny.
